The hard-nosed Amarillo territory of yesteryear can have its roots traced to one man... Dory Funk, Sr. A star in the ring and a highly respected promoter and owner, Dory Sr. churned out talents that would go on to be superstars both in the ring and as bookers. Texans looking for no-frills pro wrestling in the mid-century looked no further than Dory's towns.
But an even more remarkable thing happened as Dory Sr. gave the world to strapping young bucks that would not only go on to national prominence as a tag team but also both became NWA World Champions. This feat is unprecedented and one of those sons, Terry Funk, is there to take us back in time to the Amarillo territory of the Funk family.
Join our resident mad scientist, Jim Cornette, and get ready to hop in and hit another territory of the past!!!

@@That90sShow 1) The video was made when he was very much alive, obviously. Terry was aware it would be used to generate profit for KC and was/is paid accordingly. 2) The video was behind KC’s paywall until yesterday. The sleazy thing would have been to run a “special discount subscription” to see it. Instead, he released it free, and on viewers like me that pay for YT Premium, he isn’t even getting any ad hits from it. Go schedule your rectal-cranial extraction and as was said…touch grass.

A true legend. I first started watching wrestling as a kid about 79-80 GCW. Terry was funny but kind of scary as he seemed crazy as hell. I saw him and Dory Jr several times in Fl and they were kind of my favorite bad guys. It is jarring to see his earlier work on YT as he wrestled scientific and was a face. RIP Terry.

There are only a very few wrestlers that not only wrestled for over 50 years and across 6 different decades but were over with the fans for 50 years. Terry won the world championship in 1975, just think about that especially considering i was born in 1984, so I grew up watching him in wcw and the early ECW days. He is a legend to at least 3 generations. He was my grandfathers favorite wrestlers in the 70s.

Such an entertaining and legendary wrestler. Tough as nails with a kind heart, one of those crazy older guys that inspired so many young people by being tougher and braver than men decades younger. Terry in ECW was like a legendary sensei, him being older just made it even more inspiring. Also the ring gear in later life was so iconic, the striped tights, bandana and Funk U shirt, a classic look for an enduring legend. Incredible life and legacy.

It is amazing to see how reserved Cornette is with Mr. Funk. Normally on his podcast or even in other KC videos you can't get him to shut up or keep on topic with an answer, which we all love no shade thrown in this comment. You can just see and hear the reverence Mr. Cornette has for Funk and when Terry starts asking him "How did that happen. why was that?" Jim has the answer and Terry is amused and agrees. RIP to a legend. Let's hope Corney out lives Russo simply because Jimmy has more worth and that is on full display here when a legend like Terry Funk even recognizes Jim Cornettes knowledge and respect for wrestling.
