You want to know who they are and are they still around ... I think I can help. For a start they celebrated their 10th anniversary just a couple of days ago and they are now 22 and 21. This was filmed at the Legend 1997 show in December 2013 where they celebrated the lead singer's 16th birthday, the two younger girls were 14. 'Gimme Chocolate' is just one of their fun songs - they want chocolate but they're a bit worried about their weight, so wait a minute. But it is chocolate and it would be so nice, so can they have some, just a little piece, it will make them happy' They have many deeper and more meaningful songs. About feeling weird as an adult watching BABYMETAL - don't feel weird, there is and has never been anything dubious or sexualised about them, not one lyric, not one dance move, their costumes expose no flesh and this is very deliberate. They are there because of their talent and they are the most successful Japanese band outside of Japan of all time (there are many much more successful in Japan of course) because of their talent, hard work and quality. Their name 'BABYMETAL' is not about their age (although when they started in 2010 they were aged 12 and 11 so it probably did play a part too). Every song is different, they have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix and blend in many other musical styles and genres - often when you least expect it. They are primarily a fusion of metal with J-Pop aesthetics and choreo. Some songs are just hard and heavy, others lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between. They now have 3 albums (plus a couple of live albums and several DVDs from their live shows) and about 50 songs. Every song is crafted, there are no fillers - and they never get boring. Live performance videos are by far the best way to see BABYMETAL (this was a live performance but the studio audio was dubbed onto it, which is a shame as they sound better live) - their official videos are good (especially for 'Karate' and 'Megitsune' and a couple of their very first songs and official videos are well worth watching - 'Doki Doki Morning' and 'Iine' - that is IINE, not Line), but live is where they are at their very best. They formed in 2010 as a sub unit of a J-Pop Idol group called Sakura Gakuin which had a school theme and was for girls aged 10 to 15. The original three members were Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal, lead vocals and dance), Yui Mizuno and Moa Kikuchi (Yuimetal and Moametal, scream and dance ... in this instance scream means backing vocals, harmonies and leading most crowd chants and call backs. They are not just dancing to fill the stage, their choreo helps to interpret the lyrics or meaning of the songs and it is also designed specifically to get the crowd involved - when they sing a line or jump or make a particular move so does the audience. Although they were only 12 and 11 when they formed the whole idea was based and developed around Su-metal's vocal talents and stage presence. As a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin they had their own songs and dances they would perform to a backing track at SG shows and Idol festivals, but against all expectations they started to gain their own audience and put on a couple of their own shows in venues with a capacity of 150-250 and played the food hall in a couple of festivals. As these went well it was decided that when Su-metal reached 15 and would have to graduate from SG, BABYMETAL would go with her to become an independent band in their own right, but Yui and Moa would continue to work with both BABYMETAL and SG until their own graduations two years later. Sadly Yui left the band in October 2018 for undisclosed health reasons, she last appeared on stage in October 2017. Since the start of the 2019 tour Su and Moa have been supported by the Avengers - 3 girls who dance in the third spot sometimes for a whole show or more and then one of the others will step in for the next show or maybe more. They are Kano, Riho and Momoko. In anticipation of the separation a live band was phased in gradually from October 2012, at first playing a couple of festivals and the encore in a couple of BABYMETAL's own shows. The separation took place in 2013 and as a final step, at this same show (Legend 1997 celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday in December 2013), the live band came on for the last 5 songs (they started the show singing to a backing track with the instruments mimed by a fake band wearing skeleton suits - they were called Babybones and you will have seen them waving guitars around in the background). The live band became their full time support for all live shows in early 2014 - they are the Kami Band (Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar bass and drums) - they are among the very best session musicians to be found in Japan and are truly world class. BABYMETAL are now one of the very best live bands in the world - and have nearly 30 awards to say that is not just my opinion. After 'BABYMETAL Death' for something completely different again I would like to suggest a song called 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, Forever) live at Sonisphere in the UK 2014. Aged 16 and just turned 15 they made their first step outside of Asia (apart from couple of small shows in France and Germany days before) opening the main stage on Saturday morning at a major event where Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Metallica and other big names in metal would be playing. They were unknown to the vast majority of the crowd - 50-60,000 UK metalheads - and were faced with a sea of puzzled looking faces as three little Japanese girls wearing red tutus stepped on stage. They had half an hour and played 5 songs to try and win over what is known to be a hostile crowd who throw unsavoury things at the stage if they don't like what they hear. This is one of their more "young years" songs and is used as a "WTF filter" for people who have never seen them before. They have much more complex (and mature) songs but "GIMME Choco" is a perfect intro to the band. This song is one their simplest and most bubble gum pop, both musically and thematically. It's a cool intro to the band for the 'what did I just see/hear?' effect, but it's not in my top 20 for BABYMETAL songs. You guys are fun, I hope you do more of their stuff. BABYMETAL 101 Founded 2010 and produced by Key “Koba” Kobayashi from the Amuse Inc. talent agency. Babymetal name comes from the birth of a new style of metal fusing j-pop with metal creating what they call Kawaii Metal (Cute-Metal). The group currently consists of Suzuka Nakamoto aka “Su-Metal” (22 years old) sometimes referred to as Vocal and Dance, and Moa Kikuchi aka Moa-Metal (21 years old) sometimes referred to as Scream and Dance. With a rotating trio of girls filling the third slot, in a 3-member formation. These girls are known as Avengers and are Kano Fujihara (16 years old), Riho Sayashi (21 years old), and Momoko Okazaki (17 years old). They are supported by a rotating selection of talented backing musicians known as the Kami Band (Kami is usually poorly translated as gods, but in truth it more closely means awe inspiring spirit, entity, or object) It is why they are dressed in white to look like ghosts or spirits, though Kami being used as God(s) is so common in translation the white outfits get lost. The Lore is complex and involves a battle against other evil idol corporations, gaining powers running a resistance group, all at the direction of a mythical deity known as the fox god, against an all power enemy known as Akiba. The first Legend show I was the Kami Bands introduction to the end, but it also had the Skeleton Band which is seen in the wildly popular Gimmie Chocolate Music Video. This was followed by Legend D, and then Legend Z, in which it was learned that Babymetal would continue as its own entity after Suzuka’s graduation from Sakura Gakuin in March of 2013. Slowly over 2013 the Skeleton Band would be phased out of all live shows, as Babymetal came into their own. Babymetal as it is most commonly known as with Su-Metal, Moa-Meta, and Yui-Metal, Kami Band, and a somewhat understandable lore is what consisted for the majority of it’s existence. Also established beyond the 3 member formation, they had 2 other set ups, one was what fans called Su-Solos, and it would just be Su on stage with the Kami band, performing a solo, and the other is known as Black Babymetal by the band themselves, which consisted of just Moa and Yui. Music Videos of this Era Gimme Chocolate Megitsune Rondo of Nightmare - With mischief of the Gods Intro (Su Solo and a great expedition of the Kami Band) Road of Resistance Live in Japan (Co-written by Dragonforce) Iijime, Dame, Zettai Live at Sonisphere (No More Bullying Forever) Karate The Dark Times, The Chosen 7 Era In December 2017, Yui would miss the Legend-S concert for health reasons, these health problems would prosiest into 2018 and greatly affect the 2018 touring season bring the “Chosen 7” formation, consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and 2 backing dancers Minako Maruyama, and Minami Tsukui. Changes they would not tell fans and all throughout 2018 communicate extraordinarily little causing lots of pain for all involved fan and performer. This era is noted by their strange armor like costumes, sometimes referred to as Elf Armor. To make the poor communication, and