Butthead: the Trilogy
Oh howdy there! Thanks for coming on by for the FINALE of our watchthrough of the Back to the Future trilogy!
As it says in the title and as I say in the video like 4 times:
THIS IS TECHNICALLY NOT THE FIRST TIME I AM WATCHING THIS MOVIE
I explained the reasoning last video and also a bit here again, but I edited a reaction video of this film for someone over 2 months ago; I may not have known really what was happening, but my first reaction to the film was basically "spoiled" due to it.
SO THERE YA GO. I apologize.
Despite that, I did wanna wrap up the trilogy with a reaction to this film though, since I just saw the previous two recently and would now understand what the heck would be happening in the third one; plus you guys all told me to watch it too!
So yeah! I hope you guys enjoy!
This was overall an amazing series and I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Onto the next!

The three actors that make up Needles' gang at the end are one guy from Mad Dog's gang, one guy from Biff's gang in the 50s, and one guy from Griff's gang in the future. The only reason Needles exists at all was because the second movie needed a villain that was Marty's age, but they wanted to make sure he was still a Biff analog. You probably already know by now that Needles is played by Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, but he also played bass on "Bust a Move" by Young MC (a huge novelty rap one-hit wonder in the 90s), Alanis Morisette's "You Oughta Know", and even worked with folk/pop singer Jewel a few times.

Even as a kid watching this, I noticed that most of the 1885 residents of Hill Valley were old. Later, I found out that it was because most of the cast had played the same types of characters in Westerns, which were at their height of popularity about a generation before this movie was made. The actor playing the bartender, for example, had played bartenders in two Western films.

There was a deleted scene where Marshall Strickland was killed by Tannen in front of his (Strickland's) kid. I think the idea was to give the audience an idea as to why the future Strickland was so strict, but it was ultimately decided to be too dark for the tone of the movie and removed before release.

I'm sure someone has mentioned that there was a BTTF animated series in the '90s. I thought it was pretty clever that they had a built-in "hook" at the end of BTTF 3 -- Two kids, Jules and Verne, plus a more anthropomorphic Einstein, for child watchers to identify with. They had Christopher Lloyd in live-action sequences to demonstrate some scientific principle that came into play in each episode, like Bill Nye the Science Guy. And I started thinking of the Tannens as the Universal Constant, as there was a Tannen of some sort in every era they visited. There was even a T. rex Tannen!

I always loved the ice machine, ironically the worlds first fridge was patented in 1883 / 1885, it used ether which has a tendency to explode at room temperature, the ice cubes colour was described in the novella, due to the high amount of iron found in the water of Hill Valley, it was a mining town, so the natural springs that fed the towns water supply had run off from the iron veins, the Doc needed things to occupy his time without corrupting the timeline, so it was his way of blowing off steam!
@brianstraight9308
@brianstraight9308 3 жыл бұрын
I don't remember the bit about iron in the water being the reason for the discoloration of it from the novel (but it has been like 30 years since I've read it (!)) I had always just figured the discoloration of the water (and the ice cube) was because it was well water so just filled with dirt/sand/and other minerals and junk that they obviously no means of filtering out like we do today. I do remember from the book when Marty is served the water by his Great-Great Grandmother him being confused by the color of the water and thinking he'd accidentally been served weak chocolate milk.

Sam, this was actually my favorite of the three. When they made the first, there was no real plans for any squeals, but they left it open in case. The second and third movie were filmed with no break between them to save money. If you ever would consider to dive into an untouched area of the first time watching a movie reaction, I would be willing to send you a list of movies from the 40's to the 60's my wife and I love watching. Everyone of the channels where the person is reviewing movies all seem to only be looking at movies from the mid 70's on, no one is tapping into the older movies. My favorite bit of this movie is how we meet Marty's great-granddad Seamus, the only McFly we've seen who isn't a hothead like Marty or a nerd like George or Marty Jr., and since he's a very level-headed guy and sure of who he is he manages to teach Marty to not be so easily provoked and baited and helps him become a better version of himself. I always thought that was a cool bit they threw in there. Another cool bit is how Buford Tannen calls Marty "dude" several times, especially when baiting him to fight, because back then "dude" was slang for an effeminate guy who dresses funny or puts too much thought into his appearance, instead of the way it is used now as slang for guy, man or bro. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the guy who plays Biff, Griff and Mad Dog is a really nice guy in real life and used to feel bad for the way he had to act towards the other characters, especially the scenes where Biff harasses Lorraine, because he hated behaving like that even if it was only acting.

Bit of trivia: you may have noticed that Marty's great-great-grandmother was played by Lea Thompson, the same actor who played his mother. Said ancestor is paternal, given that she's a McFly. To explain this resemblance, Zemeckis & Gale handwaved it by saying "McFly men tend to favor very similar women."

I actually like this movie better than the second one because it has better character development. I think the second one is liked more because it's different, they show their idea of the future, but it's kinda just gimmicky to me. Its still awesome, but the 3rd one really develops the relationship between Doc and Marty more. Marty finally learns that he shouldn't be afraid of being seen as a coward and we get to see Doc learn a few life lessons. It also brings up some deeper ideas of the consequences of time travel and what a time traveler would have to sacrifice so as not to screw things up, in this case it was love and happiness. Obviously this is quickly tossed aside because he stayed behind, but at least it was brought up. With that said, they're all awesome and I can definitely see why people prefer one over the other.

