Excellent reaction again. Budokan is a martial arts centre in Tokyo built for the 1964 Olympics. It is now considered a very prestigious venue for musical acts (the first to perform there was The Beatles) and you only get to play there by invitation. BABYMETAL became the youngest average age female group to play there (Su was just 16, Yui and Moa were still 14 so their average age was just under 15). They sold out 2 nights running - Red Night and the next day this one Black Night. The Kami Band for this show were (in order of solos for 'The Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' intro) Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (6 string bass) and Hideki Aoyama (drums). You were absolutely right - BABYMETAL got the very best when the Kami Band was brought in to support them for all their live shows ... the shows at Budokan were the first where the Kami Band played the entire concerts - they have been a constant in all live shows ever since, but up until then they had played a couple of festivals with them and had come on for the encores in some of the more significant shows.

That is what is known as a Su solo. She has a small number of songs she does by herself while Yui and Moa take a breather. There are also songs performed by Yui and Moa alone while Su takes a break. Yui and Moa alone are referred to as Black Babymetal. I would highly recommend the Su solos, which are, besides Rondo of Nightmare, Akatsuki, Amore, and No Rain No rainbow. Check out Akatsuki. A hauntingly beautiful heavy metal waltz.

It’s insane how a child- a 15year old kiddo is able to sing and perform like that. Clear vocal executions, no wavering within difficult notes, so much confidence, stellar attitude and stare downs, and just a powerful stage performance in general. All of this in a 15 year old, 5’1 girl. Lots a respect towards her, she’s an alien, I’m sure of it!

Bought this bluray for only 8.99!!! What more can you get for under 10 bucks? Famous concert where Yui fell off stage (not visible on bluray) and Moa fell on her face too (also not to see). The girls took some serious beating in Red night and the show went on. BIG respect for that! This is Black Night however. 1st solo Leda Cygnus, 2nd Takayoshi Ohmura, Bass solo BOH and finally Hideki Aoyama on drums before Metal Queen Suzuka emerged from the ground.

Rondo of Nightmare is a song about a girl trying to escape from... something. We don't really know what it is, and part of the song is that we never really find out. When Su puts her head down and sings softly she's pleading with, whatever it is, to at least show itself before she perishes. As with all nightmares it never gets resolved. Su has two solos on each of the first two albums, while Yui and Moa (Black BABYMETAL) have two duets on each of the first two albums. They do this so that during performances they can each give the other a break. The intro here showcases the absolute metal masters of the Kami Band. A kami is like a god or a spirit of something, so the Kamis represent the gods or spirits of their respective instruments as summoned by the Fox God. I think a better translation for the intro is "Mischiefs of the Metal Gods". There are a pool of Kamis and they rotate in and out depending on availability because they all have their own bands and projects but in this performance in order of solos: Leda Cygnus (blue guitar), Takayoshi Ohmura (gold guitar), BOH (bass), and Hideki Aoyama (drums). The Kami Band backs BABYMETAL during all their live shows and have been since 2013. They made some appearances before then but since Su's 16th birthday show (Legend 1997) they have always been there. Their costumes were pretty much the white robes and face paint up until 2018, which brought the "dark side" lore and new black robes. In 2019 they changed again and also included masks, which a lot of the fans were not happy about.

Welcome sir, I would recommend Ijime Dame Zetta live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK as that was their first big tour outside Asia. They were supposed to play at a small stage but they were moved to the main stage and nearly no one knew who babymetal was. by the end of the song, Su controlled 50k people. It is a very emotional song about bullying. Also it really shows off Su-metals incredible vocal range. (she was voted best female vocalist in japan by independent judges, several years in a row now). I would also recommend Karate official music video, and Headbanger live, Megistune Live, CATCH ME IF YOU CAN - Live (Makuhari Messe), Kagerou live (from 2019) , THE ONE (OFFICIAL) this is in english..

Just as a rondo is a song with a repeating chorus where each verse given a different musical treatment, this song is about a repeating nightmare of being chased by an unseen demon. It is in the quiet verse, after having resigned to her fate, she bravely asks the demon to show her its form. This is the video that made my (many decades ago) 16 year old self fall completely gobsmacked in love with Su-metal. The image created of Su-metal as a music box dancer on the raised platform waltzing to the heavy metal chorus, while the band plays below on the slowly rotating stage... And when she comes in with the scream right on pitch... Did me in good.

