Tokyo Dome was a huge goal and their peak on their career. 55k fans on each 2 nights in a row. This song like i told you before got more meaning at Legend 1997 SuMetal 16 Birthday and is even more shocking. In this case you get all of them crucified unlike the Legend 1997. Sad that you previously Akatsuki Unfinished Version was blocked or took it down, if anything helps there's a widescreen version out there with no blocked issues if you want to try upload that again. And you got it right this song is about them introducing themselves with a play of words desu/death. Back then when doing promotional and TV interviews they introduced themselves saying this with a wink at the end, "SuMetal desu" means "I'm SuMetal" but they're trying to say their names with "death" at the end, and to say it correctly they were taught to bite their tongue a little bit to pronounce the "th" sound correctly, you can even find a compilation of this kawaii clips 😜 This usually is an opener song, like in this 2nd Black Night, and it works as a warm up exercises to begin with those shows, but like i told you during Legend 1997 was an ender. Another suggestions for next reaction: "Catch Me If You Can" with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014 (GuilhermeCait channel got a safe one to react), and "Onedari Daisakusen" live at Legend 1997 or since you found BMRR you can pick a 2015 version that is around there. Love your dance breakdown once again and please keep enjoying BM songs. 🦊🤘🔥

And another great reaction, thanks! "BABYMETAL Death" was usually used as a show opener, like this time at their second show at the Tokyo Dome (Black Night). And yes, they are basically introducing themselves (literally). And this is a really good version mainly because of the Tokyo Dome stage setup. Arguably their craziest ever. We usually suggest the "Legend 1997" version which matches with your previous reaction... which I assume got blocked. But just because the theatricals and its meaning in the context of that show (which is important to explain that part of their history) Well, since you have already done the "unfinished" version of "Akatsuki" it's fair for you to check out the regular version (I'll try to link it in a reply). Until next time!

It literally is the coolest concert ever. I've toured the world, seen 1000s of sets, and originally saw Babymetal as a favor to a friend. But they opened with this song, came out spelling out their name, and by the end of this song i was memorized. It's the best open i can think of and it fucking rules.

Christianity is really rare in Japan. Christian symbols are often used in early BABYMETAL without any real connection to Christianity. They stopped using as much of this imagery as they went more international. Originally the crucifixion motif was used only with Su and represented her death and rebirth as a metal goddess.
@rickwagner-
@rickwagner- 2 жыл бұрын
The first Su-metal crucifixion was at 'LEGEND D' (December 20th, 2012), a concert that incorporated many themes from Neon Genesis Evangelion, including the cross motif.

While it's true that they very rarely (if ever?) used crosses as props in overseas shows, I would note that they brought back crosses for the 2021 Budokan shows!

Its their intro song because it’s a pun: in Japanese, “BabyMetal Death” is pronounced, “be-bi-me-ta-ru-de-su,” which is also how you say, “We are BabyMetal,” in Japanese.
@Kmudaify
@Kmudaify 2 жыл бұрын
This is how Babymetal used to open their shows. The lyrics are simple, it's just them introducing themselves "Su-metal Desu" basically means "Su-metal is here". So it's "Su-metal is here, Yuimetal is here, Moametal is here, Babymetal is here". "Death" is a play on words. The Japanese pronunciation of "Death" sounds like the same pronunciation of "Desu". The "u" is silent, so it's Des.... which is how Japanese pronounce the "th" in death, as a "s". You'll have a lot of people wanting you to have reacted to Babymetal Death at Legend 1997 but I would like to thank you for choosing this version of the song as it's a better representation of how this song is normally used... and everyone and their brother has reacted to the Legend 1997 version.

Love your reactions, very detailed. 9:31 nope, it's not her. 10:43 what is great at smaller shows you can see the girls just having fun with these kinds of moments. 16:08 that's exactly what is going on: it's all the most demanding moves from the early songs combined in one choreography as the first song of the set. And they did that all the time, they said: it's kind of like a warming up song. And it also makes sense how it became the first song on the first album and how it's regularly used as the first song: it's an introduction.

There's a site u can go on to watch most of their concerts. It's a Japanese site so unless u speak Japanese just press play and enjoy. I get goosebumps sometimes when I hear certain songs. I think the heaviest songs they got are Megitsune, Distortion, Karate, Headbanger, n Babymetal Death. I go without listening to Papaya, Elevator Girl, Oh Majina, N get Su solo's bcuz I just don't care for them. I would say most of their songs I like. Not a metal head but BM has my vote

Your previous pronunciation of Yui was correct. I‘m not a native English speaker, but to me it’s a perfectly ordinary i-sound like in „mini“. Americans tend to describe it as „ee“, but I don’t think that’s correct. The i-sound is very short. There‘s no elongation of the vowel, otherwise they would write it as Yui-metal, as they do with Su-metal.
@jeffschreifels8651

Your example of 'mini' is correct. Maybe it's a better way to describe it than EE. I should just link a video of Yui saying her name. That would be the most accurate.

