Why don't you leave Toronto? Continuing to pay the rent for a place in an expensive city doesn't make much sense if you're only living there part-time and you're trying to be FIRE. Couldn't you just get a shared room in a house in the suburbs 1-2 hours away from all this noise and save yourself maybe $1000 a month?

hey there! That's a very good question, and it's certainly something I've been thinking about a lot lately. Bit of context: I'm not renting, and I'm waiting for a response from the Belastingdienst (Dutch tax authority) which should give me a bit more clarity for the timeframe I'm looking at (in regards to moving to the NL). Just trying to avoid the scenario of a back-to-back move, since it is quite stressful, as well as the cost associated to selling my place. And to be fair, Toronto does have its perks, like being able to walk to the groceries, no need for a car etc. Somehow this time coming back to the city with all the crazy constructions around me, is a bit much 😅, so we shall see! I'm curious, do you live in a HCOL/big city or a LCOL/suburb? And how do you like it?
