🎶 "That's The Power Of Love!" 🎶 Fun Fact: The judge who stands up to say that Marty is "just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis, whose songs "The Power Of Love" and "Back In Time" are featured in this movie. Small Connection Fact: When Lorraine follows Marty back to Doc's house, she and Doc exchange an awkward greeting. This marks the only on-screen dialogue that Christopher Lloyd and Lea Thompson ever have, though they have appeared together in six movies. Automobile Enthusiast Fact: Writers Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis actually received a fan letter from John DeLorean after the film's release, thanking them for immortalizing his car.

This movie is the definition of what I call the Swiss watch approach to filmmaking, where every element is important and gets set up, reminded and paid off perfectly. Also, a subtle detail that comes across on rewatch and becomes a theme in the series: the reason Doc kept the letter, altering his own future to survive, is foreshadowed when he has the moment looking at the photo and seems worried but shrugs it off; George knocking Biff out changed history, and yet the photo remains as it should be, thus fate is not immutable - history hasn't been predestined.

One amazing thing about these movies is that they are full of small details! You can watch the trilogy ten times and every time you discover new small things that connect the story. For example, the mall was called "Twin Pines Mall" in the beginning. But when Marty travelled back to 1955 and escaped farmer Peabody, he accidently run over one of the pines with his car. And when he's returned to 1985, the mall is now called "Lone Pine Mall". Also, when Doc Brown was climbing/hanging/slipping on the clock, he broke off a small part of the concrete with his foot. That piece was not missing in the beginning of the movie, but after Marty's return to 1985, you can see the missing piece. Have an open eye for details like these... They will appear again and again in all three movies. ;)

Another interesting info: Actually, there was never planned to have a sequel. The scene at the end with the flying DeLorean was more planned as a funny/silly ending. But after the great success of the movie, they had no other chance than making a sequel and to go on with that teased storyline about Marty's kids...

Abi, watching this reaction reminded me of another series on Hulu called "Future Man." They too parody the "You know the new sound you're looking for, well listen to this" scene. I think you would LOVE that series. It is silly, very topical which references a ton of other works, and is roll-on-the-floor hilarious. Three seasons, and complete now. I highly recommend it to you, and think it would make a great replacement for Community as you finish that series. And as far as I know, no other reactors on KZfaq have done it yet.

It's such a fun, well-written movie. I love how on-point all the dialogue is; everything is about time or the future. Like how the asshole principle tells him that no McFly has ever done anything and Marty tells him "history is gonna change", stuff like that. (The principle is in Top Gun and Masters of the Universe too. That's, like, the most '80s trilogy you can think of.) ALSO... it's really weird that they keep Biff around at the end. Imagine some dude tried to fucking rape you and your future husband punched him out. Would you keep him around to wax your car, or... nah?

It just occurred to me, even if the Doc had been killed at the end, Marty could have taken some plutonium and recharged the Delorean and had a second go, since one assumes the plutonium was still there. Also the scene with Biff and Lorraine in the car. I don't think it was meant to imply a rape in the high school car park with all those people walking around, as I don't think Biff was that stupid since he was obviously scared of the Deputy Principle, but certainly he would have been feeling her up in a big way.

Omg, lessgoo... 🤘😝🤘 When you mentioned your only reference being _Rick & Morty,_ it reminds me of how as a kid before I saw this movie I'd seen the _Muppet Babies_ episode heavily based on this and *that's* what got me obsessed with time travel stories. *Edit:* the 80s was such a different time that Marty's dad being a creepy peeping Tom could just be dismissed as some kind of a comedy but ❗ 😳 Classic line: "Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

Another neat fact: Marty was originally played by Eric Stoltz, and they shot like 3/4 of the movie before dumping him! They wanted Michael J. Fox but he wasn't able to break previous contracts. Eric is a "method actor" (which a lot of actors find annoying) and also took the role WAY too seriously, he thought Marty's character was tragic and depressed. Here's some clips: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ld2ll7GS2LfGpmQ.html also here's Tom Wilson (Biff - he's actually a really nice guy) on working with Eric Stoltz, it's worth the listen: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gbOhoLOG2qi3noU.html

(Although I would, myself say that it's a directorial choice that most of the performances are a bit broad and cartoony). Just for educational purposes, off off Broadway (sometimes referred to as "downtown theatre" is a wonderful community of amazing artists who bring some of the best innovation to the stages of New York. Off Broadway has become just a Broadway lite showcase for established film and television actors.

So the original script makes this a lot more obvious, but the three parts of back to the future each represent a different phase of psychoanalysis, which zamecus was really into at the time. In the original script, it opened with Marty’s girlfriend, talking about family trauma being behind why he was too scared to send his audition tape and how her therapist says that family history was how to fix things. Doc is Marty’s psychiatrist. His dad his super ego. Biff his ID. In ep 1 he has to go back and strengthen his super ego to be able to not be controlled by his ID. (I’ll expand on this in the other comments for parts 1 & 2) Also best reaction channel. Thanks for making watching tv feel more communal during the pandemic
