Andy was always very composed never jumped around the place and held solid backbone basslines, as he said his favourite is Barbarism and yet so repetitive....I bet he loved the variation right at the end! Totally underestimated, seen them in Feb 1985 in Dublin and will never ever forget that!!

He's absolutely right about a player's individual delivery, of course. Attack makes all the difference. Some people slam the strings with a hard pick and a lot of downstrokes (Duff McKagen, Rex Brown), some have a more moderate attack and use a lot of alternate picking (Andy Rourke), and some people insist on a light stroke with a thin pick (Fat Mike). Even that little piece of technique makes a huge difference and is part of a bassists individual style. Andy tends to prefer open strings with less neck movement, and he alternate picks rather than trying to downpick everything. He's also known to use fingers on some, pick on others, and seems to be equally good at both of them.

I'm surprised he didn't mention Jamerson. He played Mick Karn basslines. I play Andy Rourke basslines.
