Back In Charge, On Narrowboat 'Aslan'

2 жыл бұрынIt's literally a matter of days before Aslan is lifted out of Garstang Marina and placed on the hardstanding for a week - where she'll be pressure washed and re-blacked.
In readiness, I've spent the last week fitting a new Victron BlueSmart battery charger, as well as a Victron Duo Solar Controller.
I've also changed Aslan's H4 Halogen tunnel light bulb, to an H4 LED type - much brighter and consumes mere milliamps.
Also much to my relief and joy, I have at long last solved a 3 year charging mystery, by fitting a new alternator. Aslan can now charge her batteries, whilst on the move.
Finally (and for the last time) I open some more viewers gifts - one of which is from a previous 'mystery' contributor.

Hi Kevin, Small bottles are both the russian stout and the salmon and coppa bit home cured in my garage, brewery is also in the garage. As you can guess I spend a lot of time in the garage. Off to Spain and Portugal on the motorbike for a month. Catch you later - you just never know when I will surface again. !!!!¡ Si the pie

Absolutely brilliant Si and Sally. The mysterious Si The Pie strikes again. I still have the beers in cool storage and will open them in a later video, somewhere on the canals. Had no idea the foods were your own smoking and curing. What a talent. Everything was extremely delicious, especially the smoked salmon, cold meats and pork pie. Cheers again and all the best,

@@CountryHouseGent A pleasure Kevin. Just realised the small bottles are in fact a Belgian quadruple!! I normally make the imperial stout because it is scrumptious. Will be keeping up to date with your travels and you never know - I may strike again!! Take care and happy cruising. Off to Spain and Portugal in a couple if weeks for a month on the CRF250.

I savor these videos like a fine drink or dessert. Can't wait to watch it later. There are of course lots of narrowboat/etc videos on the interwebs, but you just have a knack of coming across as 'real'. I feel like I'm just relaxing with a friend. Thanks for your continuing efforts.

I'm from Denver Colorado and recently retired. I discovered your series and have been binge watching for 2 days. I'm on season 6 with 3 episodes left. I do see there is a season 7 on Utube which I will watch. I've enjoyed your adventures for too many reasons to even get into. My hope is that you continue. I find you far more entertaining than the mindless swill on cable tv.

Somehow I stumbled on Travels by Narrowboat a few weeks ago, and since then I have binged 6 seasons and hooked friends and family, as well. Furthermore, I have cooked and enjoyed my childhood favorites of Bubble-n-Squeak and Toad-in-the-Hole. Although I now live in Tuolumne, California, T by Nb has provided a memory canal to everything I love and miss about the UK. Thanks, Kevin. Am planning a trip over the pond this summer!

I'm just back from a visit to the U. K. and am catching up with your videos. This one was done on the day our flight was diverted to Birmingham, 18 February, due to the strongest winds in many a year, if not in history! Our destination was Bristol and while you were filming we were experiencing the wind you alluded to in the video! It's great to see you producing with some regularity and I look forward to the cruising that lies ahead.

My favorite narrow boat show! First one I saw also. Makes me want to visit England. My grandma (94) lives in Northern California ( far north coast near Eureka) and I love it up there. Very green very foggy and very cool most of the year. If it hits 71° f 21.6°c in the middle of summer that is a hot day. The locals get their one pair of shorts out and the Moss behind their ears dries out.

Dearest Kevin,,,I think you are taking this 'originality of travel route' thing all too seriously. All you need do is mind the season of travel, and each route can be taken four times, if indeed you are still blessed with four seasons in Blimeyland. Besides,,,what many enjoy most is your pithy commentary concerning the times we are living through, not the geology of where Aslan travels through, although that is fascinating. too. We love it all. Thank you!

Odds are after you went through the electrical system. Checking maybe tighten connectors you fixed the problem. The company that checked the old one only makes good money if they can repair the old one. I’m very happy you have all your power back working.

alternators - one of the many banes of my life.. in my experience, replace the alternator first with a new one. So many times I've had them repaired or replaced them with recon units, only to have further problems, and then you think it's something else and you end up replacing the entire electrical system unnecessarily.

Looks like you have made some changes to Aslan that will make him/her happier and able to better. I also like the fact you have a huge smile. The genuine joy you are experiencing is obvious. I am glad you are back on continuous cruising, you have brought many of us hours of job and a bit of envy at the cruising life you lead. Discard instead of dislard. It means the bread was made using discarded sourdough starter as one of the ingredients. That's as much as I know, but it's easy to google explanations.

Electrical problems are such a pain and your experience with multiple supposedly good alternators reminds me of a similar situation I went through...looks all top notch now!