Another fantastic trio of movies that has many reoccurring gags/scenes/themes/lines is the "Blood & Ice Cream Trilogy" otherwise known as the "Cornetto Trilogy" which is comprised of "Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz", and "The World's End". While not a true trilogy in that the plots do not at all connect, all of them are truly great movies on their own and together they are even better. They are definitely worth watching/reacting to (assuming you haven't seen them already of course).

And I only saw the 1st one because my grandparents had cable and recorded it so by the time I saw the 1st one the 3rd one was being released on video and my dad rented it from the videostore. I dont think I saw the 2nd movie until years after when I realized there was 3 different movies

1) Yes, all Biffs (young & old), Griff, and "Mad Dog" - are all played by the same actor. This was his first big booking, pretty amazing how he created one of the most iconic character villains who you love to hate. 2) The train was, in fact, a miniature. But it wasn't no Hot Wheels size thing, it was a pretty "big" miniature, if I remember correctly. 3) I don't see the ending as vague. Everything wrapped up and the Delorean was destroyed. The director said that as long as he's alive, he wouldn't allow this franchise to be remade or more sequels, which I appreciate because it preserves the nostalgia in the best way. 4) Depending on who you ask, I've heard different people say that each of the parts is their "favorite" of the trilogy. So, I guess more than anything that proves how popular and good these movies are. Everyone has their favorite, but they're all very good and entertaining movies. So, collectively together, the trilogy is just all around great.

Fair on all points; thanks for commenting! I guess I didn’t mean it was vague really, I just meant that I could see there being potentially room where they justify a 4th one.

Hi Sam, I'm so happy that you decided to watch the third installment after all. It was great to watch with you and see your reaction as usual. Here's a little known fact, filming had to be stopped for a while as Michael J. Fox was actually being hanged by accident. The fake noose wasn't fastened properly. Anyway, thanks for the video and for being so welcoming to all of us. Do you have a PO Box at all? Best wishes from the UK 👍😄

You know, there's a huge plot-hole to this movie: Clara was supposed to die falling into the ravine , so there really isn't a good reason why Doc shouldn't just take her back to 1985. In fact, following his own logic he HAS to remove her from the timeline since she's not supposed to be alive anymore, so his only other choice was to kill her.

A couple things: 1) even though I'm glad they didn't make a 4th movie, they did sort of continue the story. There was a point and click adventure game, and the story picks up where the trilogy left off. It starts off with Marty and his dad dealing with Doc's estate after he "disappeared", then the Delorean (yes, the car, not the train) shows up with Einstein inside but no Doc, and Marty has to find out what happened. The story unfolds into what is essentially chapters 4 and 5 of this saga. Again, it wouldn't have made for a good movie, but also they did a good job of adding more lore to the whole thing without it seeming like a cash grab. There are some KZfaq videos that have compiled the cut scenes together, it's not a great format for watching, and probably wouldn't make for a very good reaction video, but if you're really curious how things went for Doc after all this, they're worth seeking out.

10:17 In 1955, Marty was able to improvise a _skateboard_ on pavement. It allowed him to outwit _Biff_ Tannen. In 2015, Mart discovered the _hoverboard,_ the apparent _successor_ to the skateboard, which allowed him to outwit Biff Tannen's _grandson,_ Griff. But this is 1885. There are _no_ skateboards. There is no _pavement._ Marty will need help. 10:26 And here it comes.

At the drive-in when Marty says "Clint Eastwood never wore anything like this" Doc "Clint Who?" and Marty replies "That's right, you haven't heard of him yet" and he points. He's pointing to the movie posters for "Return of the Creature" and "Tarantula!" both of Clint Eastwood's first films, in which he had minor, uncredited roles.

See? You still had fun rewatching! I had fun watching you too, despite my fear about what appears to be an anthropomorphic banana off to your left on the shelf. The smile doesn't fool me; those things are notoriously ill-tempered! Ya know, as much as everyone loves to hate Biff, I think Thomas F Wilson did a fine job with his portrayals of the different iterations, and he must've had a blast doing it. A twist not added until the third film, Buford is notoriously stupid. In the previous films, he was mainly mean. But in III, he loses count in his countdown to killing Marty, has to ask one of his gang what forfeit means, and, when told by one of his gang they're robbing the stage, he asks, "What are we doing Monday?" The juxtaposition of a business-like schedule to an ornery gang of outlaws is so funny. You were right about the eggshells, and here's something no one ever mentions about the DeLorean getting pulverized by the train: Well, despite the fact I doubt a car with an engine in it would break apart so easily, interesting how the conductor on the train just kept happily chugging along. "Oh, we destroyed a car...whatever...what's for lunch?" See? You're a bucket of fun even when you've seen the movie! :) Can't wait till your next reaction.

I had to buy it when I saw it because I actually HATE bananas and that’s a whole kind of thing in my community on Twitch; they know my hatred for bananas and always tease me about it so 😭 But yeah I’m glad you enjoyed! Thomas Wilson is truly a great actor for this, 100%. He did an amazing job with each character and it was truly a joy bringing to life some really funny moments! Again, I’m glad you enjoyed this reaction and all my others. You’ve been a gem and I always enjoy reading your fun comments!! Thanks for being awesome.
