I had to get back to Babymetal, just had to. This has been a large request so Here you go!
I apologize for the text being left on the screen for half the video, that wasn't my intention. I can't fix it now.......so that's my lazy editor failing at his job! Maybe because he was distracted by his Discord while trying to do his job....

Great reaction - and well spotted with Moa slipping and falling - apparently the corridor they were playing in was very slippery (yes they were just having fun while they recorded the video - there is a commentary video with subtitles they did a couple of years later where they talked over the MV about what they remembered). In this video, from June 2013, Su-metal (lead vocalist) was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal (backing vocals, harmonies, dance and in charge of hyping and involving the audiences in live shows) were 13 (I think the video was released on Yui's 14th birthday). 'Megitsune' regularly tops fan polls for favourite song. It reflects a lot of the Japanese culture starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen I think) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains why the fox masks were so prominent in this video) which in Japanese mythology are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The breakdown with the pig squeals uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su pulled the short blade (tanto) from her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. Much of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. I hope you will react to a live version too - you will see then how the crowd dance and sing along with the "sore sore sore sore" and other parts.

The MV and music really is chuck full of traditional elements, the traditional houses, the traditional Japanese festival chants in the lyrics, the traditional instruments, both shrines. The Enka singing style incorporated in the song, the playing of the old traditional games, the traditional dancer, the the traditional dagger/knife. Are the ones that come to mind. BUT maybe the best part is how they incorporated the traditional Sakura Sakura song in the break down.

When the breakdown hits and starts playing the melody of Sakura Sakura it gives me chills. You feel the weight of history in Japan and with the feminist nature of the song it feels like a testiment to the strength of Japanese women before and after themselves. It feels timeless and is forever my favorite song from the band! 🤟🦊

we the fans love this song. it is usually a top favorite of us especially live. has so much energy live. saw this late 2013 and been hooked on Babymetal ever. Su was 15 years old and Yui and Moa were 13 in this video. you need to look up translation to understand this song is about female empowerment. alot of Babymetal songs have very positive meanings in their lyrics. i think this song was released early 2013 and it blends so much styles in this song and it is so good. and yes you caught Moa tripping and falling down. this was shot at an actual temple and they used ancient traditional music instruments for the look and as others have said this song is variation of a traditional song. this is the most played song live they do. they do this song everywhere since they know the fans love this song.

Ryan (Mear), I'm glad that I checked this video out for several reasons. One, obviously it's Baby Metal and I have a growing appreciation for their music and performance. But secondly, and as important, I saw you wearing a Kanami t-shirt. I loved the text when I saw it during one of your reactions and I love the shirt even more - so I ordered one. Thank you for your reactions, the shirt, and your art and music. Have you tried cooking (sorry - just thought I'd add to your list) smile. Nice reaction. Such a fun video. There's a video of Babymetal reacting to their own videos and this is one of the ones they watch. You get a lot of inside info from it. Like just how much fun they had while filming this. And they scene where Moa crashes into Yui. Moa really was sliding across the floor. They said it was very slippery. A happy mistake that made it into the video. It's hard to sing. So, of course Su uses it to warm up with. They have also performed this song more than any of their other songs. The part of the video in black and white where to Su is calmly combing her hair is taken from a Japanese horror movie. Sadly, I never remember the name of the movie. Sorry about that. One of the great things about Babymetal songs and MV's is there's always more to it than what's at the surface. Prof. AJ Hartley does a deep dive (in English) into their MVs and song lyrics if you're interested into looking into it. He's cover just about all of their songs too. But I suggest still watching the song own your own first. The words are what they are but how you interpret them is what makes each song mean something different to the individual listener. Glad you liked this song it is a fan favorite. Enjoy the ride through the Babymetal galaxy of music.

⚡ 💀 💕 / 🦊 ⛩ [MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really. [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs) (Megitsune video commentary from the BABYMETAL members) Su was 15. Yui and Moa were 13, almost 14 when this video was released in early June of 2013. Even though they were wearing white robes, that wasn't the Kami Band that they have for the live concerts. The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group. Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown. Megitsune is my jam. Still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography. It's definitely quintessential BABYMETAL and their most Japanese song. BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was happy with the final result.

YOu know that text being left on the screen might save this video? Because usually this MV gets blocked a lot xD If you're unlucky and it still gets blocked, you can try and put a transparent logo on top or play a bit with the video opacity and upload it again! It usually works. If you are planning on doing more MV, be aware that from their official channel most are safe, but "Karate", "Gimme Chocolate", "Road of Resistance" live in Japan, "No Rain No Rainbow" live at Legend S and "The One - Stairway to Living LEgends" are not safe, and usually get blocked unless you play a bit with it with some watermakrs or stuff like that. You could start watching the first 2 MV they ever published, to get an hidea on how everything started! They are "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine" :)

Here's the girls commentary while watching the finished video for the first time: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qr5zdpxkud7Ynqs.html Gives you a little perspective into how they love what they do. While the commentary is years ago, the one comment Su makes about acting sad. They told her to think of Yui and Moa leaving her forever. Even then you see the strength of their bonds together. There is a comment about Yuimetal suggesting the fan-style headbanger, which was used. Shows the girls did provide input which was incorporated in the performance. In a Koba interview after Yui left, he said Su and Moa have taken ownership of BABYMETAL and have a more influence in the decision-making process.

