@chankaist2962

@@10kqvtt Excuse me to say this to you but it’s not to the same degree though. Often autistic people have sensory issues. So the sun, the water, the crowd, the noises on the beach can already get your nervous system on edge as often the autistic brain fails to filter important information (like a person talking to you specifically, an alarm siren, or something similar) and instead you take in every lil thing going on around you at once, even a bird chirping close by. Then add a terrible thing happening on top and it can be just too much to handle. Especially since such things also happen unexpectedly, so even more so it can stress an autistic person to act extremely emotional/sometimes aggressive as it throws them off of a routine/plan that autistic people often require to function less anxiously and more effectively and ‘normal’ . Sometimes a tiny cut can make an autistic child cry terribly and it takes tons of time to calm them down because of it. It’s not just a physical but a mental and nervous system wise torture. Not saying all autistics are like that, some autistics have different issues, some aren’t as sensory sensitive. As for me, I definitely am and for NT (neurotypical) people we are then oftentimes seen as rude/overreactive or our pain and other things we feel so much harsher than others get talked down to ‘everyone gets overwhelmed at times or this and that situation’. But no, it’s unfortunately not the same level at all and not even comparable. You could see it on the reaction of the lifeguards, even they were surprised by the girl’s reaction, thinking she is overreacting, and these lifeguards literally safe kids from drowning yet they understood that autistic children just are different and they can’t help it, then felt apologetic to realize the girl was autistic so that’s why she reacted harsher than other kids…it’s not like a normal child throwing a tantrum cuz it’s overwhelmed by something. P.S: Don’t wanna come off as rude or lecturing. I just thought it’s important information you may lacked on autistic functioning in this case, nothing more. I wish you a good day! :)

@@kerryh3833 Except that as an employee you can't take the chance of listening to someone who claims to be something. I work in a casino (security), and have had quite a few medical incidents come my way, it is not uncommon for some stranger to claim that they are a nurse, a doctor, whatever; however due to company policy we can't allow them to assist us because if something happens to the person while they are assisting, guess who the family is going to sue? *US*. The same applies to lifeguards, or anyone else, that is in a position that involves protecting lives, you just can't take a random stranger at their word, for all you know they are just faking it to get attention and YES those people do exist.

I was on swim team by age 5 a lifeguard as a teenager a coach, and I’ve taught swimming for 35 years. I have great respect for the ocean. How is it that people who can’t swim are so careless?’
@patfromamboy
@patfromamboy Жыл бұрын
My theory is that swimming isn’t as important as floating is. If you can’t float you will eventually drown. I can float in the ocean and lakes that I visit. I can swim across the lakes back and forth. People in boats stop to rescue me but I can stay in the water all day because I can float. People need to learn how to float as well as swim.

I love this show. I’m a strong swimmer and have had a few close calls. Not in rough surf because I know what to do. One was because I was in cold water and could hardly breathe when I lost my footing on a sand bank and entered deep water. Thank goodness I was with a friend whom I could say “push me forward!” I could hardly breathe due to the cold and became a trembling wreck on the beach. I was shocked. Even strong swimmers can become endangered. Thank you to the beach patrollers who also keep an eye out. I never ever thought I could get stuck! It can happen to anyone. Yes my friend was with me but pratrolled beaches is what it’s all about for those who don’t have a safety net. Lifeguards are saviours. Never forget it.

2:39 I was about that age when I was rescued from a wave pool. I wasn’t a great swimmer and ended up too far and was getting really tired. The life guard was above me and I threw my hand up and asked for help. I wanted him to throw me a floatation device and instead he hit some button that completely stopped the waves in the wave pool. Everyone got quite. He jumped in and pulled me to where I could walk and then walked me all the way up this huge quite wave pool with everyone looking my way. Talk about embarrassed. I don’t know if things would have gotten more serious for me or not. But seeing this show and all the people who drown and need CPR and first aid to be brought back … I’m glad they were there for me. Despite me ruining everyone fun for a bit. 😅

idk if its been done yet but it would be a good idea to post signs in other languages than english, that area is obviously a popular spot for tourists, seems a lot of germans, Chinese, Indonesians, french, it would probably save the lifeguards a lot of unnecessary rescues.

Most of the signs have pictures along with them that are universal like someone swimming with a big crossed out circle over them obviously indicating no swimming. People are just idiot and when you get 40,000 of them on 1km of beach there’s bound to be plenty of idiots or cocky over confident swimmers.

anesthetist got disrespected, definitely the most qualified to respond and you can see by his look he felt helpless that he could help. they deal with life and death scenarios in much more complex and critical situations. If it was a gp or a nurse maybe i would i shunned them off but an anesthetist.
@nicolehuisman5147
@nicolehuisman5147 9 ай бұрын
actually, I think I would rather have a nurse or a GP. Nurses are usually first on scene at an arrest in hospital, and GPs will deal with situations outside hospital. A consultant anaesthetist is expert in complex situations, yes, but it's a whole different skillset dealing with an out of hospital cardiac arrest, never mind a drowning. He asked for a laryngeal mask, advanced equipment that the team likely doesn't carry, and wouldn't have a place in a lifeguard's equipment. Also, these guys know each other and train together, they work seamlessly as a team, they know what each other are capable of, he is an unknown entity, they'll do a better job without him. It's frustrating for the anaesthetist, but he's more of a hindrance than a help
@lorinavrodtzke8932
@lorinavrodtzke8932 5 ай бұрын
@@nicolehuisman5147that's what I was thinking. The lifeguards know how each other respond because they train and work together every day. The doctor, while he may have more training and experience, is still a wild card. If they needed his expertise they would have asked. They obviously did all the right things.

@@KumikoEri98 here in the south we've had once or twice where the water had the same temperature as the air, but that was only in 2018 when we had the draught, and again in 2022 or 2021. can't remember. looking at the weather for Harstad right now and it's sitting at 8 degrees Celsius. going up to18 degrees next Wednesday. and here in Lyngdal we have 22 degrees Celsius. with the highest being 26 on this Friday. so, yeah. i wouldn't mind some colder weather. oh and no rain for about 1,5 months here now.

Don't even get me started on Canada. Summers can be over 30°C and winters -30°C. It really gives you whiplash at how extreme the temperatures are. Spring at 10° is tank tops and shorts, in autumn the same temp is sweaters and jackets. Also, the weather is wildly different day to day too. I don't even live on the coast😂

I honestly don't understand how people make going to the beach such a difficult task or yet even parents not watching their children properly on the beach or near the sea. Imagine just standing on the shoreline, watching as someone drowns or swimming next to someone who is drowning and do absolutely nothing to help them. The first little boy drowning, there was a jetski right next to the boy just before the lifeguard got there. The whole "someone else will do it" way of thinking is disgusting. I'd never leave my child on the beach or near the sea on their own so i could sunbathe, let alone allow my 10 year old to go to the beach by themselves. I find it insane.

they could make a massive difference and lower rescues needed if they put the signs closer to the water and at EYE LEVEL.. no one is looking up to read a sign, it is most common to avoid signs all together, going around them. if your trying to have fun you don't want to run into a sign LOL or not have a clear view to the water when watching kids play. where I live we are known for our beaches but they use a floating boarder to mark off safe swimming areas
@nevaeha4048
