Babymetal is what would happen if you mix the Disney Channel, Metallica, and Anime all together. Surprisingly, the blending of the different genres works quite well and sounds amazingly good.

Welcome to Babymetal! They have actually been around since 2010 and started when Su(lead vocal) was 12 and Moa & Yui were 11 years old. Sadly Yui is no longer with them. They just celebrated their 10 year anniversary with a huge series of concerts. If you go on I'd be interested to see you do a current song like PA PA YA.

Babymetal came out in 2010. It was a subunit of Sakura Gakuin show for the growth of young women specifically age groups of 10-15. In 2012 the leadsinger Su-metal graduated and Babymetal became an independent label in 2013. The two younger dancers Yuimetal and Moametal would pull double duty for a couple more years til 2015 at Sakura Gakuin as well as performing with Babymetal, especially as they prepped for a World tour. They toured with many famous international rock and metal bands, metallica, kiss, red hot chilly peppers, guns'n'roses, to name a few. The Give Me Chocolate MV you watched there had a 16yo Su-metal flanked by 15yo Moametal and Yuimetal. In 2014 the younger two were still at Sakura Gakuin. In 2017 Yuimetal left the band due to health problems. 2018 saw Moa and Su seeking out a replacement and they called them the Chosen Seven. The Australian tour had chosen the replacement to be Saya-metal. There was a 8 month hiatus and in late June 2019 Babymetal was back with a new theme, three dancers called the Avengers. Riho-metal was the friend of Su-metal, same age, from Hiroshima. They were both at Actor School Hiroshima but took different career paths. Kano-metal was the youngest and only did a few Japanese concerts. Kano was still at Sakura Gakuin in her final year there. She was also in the J-pop group @OneFive. Momoko-metal graduated Sakura Gakuin a couple years before. All three showed very strong work ethics and able to keep up with high energy choreography that was demanded of them. Su-metal still remained the leadsinger. Moametal became the dance leader. Got to watch out for Moa as she tends to improvise. The Avengers were interchangable, as it was always a surprise who would be chosen. One of the final concerts in 2020 had all five girls on stage. Sadly Covid19 cut several tours short. During 2020 and 2021 Momoko was the only one ofbthe Avengers still in employ. We thought she might have become the permanent replacement. Several concerts were streamed Live during the many Lockdowns. Today Babymetal is on another hiatus. There is a new mystery to be unveiled in late mid-October. Riho had left in 2020 to pursue her theatre career, she done a musical, and had recently a one-woman show with mixed reviews. Kano left in 2019 to be more permanent in her group of OneFive. Momoko left in 2021 at the wake of Babymetal going on hiatus to enter a Korean reality talent show called Girlsplanet. Despite her Global popularity, and that the Korean show is rigged, she was voted out. I am sure it was a good experience for her. The Korean show has had a sudden drop in viewership. We are all waiting with what Babymetal is planning to do next.

The Red Hot Chili Pepper performed this song with them. 4. They are buds with Metallica and Slipknot 5. They had a cameo in Corey Taylor's video 6. They performed Pain Killer and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford of Judas Priest 7. They are the only Asian group to ever hit #1 on Billboards Top Rock chart. 8. BabyMetal and Black Pink are the only albums by girl groups in history to enter the Top 10 of Billboard’s World Albums Year End Chart. 9. In a recent interview Corey Taylor of Slipknot was asked who he listened to at home and he said "BabyMetal" 10. In 2015 Vogue Magazine Japan named them Women of The Year. You’ve taken your first steps into a larger world!

"I've never seen anything like this" is 99% of the reactions for people seeing Babymetal for the first time. That's the genius of the concept, but then you realize...holy Shida this is pretty damned good.