Yui’s absence wasn’t bad enough, one of the more regular Kami band members, Mikio Fujioka passed away after falling off a balcony in late December 2017 while star gazing. A beloved and incredibly talented musician lost leaving behind his wife and only child. In September 2018 Yui would formally resign from Babymetal, stating her unspecified health and wishing to move on. Babymetal themselves announced that the group will move on focusing on Suzuka and Moa. (Something many idiots within the fandom refuse or are too stupid to understand) In October Babymetal had a concert called Dark Night Carnival which added dancers, Shoko Akiyama, Saya Hirai, and Kotono, placing a total of seven girls on stage. This was also done without warning to fans and was an absolute mess. Babymetal would finish off the 2018 tour season returning to the 3-member formation with just Saya Hirai joining them in southeast Asia and Australia. Ending one of the most troubling times in Babymetal’s history. Music Videos of this Era (These MVs do not feature the members in them at all) Distortion Starlight The Current Era (Metal Galaxy) The current set up was first introduced in 2019 during the Babymetal Arises concert in Yokohama, before the start, the “Avenger” support dancer concept was explained in the lore, and the concept thanks to communication and a maintaining of the 3 member formation brought Babymetal out of dark times brought about during 2018. Babymetal seemed to have returned to its roots with the Avengers, as 2 of the three (Kano and Momoko) come from Sakura Gakuin. The third Riho, went to the same performing arts school as Suzuka during the same time, Actors School Hiroshima aka ASH. Music Videos of this Era Pa Pa Ya Elevator Girl Shanti Shanti Da Da Dance (Avenger confusion) Which Avenger one sees can be confusing for those new to Babymetal. For the Music Videos, Pa Pa Ya, Elevator Girl, and Shanti Shanti Shanti, it is Kano Fujihara, who was just 14 years old at the time. Da Da Dance is a compilation of Momoko and Riho and a splicing of 2 different shows. In most fan cam videos of the American and European tour it would be either Riho or Momoko, as they toured with Babymetal in 2019. Kano had responsibilities with Sakura Gakuin as its president, a position Suzuka and Moa both held in Sakura Gakuin, and she’s never flown on a plane before. Some fans for 2019 did throw a stupid temper tantrum over the use of new Kami Band members who are from the west now known as the West Coast Kami Band, but like how the girls won over many, so did they and the payoff with the Legend Metal Galaxy concert was well worth it. COVID Era COIVD-19 has messed up a lot of things for everyone, Babymetal had to cancel their Asian tour, as well their big 10th Anniversary on October 10, 2020. Forced to keep it rather tame something very unlike Babymetal as even in their failures like the entire 2018 tour they do it septically. The question for many fans is what of the Avengers, since COVID, Avenger Riho Sayashi has signed with a new agency and has move on to other projects, including starting a fan club, which appears to rule her out of ever being an Avenger again. Kano Fujihara has graduated from Sakura Gakuin on August 30, 2020, a near 4 month delay. However, she and fellow Sakura Gakuin graduates Soyoka Yoshida, Tsugumi Aritomo, and Momoe Mori in the formation of @onefive. Which leaves Momoko Okazaki as last standing Avenger with no new commitments. However, Kano was technically in Sakura Gakuin, @onefive, and Babymetal all at the same time for almost a year so it is possible she will still be an Avenger. Loved the reaction, it was hilarious. Subscribed right away :). Usually most recommended/reacted Babymetal songs are Megitsune, Karate, Death, Road of Resistance. While I really enjoy them I find song like Distortion, Arcadia, Syncopation, Tales of the Destinies to be even better. But in general there is no a single song that would define Babymetal style. So you'd have to check them all ;)

Some advice about BABYMETAL reactions: tl;dr: Don't use compilations for BABYMETAL, we have a better solution. Please don't rely solely on videos that are on KZfaq (mainly compilations); they're not meant to be used for reactions as the mix of concerts and generally bad editing can make it confusing for those new to BABYMETAL. Also, you won't get the full BABYMETAL experience with these. Some people think they are safer for reactions, but they're not. They may get past the bot initially, but you still stand the chance of your video being blocked later and the possibility of having copyright strikes. Some fans made a selection of "best" performances for each song; I would suggest using it for future BABYMETAL reactions.
