Elvis Presley's "IF I CAN DREAM" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q5Ogg8KVqMvSenU.htmlsi=8lxL-UbDFgk7A_ycx From his 68 Comeback Special, this was Elvis's Heartfelt and Powerful Tribute to Dr Martin Luther King Jr, after his Assasination in Memphis Tennessee where Elvis Lived. It is Based on the message of MLK's "I Have A Dream" Speech, and was written for him with this in mind. It also honored the Memory of Robert F Kennedy, who was also Assasinated during the same time period. This was a Turbulent Time in America, 🇺🇸 with the Civil Rights Movement, Protests and Riots against Vietnam War and it seemed as if the Country was being torn apart and Elvis wanted to bring a Message of Hope and Unity to the Nation. Elvis ‘s drummer Ronnie Tutt was amazing. He kept his eyes on Elvis and kept up with his moves. There is a rehearsal footage in wish you can see Elvis moves and Ronnie responding with the drums. It is so spontaneous that his conductor Joe Guercio once said working with Elvis is like chasing marbles down a flight of stairs. Elvis responded to this by filling Joe’s dressing room with marbles. Elvis liked playing practical jokes for fun.

The orginal Vegas Residency, he did two shows a night , and added a matinee on Sundays, so he has fun changing up songs, plus assembled a 13 piece band, with 8 member chior, which at that time was rare! His live shows are second to none, plus he has to navigate the mic chord, 40 years before wireless..😂

He was in the Army. A woman handed her a note. Probably with her name and number. He gives his all on every song and makes you feel it. If you play more songs, get the live videos to see his performances. HINT: Elvis was a jokester, so you can't take your eyes off the screen or you'll definitely miss something. Here's a few videos: "In The Ghetto (Las Vegas 1970) 4K ," "Suspicious Minds (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973) ," and "An American Trilogy (Aloha From Hawaii, Live in Honolulu, 1973)". Short Documentary videos: "Elvis and the Black Community" Parts 1 and 2. Another thing that I admired about Elvis is that he wasn't ashamed or embarrassed to cry, which he does on a few songs. Loved your reactions! LIKED, COMMENTED & SUBSCRIBED.

he was not reading lyrics that was a note from some woman who stuffed it in his belt, women tried to get to him everywhere he went. but all kidding aside he loved to screw around on stage. He was a serious promoter of civil rights, see his tribute to MLK jr. from his 68 comeback special "If I Can Dream". Also his beautiful song 'In the Ghetto" you know he grew up in the poor black neighborhood in Mississippi. He helped promote black artists in the 50's when white stations would not play black singers till he changed that. Elvis had a 23 year career. Died of heart failure at 42, and sang every thing from gospel to opera. He had a 3 octave range. Another great to hear is his performance in Vegas 1970 "Walk a Mile in My Shoes". Thanks I appreciate you.

@jayeginn5963 Your post is true Elvis' history. I did not know about his Grandfather. One of his biggest influences was the Black Baptist Churches he attended while young. You can see the influence in his performances such as If I Could Dream. BabantheKidd, I enjoyed your reactions. The moves he does have been part of him since he was a kid. Later, Martial Arts was one of his favorite hobbies. But, it's the music that was in his entire body and soul. He played guitar, piano and drums, but it's the drums that provide the electricity in him. In the video Elvis Presley and the Black Community, his former pastor of the Black Baptist Church where Elvis worshipped and sang, tells about his energy as a kid. The live Las Vegas video of 1973 Suspicious Minds shows what it was like to work with him. He loved to joke around, loved singing, his band and singers, his fans and singing Gospel tunes.

He had his own team with uniforms and cheerleaders. You should look up the ESPN Elvis football video. It is really good! Yes, more Elvis, please. Nobody could entertain like this man. Elvis is the King because he dominated overwhelmed in every record and set large arena and Stadium records that stood until finally these venues were torn down to rebuild new ones. He outsold every performer, covered other performers songs and outsold theres. He had 18+ #1 hits to 1 for Chuck Berry. He is the King because like King LeBron and Jordan had also "more rings".