Good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. What was that you said - gimme all the facts? As you asked so nicely (and I'll apologise in advance, this could take a while ... to read). BABYMETAL are Su-metal (now 23) and Moametal (now 22) - the third original member, Yuimetal, sadly left the band in October 2018 having been absent from the stage for the previous 12 months. She had ongoing (and undisclosed) health issues and had not fully recovered so was still unable to perform, so she announced she would be leaving the band and hoped to follow her own long held dreams. Since the start of the 2019 tour Su and Moa have been supported by three dancers (the Avengers) who take turns to dance in the third spot (they do not have any vocals so far). They are Kano, Riho and Momoko, but it looks like Riho and Kano have moved on, Momoko has been the Avenger for at least the last 25 shows. They started in 2010 as a sub-unit of a J-Pop Idol group and celebrated their 10th anniversary last October. As members of that group they would sing songs and dance, the only difference is that instead of singing and dancing to pop music they do it to metal music - and it is metal, not just distorted guitars stuck on pop tunes. At the start they had no budget from their agency, this was the pet project of just one man (Kei Kobayashi - a lifelong metalhead with a great love and respect for metal) based entirely around the vocal talents of the lead singer Su-metal. Koba thought her vocals too powerful for pop and that she could front a metal/pop fusion band. They had to be self-funding (they even borrowed clothes to make their costumes for their first shows with the Idol group - the other sub-units had theirs paid for) as no agency in Japan in 2010 would have invested in metal as there was virtually no market for it at that time, but under the umbrella of the Idol group there was no risk to them if it didn't take off or just failed. So they sang their songs and danced to a backing track with pre-recorded instrumentals and they started to gain a small following. They started to play their own shows, starting off in tiny venues with a capacity of 150-250 people and they played the food hall at a metal festival. As they gained more popularity a little more budget was made available and late in 2012 the live band (the Kami Band) were brought in to play the encores in a couple of shows and they played at a couple of festivals with BABYMETAL. In 2013 Su was 15 and it was time for her to graduate from the Idol group (it had a school theme and was for girls aged 10 to 15) and it was decided that BABYMETAL should be her vehicle and should separate from the Idol group to go with her as an independent band in their own right. In December 2013 she turned 16 and the final step was taken in the transformation of BABYMETAL from sub-unit of the Idol group to independent band. In anticipation of this the Kami Band were phased in gradually as I described above. They became the full time backing band early in 2014. If you see the musicians in a video wearing skeleton suits (as you did in the 'Gimme Chocolate' video) they were miming the instruments to a backing track - they were called 'Babybones' and were there for show (no pretence was made otherwise, everybody knew what they were doing). The Kami Band are the ones in traditional white burial robes and white corpse face paint (more recently in black robes and now wearing masks ... nobody likes the masks). The Kami Band are among Japan's very best session musicians and can play anything. For the 2019 and 2020 US and European tours the Kami Band of the West (American musicians from Galactic Empire on guitars and bass, Anthony Barone on drums) were introduced. This video was filmed at the Legend 1997 show in December 2013 (Su-metal the lead singer was born in 1997, this was her 16th birthday celebration). This is the official video and the audio is from the studio - they are one of those rarities, a band who sound better live. This was before they had released the first album - and in this configuration of the Makuhari Hall the capacity was about 8-9,000 people - and it was full. The official video for 'Gimme Chocolate' was what went viral and got them noticed internationally and it was hugely important that happened or most of us would probably still be in a musical void, but it was the WTF factor that had it go viral. Live with the Kami Band is so much better. BABYMETAL have 3 studio albums and about 50 songs now - and every one of them is different. They have songs in virtually every metal genre and will mix in or fuse countless other musical styles or genres whenever they feel like it pretty much - they follow nobody else's rules. This is just one of the things that makes them unique, innovative and never boring. Some songs are very heavy, others lean more towards their pop roots and you will find everything in between - eventually. Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). The name was chosen for two reasons: - to symbolize that they gave birth to a new genre of metal music (kawaii metal) - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun): BABYMETAL = ベビメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru) heavy metal = ヘビメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)

Yeah, you haven't seen anything like this before. 3 little Japanese girls fronting a heavy metal band tearing up stadiums all over the world. Their energy levels infect the crowd and the shows are just insane.

What's crazy is that the girls are only 22 and 23 years of age and yet they have over ten years of professional experience each (Su, the lead singer, started very young indeed). This is the song that has newcomers to Babymetal scratching their heads, something the girls themselves readily acknowledge. They are 16 and 14 at the time of the concert. They are the most famous and popular Japanese Group/Band in the world. In 2019 they sold-out the LA Forum and were the first Japanese to play Wembley Arena London. The number of awards they have is unreal. Babymetal was created in 2010, but the girls have been performing since they were 6 yo. Japan is the #2 music market in the world and right now there are a 100++ all female Rock/Metal bands in Japan.