Several times I played this part with screaming and beautiful eerie singing after. Babymetal and Nemophila. I usually prefer the originals (Cocaine - J.J. Cale, no Clapton; With A Litle .... The Beatles, no Joe Cocker ....), but here I like the cover more. Nemophila sounds more natural, heavier and more live. In Babymetal's performance, the scream and vocals are a bit covered by the drums. You can feel the work of sound engineers and processing. Finally, the biggest objection to Babymetal. A strange, unnecessary sound (as if the electricity ran out) was inserted between the scream and this beautiful, spooky vocal. For what!!! In Nemophila, Mayu sings right after the scream, and the ghastly atmosphere is undisturbed. Nemophil's recording is more "amateur" and it looks like Babymetal did a cover of a little-known band :-))) I recommend, like the people before, listen and react.

This is a fairly early video; BM are still quite young we don't get the actual Kami Band in this video, just some dancers miming, but this is where the esthetic of the Kami Band was born. Megitsune (vixen) is one of BM's female empowerment songs and it subverts many traditional Japanese attitudes to women. We immediately see that this is something to do with Japanese tradition as we have the old instruments, clothing and the setting. At the beginning Yui and Moa pull on Su's obi to release her so she can dance. The dance has wide leg lifts which contrasts with the traditional Japanese dance in the breakdown. In Japan the fox is believed to be a clever shape shifter and the lyrics liken women to female foxes in the way they have to be different things in different situations and often are crying inside while they are smiling outside. Su, Moa and Yui mime wearing a mask with their hands and also putting on make up which shows how women have to hide their true faces. The breakdown music is a classic song called "Sakura Sakura" (Cherry Blossom Cherry Blossom), but Su sings "kitsune, kitsune" (fox, fox). Also Megitsune was written at a time when BM were breaking away from their parent idol group "Sakura Gakuin" and the Fox God is BM's patron deity so it's speculated that singing "kitsune" is expressing their growing independence from Sakura Gakuin. You've also got to include the "super lady" concept of Sakura Gakuin which is hinted at in the lyrics and there's a bit of tension there, as BM the girls are maybe down playing it a bit, but when they have their SG hats on its a lot more straight forwardly trying to be the best that you can. Su's expression of female strength reaches a peak when she shouts "Otome wa nametara ikan zeyo" or "Maidens should not be underestimated", and takes the knife from her microphone, so she's saying she's capable of dealing with anyone who gets in her way. Foxes are also associated with Inari, the Japanese god of rice, abundance and now also material success in business. I think linking the "Fox God" to Babymetal is their producer Kobametal having a bit of a joke and what better mascot for a commercial venture.

You spotted Moa slipping. But you seemed massively distracted at the end of the track because you were petting a dog, or something? That's fine; but the way you tried to fake interest from that point made me highly cynical of the this channel. The reaction went instantly from "here's someone genuinely enjoying and appreciating the music" to "here's someone smiling and trying look good for the camera." Just my £57.5 (allowing for inflation.)

@@RyanMear Yes, it was. And yeah; I'm probably reading way too much into it. But there was a complete disconnect of attention to the reaction (where you pointed out a very slight detail) and then an amazingly cheesy attempt to re-connect to your audience. In these times, maybe some of us have become increasingly sensitive and cynical to fakery. Today, the camera _does_ lie, unfortunately. If you'd paused the the video and restarted explaining you'd been distracted then no problem. Which is weird, because that's probably the easiest way to fake sincerity that there is. Ah... I don't know. The world has gotten too complicated. We pretend we understand more, but somehow I think those girls running and playing around that studio set had far more focus and clarity and energy for life than I do right now. 🤷‍♂️

I mean, if any of what I said for the rest of the video made sense, it shouldn't be negated because my dog came into the room... to your last comment, I say this: I have been very honest about Babymetal and my journey shows it from Akatsuki to here . Other than that, I hope you are doing well.... sometimes a guy is just happy to see his dog.

I did put in a text overlay that I got distracted by my dog... but it was hidden by the other overlay that I missed being up the whole time!

@@RyanMear Ah. Well; fair enough. Something just rubbed me the wrong way about it for some reason. I'd actually just re-watched a load of your reactions which I again thought were some of the best out there. So I can't really explain my cynicism. Maybe I was just looking for faults simply _because_ your reactions are generally so good. 🤷‍♂️ Anyhow. Give the dog a pat or whatever from me. ❤

I dare say you'll make a better impression if you don't react by folding your arms and wrinkling your brow. It's especially fun for me to watch strong metalheads with loose cheeks, being boned by BM. Sorry, haha.