@@chrisharris1522 So true, and That´s because Most reactors don´t pay attention, base on the fact that the songs are in Japanese ,and frequently ignore some frases that are "actually in English" in their songs and in YUI and MOA´s responses to what SU is signing. Sometimes You just want to correct them or point out what they have just missed for not listening carefully. A little Google search before the videos wouldn´t hurt, IMO.

In one previous video you said that you love Ijime Dame Zettai song, so... even if you don't react, you have to watch Ijime Dame Zettai live in Tokyo Dome... one of the best performances of all. Great reaction - but I would put money on it that as you reacted to 'Akatsuki' unfinished version first whoever asked for the reaction intended that you react to the performance of 'BABYMETAL Death' that followed immediately after that at the Legend 1997 concert. This one was the opening number for their second night at the Tokyo Dome (55,000 people each night) and what better way for the three of them to enter the stage than to rise up from below stage at the end of their individual coffin shaped runways hanging on crosses. No, they're not doing Christian mythology, it just looks cool and "Metal". 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track on the first album and was most often used as the show opener - it is the perfect introduction - that is what the lyrics are:- "B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L Death Death Death Death Death Death. Su-metal death. Yuimetal death. Moametal death. BABYMETAL death. Death Death Death Death Death Death." It is a play on words. There is no 'TH' sound in Japanese, so to a Japanese speaker the English word death sounds like desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means "To be - I am - you are - we are - it is" etc ... so in Japan you might introduce yourself as Venice Magic desu.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 💀 💀 💀 Only about 1% of the population in Japan are Christian. For most Japanese, the main exposure to Christianity is through popular culture like movies, anime or manga comics. In BABYMETAL's case, also through the imagery used in Metal concerts. Fortunately most folks understand this is metaphor and spectacle. It sounds like you got the play on words in the song title and lyrics. The word "desu" in this context, can mean "I am" or "We are", and is pronounced "des", which can sound like "death", especially if you stick your tongue out a bit when you say it. BTW, the "i" in "Yui" sounds like a long "e". Its clearer when she introduces herself in interviews, rather than singing.

Nice reaction. To think all of that and it was just the start of the concert. Take a break talk to the audience for while then start the next song. Nah. Pause and start next song. Watch some of their festival appearances and you can get a feel for how their own concerts go. They don't really address the audience unless it's during a song. Which makes it all the more impressive that they can command a crowd the way they do.

The effects on Sue, Moa and Yui's voices during concert are handle by the live sound tech team. Same as any other band using different chorus, ecko, reverb or pitch effects.. this is nothing new on stage.. or rocket science.... Many instrument use it to change the sound using effects... There is no difference using this for voice during a concert, it take one click and a kid can sound like a growling man or one click and a growling man sound like a kid.. etc.. etc..etc.. If you pay attention you see it is alway one of them doing the scream or growls either Moa or Yui and with a pitch effect on the voice.. Mostly what I seen it is Moa who does the growls but also Yui does it. For the scream that Sue does, that is her screaming with reverb and chorus effect on the voice. Some concert where there is growl or scream and there was no effect on the voice and it is easy to hear. Mostly noticed in some of the live "Catch me if you can" performances where the so called (Oni growls "I Found you/it" 見つけた (mitsuketa)) and it is Moa who does that most of the time, some time Yui and they have a pitch changer on the voice making it sound like a growling man. But on a couple concerts the effect was out or is just not added and you hear it easy the normal voice shouting instead. This can be noticed with a lot other growls and scream moment in other songs to.. Just pay more close attention to their faces what's going on during concert and you see and hear when it is live or a prerecorded effect as in some songs. YES! YES! calm down! Some time they use pre recorded growl and scream effects, but do study it close and listen and you see it is not as common as you think it is, they do sing live all of it... CHEERS!

The title "Babymetal Death" is a play on words. In interviews, the girls would introduce themselves while biting their tongues to make the "th" sound which does not exist in the Japanese language just because it was cute and funny. Rather, they are singing "Des! Des! Des! Su-metal des!",etc. Des is a shortened or slang version of Desu, which translates to "I am/We are". The title and imagery are purely for the cool metal factor while the girls introduce themselves. 😉

Sorry for the miscommunication, Venice. We had meant to suggest Babymetal Death from Legend 1997, which directly follows on from Akatsuki (Unfinished ver.) and continues the story it started to tell, but I think some wires got crossed when the Reactor Resource spreadsheet was sent at the same time. Completely reasonable to to miss the finer details when you were being inundated by suggestions after joining the server. That being said, this is another great reaction from you. Love how excited you got about the huge show (and everything else 😄). This was their biggest venue to date, with a capacity of 55000 - and they sold it out on back-to-back nights. They're some of their best shows for the sheer scale and theatrics (though there are some moments in other shows that eclipse even this from a stage show perspective - for example, Babymetal Death at Legend 1997), and yet the best part in my opinion is how much fun the girls are clearly having, especially in the later songs. Looking forward to more BM content from you!
