Pre-ordered in June 2018, it arrived today after a 3.5 year wait. What a little cracker. The Bachmann / Rails Exclusive Edition Caledonian McIntosh Class 812 no. 828 (as preserved on the Strathspey Railway in Aviemore). Catalogue number 35-284Z.
It's fitted with a coreless motor - not the 5-pole I mentioned in the video.

Hi, thanks for sharing this fantastic review. She sure is a stunner in that livery! I’m thinking of treating myself to a loco soon and I’m looking around at what’s new and the 812 has been something I’ve glanced at a couple of times so this video has helped to give me a better view into what the model is like. Completely agree . This is a beautiful loco if a bit expensive compared to Hornbys J36 . I had to have it though . Same version as yours . As I’ve got a significant birthday coming in January my family are buying me a second one which will be the lighter blue livery . These lococos are superb . Like you I can’t understand why Caley Blue hasn’t been seen in model form before . I know we have the old Triang Caley 123 and Hornby “Smokey Joe” but really it’s about time we had more . I’m hoping if this is popular, and I think it is then someone will follow it up with a Cardean 4-6-0 or a Dunalastair 4-4-0. The major issues is of course that there are no preserved ones , but with folk tripping out to buy W1s surely a handsome loco like a Cardean would be just as popular. Great video ,looks a nice layout . Love the swans on the pond

Hope you enjoy the loco(s). I kept finding myself comparing it to the Hornby J15 which I got in the Kernow sale for £70 and I’ve seen a few comparisons to the Oxford J36, which really illustrates the crazy £200 price tag. Sometimes you just have to take it on the chin if it’s something you really want. It’s a lovely wee loco, a superb runner, but really it’s the paint job that makes it. It’s certainly a nice livery but the paint application is the best I’ve seen ready to run. Current prices just mean I’m buying a lot less. All the best, Colin

I have just been thinking how good it would be if Rails Of Sheffield were to produce a highly detailed Caledonian Single wheeler 123 next .

Wow! She's a stunner. I pre-ordered the black version in February 2018 and just been e-mailed this morning that it has been sent. Hoping it will arrive in time for Christmas. Looks like it has been worth the wait.

Nice one . I will be paying for my " as built " livery one on Friday . I too have waited for some time . You are correct there are not enough Scottish locos out there . Here is hoping that there might be more in the near future from Rails Of Sheffield .

Looks a cracking wee model and I also have had a Wee run behind her and got a few videos of her I am also waiting for my model to arrive but alas my one will be for Display not to be run in at all.

Aw enjoy it when it arrives, it is a cracking little model, unique and really reflects the beauty of the real 828. For what it’s worth it’s a great runner - no wobbles, no tight spots and a great crawler. I’m delighted with it.

Good question. The livery application is so beautiful on the model that I think I’ll be leaving it un-weathered. Don’t know if I trust myself to be able to weather it in a way that doesn’t spoil the paintwork. The real loco is kept pretty pristine anyway.
