In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Ironclad. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. Later on, he explains his decision for each card he chooses and why it's important to the build. Towards the end, he gears up for an epic Heart fight you don't want to miss. I use a few mods for Slay the Spire. All of them are Quality-of-Life improvements and do not have any effect on the gameplay. Here are all of the mods I have active:
Slay the Relics Exporter, used for the live stream: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
Relic Stats, to keep track of how many times the relic effects happened: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
UI Sliders, to reposition the Discard and Exhaust piles, so that they are not hidden behind the camera: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
Run History Plus, giving us more info in the Run Summary screen about the run: steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...
Map Marks, for path highlighting - here, typically, Green means an easy, intended path, and Orange or Red means a harder path that I might take if I get good rewards: github.com/casey-c/mapmarks

I think the main lesson I learned from the Ironclad runs of your channel is exhaust cards is op, not a detriment ^^ I've seen True grit as a bad defense, because I thought the exhaust one was a cost, while it's a perk XD

Oh yeah, same with me but with corruption, this helped me realize that running out of skills doesn’t matter if the enemy is dead/within lethal range by then, and that it combos fantasticly with barricade despite both cards promoting vastly different play styles

My ironclad a18 heart kill was essentially this deck, loved it as it was coming together. Also my a18 heart kill with watcher also had a barricade feature to solve her blockening lol barricade opz

"Let's get a non-infinite combo", then picks Ironclad. Yes, I think you're fairly likely to succeed at not being infinite! :P

Well its really easy to go infinite on ironclad lol all you need is double drop kick or double pommel strike with sundial

@@NixViche At the risk of belaboring the point, no other class depends on specific relics in order to set up an infinite combo! The usual rule is: Defect and Watcher go infinite; Ironclad goes exponential. (Silent is also infinite, but Catalyst technically lets her do both. I once got 71,050 stacks of poison on the Heart.)

@@Scarhwk yeah as stated, double dropkick can go infinite, you literally just need double dropkick + bash and card removals. Its one of the easiest ways to do your minimalist achievement run :)

@@Scarhwk an upgraded havoc and reckless charge + a dark embrace active is a pretty simple infinite that works pretty well. I usually try to build towards that and if it doesn't work there's a fuckton of infinites that can become possible with a few relics while you're building towards that specific goal. Ironclad may not have the most possible infinites, but I feel like he has the easiest time setting them up.

My favorite technique in any game is to turtle up behind a wall of defense and let the enemy uselessly bash against it, so barricade builds are by far my favorite.

I always have trouble with the Ancient Writing. Unless I already have a super small deck and I'm pushing to get it even lower, I have a hard time justifying one remove for all those upgrades. In my eyes, an upgrade to all strike/defends is potentially an additional +15 damage and block each time you cycle your deck. A remove would have to somehow compensate for that kind of total benefit. Hard to imagine unless you're working on a tiny infinite, but perhaps you could offer your own perspective since you took the remove.

He has done this on a few runs now. I'm like you - on my runs it's hard to justify one remove vs multiple upgrades. In this case I think it's because his deck didn't need the upside of upgraded starter cards, there already was a sustainable source of block and damage, but what was needed was to get to the setup quicker, hence the remove outweighed the upgrades. Keen to hear Baalor's views though.

I think he understood that his deck was capable of doing 999 damage and it was better to make his deck small so he could get to that number faster. Keep in mind, even if you have the upgraded strikes and defends, your probably not going to be using them. I’m to lazy but I’m guessing by act 3, he didn’t use a single strike or defend for the rest of the run

Strikes and Defends are ultimately so underpowered that it's usually quite attractive to remove them.
