Totally agree, when you feel the need to announce it or use it as your calling card....beware. I did a lot of work on a car and when the customer was presented with the bill exactly as estimated, "the response was, Is that the Christian price?" my blood boiled.....no additional discount was given. You can't extrapolate this or any story into all of a class of people....but the point remains as you stated, beware the announced person.

I buy swap sell and flip lawn tractors here on KZfaq. Could not agree more the scam in my area is "Can I pick it up on the way to church and I will drop the money off to you on Monday I promise"

Keep the content going Rob! Great stories. Been subbed for ages. I had a similar instance pulled on me when I was selling off a 2000 green Ford Taurus I was flipping 5 years ago. A "preacher" was wanting to pay me with a "check" for a $2500 car. Informed him it was cash and carry - whether you're the pooper scooper or the preacher. Never heard from him again. Wire transfers, Zelle, Venmo etc are so much better these days.

We definitely grew up in the same place Rabbit.

I took a bad check once. Had an ad in The Nickle for a pool table. Lady came to my house in one car and her brother and a buddy in his pickup. As soon as they left I went to my bank to deposit the check. The teller got a funny look on her face and asked me if I knew the person who wrote, etc, and that there were Non Sufficient Funds. SO I grabbed the check, hopped in my car, and sped to the end of town laid in wait. Sure enough pickup with a pool table in the back came down the road! I pulled out and followed the guy waving for him to pull over which he did. When I told him the check bounced he shook his head, pulled out his wallet, and handed me CASH! Had I not caught up to him I woulda been SOL but nevertheless I learned a very valuable lesson

A good christian doesn't have to run around announcing it. They let their actions speak for themselves, and get a reputation as a good person. 15-20 Years back the only guy I ever had to sic a lawyer on (for about 10k) had scripture painted on the wall of his office. I did prevail and our business relationship did not. I always was leery of that scenario. I hadn't ever been in his office until the day he tried to pull it on me. Seeing it made me call my lawyer within a minute of leaving his office. Your warning rings true as a bell. Thanks for sharing

I worked freelance in highschool, I did some artwork digitally and of course, requested payment. I didn't charge anything crazy, i think the biggest price tag I ever tossed out was like.. maybe 100 bucks? And I had a guy wanting me to do him art for this ice cream company he was trying to open called Ice Scream Ice Cream. It was for some little roach coach idea he had (food truck) and I was to do the artwork. Well he and I hammered the details out over the span of.. probably three weeks or so and when we were finished with everything he wanted to run the final draft by his backer, ie his mother who had chipped in on this business of his. Again, piece is finished, coloring shading, the whole shooting match; I watermarked the piece before sending it out and he went off to show his backer. Came back a day later requesting a near complete re design based solely on the ORIGINAL payment of 100 dollars, the workload he'd thrown out was pushing equal to an entire second project in the 100 dollar price range, easily. At that point things had started to get shady though, details were changing real quick, constantly redesigning aspects that'd been approved previously and FINISHED previously and there was more than one point it was requested to remove the watermark so he could "better see the image". mind you this is a paid commission that I'd only taken partial payment on. Half up front, half at the end. In the end I ended up telling the guy the deal, said I was done doing business with him as I'd fulfilled my part of the deal and washed my hands of the mess. Maybe he was okay, maybe he was a scammer, but i aint doing 200 dollars worth of work on a 100 dollar budget for someone I don't know from adam

This story hits home. I drove a log truck for a man who owned a logging company. On my very first pay check I noticed that there was a "Jesus fish" with the phrases "Jesus loves you" and "Doing the Lord's work". Long story short I had to argue on every check because of shorted loads/hours then the checks started bouncing. I'm not saying anything bad about religious people but I am saying watch those who project a perfect image through religion and mix it with business. I had to sue to get my money as well and only when the state threatened to take his agricultural license did he pay me.
