I'm really happy Ben had such a positive experience. But it's VERY important to realize that his experience may be different than yours. Six weeks and back to hitting it hard again is not something that most people will experience with a broken ankle. In Ben's case, he might have only had a minor break and he, of course, is in good physical shape. Your mileage may vary. I broke my ankle in 3 different places. I believe I fast tracked my recovery too but it wasn't anywhere near as fast as Ben. I broke my ankle on January 21st. Had surgery on February 1st. Was totally NON weight bearing under doctor's orders for 7 weeks AFTER surgery. I've since transitioned from full crutches to the boot to regular shoes in about 3 weeks. I'm now walking without any restriction but the idea of running isn't going to be happening anytime soon. I get tired easily. My doctor says it may be a full year before I really feel totally normal again. Realize that we are all different. We are all different ages. We are all in various degrees of general health. Ben was working on weight bearing after 4 weeks. That isn't usual. Ben believes he will be running in 2 weeks after his last meeting with his doctor. That is very unusual. If you've gone through this terrible process (you have my pity), be gentle on yourself. Watch all the videos you can find. Work up a reasonable expectation for your recovery. Some might fast track as quickly as Ben did but don't expect that will happen for most because it won't.

same happened to me, 3 surgeries, 5 ligaments broken, and full dislocation… i was a ultra runner, maybe not my absolute top fitness but I was quite hardcore even for most ppl standards…still got injured while doing small jump (stone under leaves, uncontrolled rotation ftpm literally 50 cm).

Yep. Ben kind of overreacted to his break since it really wasn't that major. There are plenty of worse breaks that require months of rehab and are much more likely to impact long term function. For people dealing with bimalleolar, trimalleolar and open fractures, hang in there. You most likely will NOT be running after 2 months.

Excellent Ben! Hope you can get back to running soon, take it slow and easy! Would be interested in some resistance band workout videos my ankles get tight sometimes. I'm back to running again as said previously, it's going very well with the summer weather we've had recently, not much different except yielding to all pedestrians for social distancing by running on middle of road, since there are no cars there it's safer than usual, less noise and pollution, picking quieter routes in general. Take care!

Ben, I sprained my ankle in late January. I've been back to running for a few weeks, and I'm loving it more than ever. One thing I can say is it's going to be hard. You might not be as fast, and it's going to take time to get back to where you were. But the motivation and good feeling that comes with being able to run again will get you through anything. Ben I have really enjoyed these. Your path to recovery has paralleled mine even if the reasons are totally different. I was training for Edinburgh when, suddenly, I could no longer walk, let alone run, due to massive joint pain. This was a side effect of treatment I am having (very long story). Eventually managed to do some walking on treadmill. Last week I managed to run again without pain. Today I managed 3 miles in my very small garden. Totally ecstatic as doctors could not tell me whether I would be able to run again. My time? 1hr 40min. Slow, but I could not care less! Now looking forward to training again for my third marathon. When it will be I cannot say as I am having to 'shield' and I doubt I will be able to take part in mass participation event for a while. But now I know that I will eventually. And it will be an amazing feeling. I think it just makes me appreciate everything more. Mate, I shared your pain, now I am sharing your joy!

Currently got the Adidas Ultraboost 19, yet think the lifespan is on the way out so looking to upgrade ahead of London Marathon training again - Only looking to get the one pair of running shoes rather than having a set of rotation shoes... On this basis would you recommend the Pegasus 36 or Turbo 2 shoes? - Cant decide and question if the latter will last a reasonable duration what with the price tag?

Sarah just retired a pair of turbo 1's at 1000 miles.. I usually get about 1000k from them, which is still pretty good. The turbo 1 is a little heavier, but a bit more supportive than the 2's. If you can find some 1's then go for those I'd say! Good luck at London!

So I’m going through the same injury now. I’m 4 weeks and 2 days out from surgery. You healed so quickly! I’ve been taking so many supplements but I’m wondering if you had any secrets to a fast recovery. So hopeful I can walk again in 15 days !

Yes I am but my leg was broken in 4 different spots on the fibula. It was a long recovery and I’m just now starting to feel better almost 11 months later. I hope you didn’t have a bad injury!

Good luck you will notice a big difference after about 12 weeks total. That’s when i started walking. The issue for me is I had so much leg atrophy it took months to come back using elliptical. So when i started walking it was with a huge limp and took a lot of physical therapy to even get limited range of motion back

This is so depressing to watch... 11 weeks after a surgery and I still can't put weight through my leg, not to mention walking without crutches. Stuck inside the entire time because I can't go down 8 flights of stairs

I came across this, with him crying , I fell whilst out with my dog middle of nowhere, I knew soon as was bad heard audible crack and heavy feeling. totally displaced my ankle and fractured 7 bones including tib and fib, I had an operation done by specialist, have 2 plates numerous screws and pins. I had 45 staples closing the sites. I also stopped breathing so lost a day, I was up on frame same day and crutches with physio. Had appt at fracture clinic, had a new lightweight cast, two weeks later got put into boot.i was in hospital from 3 rd- if December until 10 th I was supposed to be in two weeks but as was coping let me go. I then had to inject myself twice a day to prevent clots due to not being mobile ! That was fun haha.So over all lot worse than this guy