If you haven't reacted to Elvis singing " If I Can Dream" during his TV Special in 1968 you should def do that one. Also do "In the Ghetto" live in concert 1970. Mac Davis wrote the song and asked Sammy Davis Jr to record it, but Sammy told him he felt he couldn't do the song justice because he did not grow up in those conditions, but, he said he knew someone who did, Elvis Presley. Elvis recorded the song. I've been an Elvis fan since i was 12 years old and I'm turning 77 in a few weeks. I still listen to him every day.

Thanks for your reaction. Elvis was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, in a 2 room shack of a house his dad built with money he borrowed from his boss. That's how dirt poor they were. He was one half of identical twins; the other boy - Jesse Garon - was stillborn. They were so poor, that Jesse Garon was buried in a shoebox in an unmarked grave. At Graceland they have a plaque with his name on it in his memory. Elvis always got along with the black community and learned a lot about music from his friends of color. Also, according to the one drop rule, Elvis would not be considered white, since he has Cherokee ancestors on both the Smith (his mother) and the Presley (his father) sides of the family. His paternal grandfather, Jesse Dunning Presley, was not happy that his two sons, Elvis' father Vernon and his brother Vester, married two sisters, Gladys and Clettes who were known to have Cherokee blood in their family tree. J.D. Presley was quite the racist a-hole, often drunk and a philandering husband to Minnie Mae (they were actually separated long before they finally divorced in 1954) who was always competing with his sons Vester and Vernon and who was known to abuse his kids when drunk. J.D. was was publicly against race mixing and was in denial about the Cherokee blood in his own family tree. It was more publicly known that the Smith family had Native blood in their family tree, so when both his sons fell for 2 Smith sisters and Vernon, on top of that, was still a minor at 17 when he eloped with Gladys who was 4 years older than him, Jesse was totally pissed off. As a child, Elvis already had many friends in the black community at the time his family was one of 4 "white" families that lived in the predominantly black neighborhood The Hill, just across from Shake Rag. His childhood friend Sam Bell said that some of the (black) kids in that neighborhood had lighter skin than Elvis (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gth2dtx_sty-h58.html). One of Elvis' bodyguards once said that he thought it was a miracle Elvis got into Humes High School in Memphis, because it was "lily white". Elvis wanted to be more open about his Native ancestry, but his manager "colonel" Tom Parker (real name Andreas van Kuijk) was against it because he was afraid it might cost Elvis fans (and himself money). They did have Elvis play characters in his movies though where he had Native American blood (Flaming Star, G.I. Blues, Stay Away Joe). Once Elvis had his own (apprentice) job learning to be an electrician, he saved up his money and bought his clothes in the same style that many of his friends of color wore. He was called a (forgive me, just stating facts here) "n-lover" and got beaten up several times too. Later, when he was an established star, he would not perform at places where the members of color of his back-up band/orchestra weren't allowed.

Hey guys thank you for reacting to Elvis!!! I hope you get the 100 likes so you can delve more into Elvis, His Gospel was amazing... He did it all.. You know the chiccky chiccky bom bom you were singing his backing singers (The Ladies) were called the Sweet Inspirations, when Elvis went to Vegas in I believe 1969 Whitney Houstons mum, Cissy was one of his back up singers in that group. He hand picked his band, he had a full orchestra and Gospel Singers The Stamps Quartet, The Bass singer Elvis used to sneak in to see his shows when he was a kid, and he told JD one day you will sing for me and he lived up to that . There are many stories about Elvis, and memories they all shared and still do. A threatened to walk out of Vegas after some higher upper made a bad comment about those girl singers, they didnt want them there because of the colour of their skin, Elvis said No Way, if they are not here I am not here... He was an amazing man..