Ah yeah, your 1st SU power ballad. This one is really good, it shows off the band and the singers skill very well. People complain that this is a band setup by a producer but a producer can get all the best musicians in Japan, setup awesome stages, they have experienced professionals from the Amuse Agency for lighting, sound, effects, choreography,.... I'm thinking that if you're impressed by this right now, we may just have you skip the more pop/kawaii songs, like Iine and Doki Doki morning (they were done when they were really young; 14 for Su and 12 for Moa and Yui) and just go straight to the heavier stuff. I'd recommend "Headbanger" from the show "Legend 1997" (1997 was when Su was born), followed by BabyMetal Death from that same show. After that, get into Black Babymetal. That's Moa and Yui (Su takes a break). Sis Anger (BBM's heaviest song), followed by Onedari Daisuken, followed by 4 No Uta (also called Song 4). In Song 4, I think you'll love the breakdown in that one. ;) Then after that, you may want to figure out Link'n'Sync, as you'll want to react to Tales of the Destinies, and The One, from Tokyo Dome. If you thought the Road of Resistance crowd was huge, Tokyo Dome seats 55000 people. They sold that out 2 nights straight, and this was the only time Tales of the Destinies and The One have ever been played together. DailyMotion or Vimeo may have those clips. But you will not be disappointed with those.

Well, when you do an espectable of a little more than an hour with little girls, i´m speaking about 2014, so at this time Suzuka was 17 years if math don´t fall and Yui and Moa about... 15 you can´t let them on stage all the time. They need little rest, so Suzuka have some solo songs and Yui and Moa also have their own time as "Black Babymetal" acting also solo. This way they can rest a little. Just think that this mechanic was created at the beginning, when you can´t put little girls or 12/13 years one hour non-stop. Kami Band have some of the best metal musicians in Japan, and belive me, Japan have unbelieve musicians. Just try someday to react to Galneryus, for example "Angel of Salvation" where the guitar Syu to some incredibles solos (one of the best in Japan). Or maybe hear something from Hizaki in the groups Jupiter or Versailles. Or more fun. Try to react to a band called Lovebites. Did you know that Suzuka Nakamoto has an older sister Himeka Nakamoto? Himeka is somewhat famous too. She use to perform with Nogizaka46, a J-pop idol group. BABYMETAL started something in me and I've got into Japanese music as a whole. I like watching the idol variety shows (especially the ones with Eng Subs). I even asked J-pop idols too throw up the "kitsune sign" during the show if they like BABYMETAL. And it's happened twice now! Maybe just a coincidence, but it was still cool!

It was the ending song at this show, where they managed to turn an epic FAIL into an epic victory. - This was their first tour outside of Japan, and their first UK show - They booked a small stage but, for an unknown reason, they were moved to the main stage at the last minute. Instead of 3-5 thousand of their loyal fans they faced 30-50 thousand (?) trve metalheads. - This was a crowd waiting for Ghost, Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden. 90% of them knew absolutely nothing about BM. - BM released their debut album just a few months before. All the above mentioned bands had several albums and decades of history behind them. - They were girls between 14-16, all their songs had backing tracks, they sang not in English (the only other metal band that could get away with it recently was Rammstein). The backing band was made up of session musicians. The girls were singing about chocolate, and they were playing hide and seek on the stage, literally. They already had their own made up religion about the Fox God, and their hand sign was mocking the devil's horns. - This was NOT metal at all. They were nobodies and they didn't belong on the main stage of a metal festival. But, they knew it well, and they expected to get booed and bottled. There's a backstage photo of the girls before the show and their faces read "WE ARE F*CKED" And they went on the stage and Yui's hoodie got stuck in her hair, Moa's headset did not work and she missed the opening moves of the choreo. There was a close up of Yui's face on the projector screen at this moment, she saw what was happening, and for a moment her expression was like "ok, forget it, NOW we are f*cked..." - You can see in your video that Yui's skirt also started to fall apart at the last song, IDZ. - So what else happened? The crowd got a taste of the band at the soundcheck and they loved it. Then there was an epic (or ridiculous ?) Star-Wars style video intro showed on the screen. The first song started and 30 seconds later there were moshpits forming. In the next song, Gimme Chocco, there was a call-and-respond where Su effortlessly made the crowd sing the chorus in Japanese. Next came the solos and everybody shat themselves. Then the song titled Catch Me If You Can, then their women-empowering song, and then the ending song you saw. The biggest circle pits and WOD's of the festival. - Everybody was talking about them, and their T-shirts were top sellers even two days later. - If there's an epic entrance to the genre, this is it.
