In this video I discuss everything about the backcountry bidet. I talk about what it is, why you would want to use one, and how to use it! If you're not comfortable with poop talk, this might not be the video for you, if not, check it out, and discover how great the backcountry bidet can be!

Great video! 😄💩TIP: Prepping the area with a squirt of water BEFORE going helps keep the poop from sticking. (And may help wake you up if the water is cold ; - ). A drop of concentrated soap gets rid of more bacteria and viruses than hand sanitizer and weighs less (also multipurpose for dishes and laundry).Air drying (with pants on ; - ) works surprisingly well.

backpacking bidet hack: don’t want to carry a designated extra water bottle for your bidet? use the little blue sawyer squeeze bladder that is included and everyone throws away as your dedicated bottle. it stores flat in your backpack when you’re not using it, provides the right amount of water needed, squeezes out strong and stands upright when full of water

Ohhh I would never have thought of that! All mine have been tossed at this point, but I like it! Not too floppy when using it? Still easy to aim? 😂

Awesome video! I bought a Culo clean and was wondering about the right routine, this is quick and to the point. One change I'd suggest: Bring either light soap sheets or powdered soap (plenty of backpacking-friendly solutions out there) for cleaning your hand, hand sanitizer does not remove all types of viruses/bacteria.

Yes, soap instead of hand sanitizer is definitely safer when poop is involved. Ultra-concentrated soap (like to Sea to Summit's plain or citronella Wilderness Wash) is also more versatile per ounce for dishes, clothes, and bathing. You only need a drop vs. a quarter-sized amount of hand sanitizer. Spraying a little water on your but pre-poop also helps !

A "pro-tip" for the Kulo Clean bidet cap. Always keep track of the water outlet...especially in the dark...by scribing a mark on the bidet cap and fill it with ink from a silver sharpie or whiteout or paint. ...that helps keeping it off your leg, which isn't fun when it's really cold out!

Thank you for being specific! This is a great idea for anyone, not just hikers. Will need to see how doable this is for hiking skirts/dresses/kilts (which do add some extra privacy and some of us love them for looks/comfort - but then wonder about bidet splashing.).🌿Im not 100% on board with leaves, sticks, stones cause I picture tearing, rashes, ants, poison oak, mice feces, etc. Not sure yet what a safer first step could be. Carrying a small bag of twigs that were sanded/cleaned before or some sorta washable scraper/spatula - like I saw someone had a poo spatula on their baby's changing table. Dunno, will think on it. I think a comment below suggests old corn cobs unless theyre being sarcastic.🌿As for sanitizer, videos tend to suggest that. It's very flammable (so flammable can be used as an alcohol stove), can dry skin out to where it gets itchy rash after awhile, works best on cleaned and dried skin then enough to really get it wet then air dry, and I hear doesn't get as many germs as soap. So Im more into the idea of washing hands/wrists/nails well with nature-safe soap and water 2 Happy Birthdays then rinse off from wrists so it all flows off fingertips, not back on arms. Air-drying is fine. Between that and the bidet guess that's more water and weight to carry, hmm. But both do help prevent health issues and odors (and nice for partners). Been thinking a tiny bottle or spray bottle of soapy water for hands could be good, then clean water to rinse. Way less water used than a sink left running as hands are washed too.🌿

I find that a teaspoon a day of psyllium husk, such as Metamucil, makes it much cleaner and easier. No “heavy lifting”, easy squirt with the bidet or wipe with a single square.

Learning to use a bidet. It's a little more of a challenge as I don't have a gallbladder. I don't squat. I use a backpacking stool, with a hole cut in the seat. Dig cathole, set stool over hole. At the end of the day, I have a stool for sitting around camp

I lost my Culo clean and found that a small hole drilled or melted into the neck of a plastic bottle works the same. I always have one with me and even keep one in my bike bag.

Good, down to earth information. I use two squares and pack them out in a separate little ziploc bag. No bidet for me-too complicated. Plus I don't want to have to carry extra water, not knowing when the urge will strike. Also, like others have said, if you're going to use a bidet it's really better to clean your hands with soap, not hand sanitizer. Of course, if I start suffering from monkey butt (hole area chaffing) I'm sure I'll change my tune!

I have bidet toilet seats in my residence. TP is barbaric. I got a free bidet cap just like yours from GGG a couple weeks ago. I plan on using it next weekend, 9-24-22 on a short overnighter on the AT in Pa.

I used to hike with a guy that served in the military and he swore that greasing your hole with Vaseline beforehand eliminated the need to wipe. I've not confirmed this.

In addition to the bidet nowadays there is already biodegradable gloves. So if your not comfortable using your bare hands to do the final clean then that's the solution.

Most wet wipes aren’t biodegradable, so you don’t want to bring them backpacking unless you plan on packing them out. They’ll clean you better than regular tp, but you can’t bury them. Luckily the bidet means not burying any tp or (especially not) wet wipes!

I actually safe some of my hot coffee water and add a drop of biodegradable soup. Things always move after coffee 😂. The warm water is bliss cleans better and the leftover soapy water is a good finisher hand wash. Then apply hand sanitizer. My 2cents. Great video!

Hi Justin. I sent an email to the address in your profile. I'm with an outdoor products company and we have a new product in the realm of what you are reviewing here and we were curious to see if you wanted to take a look at it. At this point we're not looking for any public reviews - it's mostly to get preliminary feedback from people familiar with this need and usage (which clearly you are!). Once we release the item you would be more than welcome to review it on your channel if you wanted. Anyway, I wasn't sure my email went through so thought I'd try here. If you're interested, please see if you can find that email or let me know the best way to reach you. If you'd rather pass on this, no problem. Thanks for your consideration.

Not a bad video, I think people are a little shy about using the bidet and they really shouldn't be. It's great! I also use the cu-lo-clean but I try to avoid using flora or rocks to wipe my rectum (pre wash). For me, I am pretty 'regular' with my bowel movements. I find that carrying one glove per day of being out there is far better than finding sticks/rocks/leaves to do the initial clean up. Unfortunately you now have to carry this biohazard with you and adding two baggies and gloves comes with a weight penalty but it's not that much of a difference that I never notice the added weight. A small locsak with a bag inside of the locsak with little bit of poo powder (bio gel) distributed throughout the baggy works great and will control odors. The weight penalty is 3.25oz for my entire kit for five days of backcountry pooping. Sure, you can can save a few ounces by using things within the environment like a leaf/rock/stick but this may lead to a nasty rash, scrap or even an allergic reaction. Pro-tip, for some added comfort? Warm your water before your warsh down as it's a little bit more comfortable than 50-60º water. Worth mentioning though, the cold water shot to your anus will add a little pep to your step in the morning time! Obviously this is just what I do I am by no means criticizing your video, just a different perspective. Dang, that's a lot of words for a discussion on bowel movements. Subbed. Thanks for the upload!