Love your reaction. I can tell you were surprised to see Elvis in motion. During the Los Vegas years he was in his prime. He incorporated karate moves and he was so spontaneous that his musicians and back up singers watched him closely and just followed his lead. You have a long list already. I suggest you start at the beginning with his first TV appearances. From his movie career check out love me tender Los Vegas 1971 version, Crawfish the beginning clip from his fourth movie King Creole, Jailhouse Rock and can’t help falling in love with you. Elvis had a Country music album with some very good songs, my favorite Just Pretend..

To see his rise to stardom his performances on Ed Sullivan , the third performance censored , filmed from his waist up . Also Elvis and The Black Community if you want to know what shaped Elvis , how he opened the door for Black artists on mainstream radio and how he felt about racial equality . Also Elvis the King of generosity he gave most of his money away to charities and individuals

So what was Elvis' actual contribution to music? It was specifically love, timing, environment and distribution. Ok so Rock music is primarily made up of several strains of Country music (all invented by white artists), Gospel (Christian music was originally invented by Roman choirs before the birth of Christ. ) and the Blues (invented by black artists). Lets add to that the legendary song writers (such as Leiber and Stoller). Then the instruments which were made in Italy, Germany, Africa, China and the Middle East among others. That is where rock and roll sprang from. Rock is NOT BLACK MUSIC. It is YOUNG PEOPLE MUSIC. It was created by YOUNG PEOPLE for YOUNG PEOPLE in an era of YOUTH REVOLUTION. Rock was the first music genre of the modern age that was CREATED FOR AN AGE GROUP and NOT A RACE of people. Elvis is the only musician ever to be inducted into the Gospel, Blues, Country and Rock & Roll Halls of Fame. Elvis was different, and his perspective was different than most white people of his day, especially among other whites in the South. Elvis grew up in the poorest parts of the South during the Great Depression and Segregation. And he understood the very lowest depths of poverty. Only 4 white families on his block, he lived and played with black children while living in a 1 room shotgun shack with NO running WATER and NO ELECTRICITY. His father built the home with a borrowed $150, then lost it because they couldn't afford to pay it back. How poor was Elvis? The Presleys were so poor that they couldn't afford a coffin when Elvis' twin brother Jesse Garon Presley was born stillborn, so Jesse had to be buried in a shoebox. Elvis was uniquely born at a time and place, Tupelo (SHAKERAG) AND Memphis (BEALE STREET) when so much new music and dance were happening. And So MUCH DIVISION and HATE if you were poor and/or black. Elvis paid royalties to black songwriters THAT ASKED ELVIS to sing and re-arrange their song and vice versa. Elvis created A WHOLE NEW STYLE AND SOUND that was VERY CREATIVE.... by merging GOSPEL, R&B, Pop music, Rockabilly and Country. Rock was a MERGING OF CULTURES and GENRES. Every young person in the 50s was yearning for a new sound and Elvis' style was a FIRST, and he merged everything together the BEST for the young people. Elvis sang, arranged, produced, danced, acted, and had a God crafted voice that was entirely UNIQUE and sought after. Elvis was already honing his voice and skills in the 1940s in the church scene long before Little Richard or Chuck Berry ever cut a single record. Elvis was trained by black musicians in black churches and white musicians in white churches in the 1940s. Rev W Herbert Brewster of the East Trigg Baptist Church asked Elvis to join in 1948 when he was 13, after Elvis and his family moved to Memphis. They were jamming before and during the legendary black musicians got heard. He was able to merge music genres and black and white culture better than anyone and created the sound and stage performance of Rock and Roll. AND as soon as ELVIS started to make money -- THEY ALL MADE MONEY! Little Richard talked about this: "He sung my Tootie Fruti & by him singing it, made it bigger & made ME bigger" And then he said: “I thank God for Elvis Presley. I thank the Lord for sending Elvis to open the door so I could walk down the road...”- Little Richard Elvis WAS the biggest part of the change from the old style of music to Rock and Roll. He absolutely was an ACTUAL PIONEER of the modern sounds and stage presentations that we know today. He co-invented Rock and Roll with Little Richard and Fats Domino and Chuck Berry and others. He WAS a pioneer. Its not culture appropriation / culture vulture when you are a pioneer of a sound. Elvis never stole a song. He credited everyone, ensuring all songwriters were listed next to every song on each album. No exceptions. Elvis was friends with all the legends.. B.B. King, Otis Blackwell, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Roy Hamilton and many more. You can't STEAL "COOL" You cant steal "RHYTHM". You cant steal "SOUL". You can't STEAL "HOW TO DANCE". You can't steal "HOW TO SAAANG". You either HAVE THESE SKILLS, or you do NOT. ELVIS THE ARRANGER: Elvis was ABLE TO MERGE MUSIC AND CULTURE better than any one else alive at the time. Elvis didn't only help the black community of artists, that man tore down walls of racism for everyone. He stood up and did it a man's way. Without concern for his own health and safety, his career, or his quality of life. This gets talked about by the great, late Reverend himself. Elvis and the Black Community. A great collaboration of interviews by legends and historic figures in the black community discussing Elvis. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rspho7uolqrRo3U.html&t=

