Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🦊 🦊 🖖 ❤

Great reaction. This video is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the launch of their first album, 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on the album. They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't really use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018. This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as an official member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu". The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death". You got a hint of the sort of thing they do and the theatrics at the start of this performance when they play 'BABYMETAL Death' ... I don't remember if you saw it yet (I'm sure we must have suggested it if not), but I suspect you would enjoy the Legend 1997 performance where they were celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday. Being an introduction song they would normally play it right at the start of the concerts (it is a great way to get the crowd hyped and joining in straight away), but that was one of the special occasions where they played it later in the show - for that one it was the finale.

Grington300 hat es schon erklärt, aber für diejenigen, die neben keinem Japanisch auch kein Englisch sprechen (und damit ich mich schlau fühle), eine kurze Erläuterung, warum dieses Stück der perfekte Eröffnungs-Song ist: Das japanische Wörtchen "desu" entspricht in etwa der deutschen Kopula "sein". So wird es auch verwendet, um sich vorzustellen. Wenn die Mädels also sagen "Su-metal desu, Moametal desu, Momometal desu, BABYMETAL desu", heißt das nichts anderes als "Ich bin Su-metal, ich bin Moametal, ich bin Momometal, wir sind BABYMETAL". Im "Hochjapanisch" ist das u am Ende von desu fast komplett stumm, so dass es klingt wie "des". Da der durchschnittliche Japaner die Aussprache des englischen th-Lauts etwa so gut beherrscht wie der deutsche, klingt das für ihn fast identisch wie "death". Daher der Titel "BABYMETAL DEATH" - es ist also eine Einführung der Band und Mitglieder und gleichzeitig typisch Metal. Ich finde das ein ziemlich faszinierendes Wortspiel für ein Lied mit so wenig Text. :-) Diese Performance hat einen spezielle Bedeutung für uns Fans, weil es das erste Mal ist, dass der Song nach der offiziellen Bekanntgabe von Momoko als festes drittes Mitglied gespielt wurde. Es war also das erste "Momometal desu". Ich genieße jedes Mal den frenetischen Beifall der Menge nach Momoko's Zeile, da es durchaus nicht selbstverständlich war, dass sie von den Fans akzeptiert wird (Stichwort Yui-Drama). Das berührt mich jedes Mal, denn ich mag Momoko sehr. Im März bekommt sie ihre "Legend MM" Show, also eine Show zu Ehren ihres 20sten Geburtstags (analog zu Legend S und Legend M für Su und Moa). Der 20ste Geburtstag ist Japan ein besonderes Ereignis, da man dann volljährig wird. Das wird sicher wieder super, wahrscheinlich können wir uns auf eine Version von Headbanger mit ihr als Haupt-Sängerin freuen!

Nun, der echte Titel ist Babymetal desu. Die Mädchen wurden mit Stage-Persona ausgebildet, und das Lied wurde als Opening konzipiert damit sie schnell ihre Persona finden. Doch seit dem Ausfall von Yui 2017 funktionierte es nicht mehr. Doch sobald sie Momoko als neues Mitglied bekommen ist es wieder ihr Standard Opening.
