Last Ride of NS DM '90 passes a railway bridge in Veendam.
den abschied fahrt der Nederlandse Spoorwegen Reizigers DM '90 uberqueert eines Bahnbrücke der Stadskanaal Rail, danach führte die fahrt züruck nach Zwolle über die bahnstrecken Veendam Groningen und Groningen-Zwolle
de afscheidsrit stopt voor de draaibrug (toeterd veel) en de trein stopt zodat de draaibrug dicht kan worden gedraaid en de HBKI overweg aan kan worden gezet waarna hij toeterend naar museumstation Veendam vertrekt waar een korte stop plaatsvond.

For anyone saying that a normal bridge would be much better, this bridge is really old, and got built in the steam age. Normally there are no modern trains passing through there, only steam trains!

Well this is quite unique... never seen a driver stop the train & manually align the bridge to cross it. The entire bridge rotates just by a lever... quite ingenious

Why is the bridge manual? Well this railway is currently owned by the stichting stadskanaal rail (star) that mainly run this line (stadskanaal-veendam) with steam train on certain days and the bridge is normally open but closed during run days

There was a similar bridge that was originally built by a predecessor of the Pennsylvania Railroad over the Rehoboth & Lewes Canal, which after 1982, came under the operations of the former Delaware Coast Line Railroad. Unfortunately, settlement in the canal forced the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) to close the bridge in 2016.

De DM90 samen met de mat 64 ( of 54 weet niet zeker ) reed een lange tijd geleden op de roermond/nijmegen sprinterlijn helaas niet veel van meegekregen omdat ik nog vrij jong was toen. Ben meer opgegroeid met de veolia en arriva Stadler treinen, zelf vind ik het jammer dit zijn en blijven mooie treinen om naar te kijken. Maar goed dat we het spoorwegmuseum hebben.

@@BaboSorany oh dat wist ik niet, ik kwam er recent achter dat vlakbij Venlo/Blerick er recent DM90 stellen zijn neergezet op een vrij nieuw rancheerterein. Zag het laatst zelf toen ik met de IC naar Schiphol Airport erlang kwam :)

It runs over a small canal. I know this from personal experience since I always used that street to go to school xD. That turn bridge have been there for decades now.

It's not a waste of time if the route cuts the journey time. The turntable helps in sharing the crossing with vehicular traffic. Not worth building a bridge if train traffic frequency is low.The exercise doesn't take more than a few minutes.

In a small but developed country like Holland a modern train depends on something so archaic to go on. If it were in India it would be acceptable but in the Netherlands it would not. Greetings from Düsseldorf.

We used to help turnaround a train engine as kids. It was an amazing way to teach the low coefficient of friction of steel on steel. I have never seen a bridge being routed in this way in India. Indian railways are an important source of freight movement, and are more modern than what people expect.

Actualmente, este tramo y puente pertenece a un ferrocarril turístico operado sólo por locomotoras de vapor. En 2024 o 2025, el tramo será reactivado como parte de la red de trenes regionales. Hay varios puentes de este tipo en Holanda, pero en general se cierran automáticamente y no hay que esperar como en este vídeo.