Subbed for Elvis. ❤ That letter Elvis pulled out from his belt. Before this performance, he was singing Sweet Caroline, and someone slipped a note into his belt, and he forgot he had it there, so when he was adjusting his belt during this performance, the note slipped out, so he quickly read it and then handed it to Charlie. Thank you for bringing Elvis onto your channel. You have just scraped the surface and let me tell you, this Elvis journey will only get better and better. Elvis fans are fiercely loyal to him, and as soon as they catch wind that you are reacting to him, your subs will just go up and up. Please can you react to "If I Can Dream" next. The one with him wearing the white suit. I have linked it below. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q5Ogg8KVqMvSenU.htmlsi=nVWHyKzzZgKsKuuM You will discover through your Elvis journey that he wasn't just about the music and his incredible voice, but he was also kind, generous, humble and he had so much love to give to all people, no matter their background, their age, their sex, their religion or the color of their skin. He loved everyone and treated everyone with love and respect. He was one of the most charitable people to ever live. Giving away more than 200 Cadillacs, as well as houses, jewelry and money to people, even complete strangers. There are far too many misconceptions about Elvis. Rumors that have been debunked many times over through the years, but there are still those who believe the rumors. I am subscribed to two channels. "Elvis Fans Matter" which is Billy Smith's channel, and his wife Jo. Billy Smith is Elvis' first cousin and he spent almost every waking hour with Elvis, living at Graceland with him. On his channel he answers fan questions and tells stories about his time living with Elvis. The other channel is "Memphis Mafia Kid", which is Danny Smith's channel. He is the son of Billy and Jo Smith, which makes him Elvis' second cousin. He also answers fan questions and tells stories about his first 16 years of life, living at Graceland with Elvis. Elvis passed when Danny was 16. The more stories you hear directly from people who were there, the more love and respect you have for Elvis. They don't just tell the good stories, they also tell the hard ones, the sad ones, and the ones that show that Elvis was just a human being with his own faults, as we all have. But throughout everything, Elvis was, and has always been a beautiful person with so much love to give. Please continue on your Elvis journey and I would be happy to send you more links if you would like them. You need to be careful which performances to react to because there are a lot of Elvis performances that have been tampered with, so they aren't the original live performances. I have links to all the original live performances. I also have links to short documentaries like Elvis and the Black Community, The King of Kindness, and A Generous Heart, as well as links to interviews where you can see how humble, polite, well spoken, thoughtful, and respectful he is. Just let me know if you would like some links, and I would be more than happy to send them to you. ❤

When Elvis was reading that piece of paper it was a song request. At Elvis shows people would write the request and all request would go into a fish bowl before the show began. On stage Elvis would randomly pick one and do that song.