I have been a fan for more than four years now, and I can tell you, the smile doesn't go away. As you said, the fusion of genres is so brilliantly unique, and the way they are bringing it to the stage is just incredibly entertaining. The spectrum of their music is pretty wide, from (almost) pure Metal on one side to (almost) pure Pop in the other side, with dozens of other genres sprinkled in for good measure (Waltz, Reggae, Ska, Hip Hip, EDM, Dubstep...). If you pick five songs, you'll hear five different (but equally great) Metal fusions. Please try a few, you won't be disappointed!

BABYMETAL is just magical... Their live performances are all EPIC. BABYMETAL was formed in 2010 as part of school like group called Sakura Gakuin. BABYMETAL became an independent act from 2013. So they've been around 10 years. I got to know about them last year October when the band Bring Me The Horizon featured them in one of their songs named Kingslayer. Babymetal is pretty awesome. You should check out there other songs such as Headbanger (Live), Megitsune, BxMxC, and their summer party song PA PA YA. On another note, I think you should check out Band-Maid. They are the greatest! By far and away my favorite band. "Thrill" is their debut song once they switched labels and they have only gotten better and better. You can't miss with Band-Maid.

My favorite Babymetal song has always been iine (the second song they released). That, and their first song (Dokidoki Morning) mix in a lot more of the kids-jpop stuff that made them unique as a group. The further into their career you go, the closer they get to being purely a metal band. And if I just wanted a good Japanese metal girls band, I could listen to Yousei Teikoku. Other Asian stuff very much worth checking out: * Namewee. Definitely watch the MV for Fragile (featuring Kimberly Chen; It Might Break Your Pinky Heart) and The Wall. * Bloodywood. Start with Gadaar * Man (Japanese rapper). Start with Shou ga Aru. And of course the big news today is that VoicePlay just dropped a cover of We Don't Talk About Bruno.

Good news is you're not so "too late" with BabyMetal, a decade late you know is not too shaby :V I mean there's plenty footage material when they were kids or teenagers, but you're not gonna enjoy live concerts like these anymore of course, but they still rockin and they got the metal spirit along with some other flavors we all love from Babymetal.

The song is about girls watching their weight and their cravings for chocolate. All of their songs have a meaning.

Everybody should watch a Babymetal video. Not because you're necessarily going to love it but because it's so unique. You might not like it but you have never seen anything like it. (unless you saw one of the groups that imitates or was inspired by Babymetal) They invented their own genre of music and live performance.

Your reaction was pretty much the one we, as The One, can see in many many other reactions when they explore Babymetal for the first time. Totally confused with a big smile on your face. Babymetal has been around for more than 10 years now (they just finished their 10-year anniversary show series at the legendary Budokan) and have filled up arenas like the Tokyo Dome with 55.000 fans on 2 consecutive days (110.000 people in total), so yeah, one can say they are quite popular =). If you want to explore how it all started, give Doki Doki Morning a go and if you want something more recent, Karate is probably a good way to start with (despite Karate being around for some time now^^). I am sure you will get surprised by every Babymetal song since there is probably not one like the other in the over 50 songs they have released. Oh and apart from a very few exceptions, Babymetal is best live so I suggest checking the live versions rather than the MVs. And please, please, stay away from compilation videos, they never give you a good picture of what Babymetal truly is. Yuimetal (Yui Mizuyno) and Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) were both 14. The BABYMETAL members are very aware that their initial impression is often "WTF?". They compare that to what they first thought when they were introduced to metal music. This whole concept of combining JPop/Idol music with Metal could have been a disaster, but the quality of the singing, songwriting, choreography and staging take it to another level. 'Gimme Chocolate!!' is definitely one of their "poppier" tracks. They have been joined on stage for this song by members of Korn, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and DragonForce. Not all at the same time though. : ) Pretty much every song is different. They believe that if any song sounds too much like it's from a single genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song. Many BabyMetal fans consider this their favorite song - Road of Resistence… showcases how passionate The One (what BabyMetal fans are called) - Nightmare of Rondo w/ the Kami Band intro…. Showcases the Kami Band (backing band made up of some of Japan’s best session musicians) & Sumetal’s extraordinary vocals - Akastuki…. The general concensus of the One (Babymetal fans) is that Babymetal is better live (I tend to agree) but they do have several music videos that are real works of art. I hope you end up going further down the foxhole and remember this: first, there will be a number of "WTF?!" moments; second, expect the unexpected - Babymetal is very good at catching the uninitiated off guard.
