@@brendanmunoz8971 that was partly due to Barney Visser going all in on the JGR/TRD partnership so they could win a championship. He put all of his eggs in one basket and it caused the team to have to shut down. Also after his heart attack I think he didn't want to continue owning a race team.

They made the final 4 in 2015 with a Chevy, so yeah it helped but let’s not act like they were nobodies before then.

More like Cole Pearn. Truex made the Championship 4 in 2015 with Pearn in what was an RCR affiliated car. Toyota helped solidify them as a threat, but without Pearn probably none of it would have happened

It was also a breakout season for him as well! After the 10 team was in a deep deep hole from Danica, Aric got them where they needed to and all four SHR drivers made the playoffs last year! That alone honestly shows how god awful Danica was in that car.

It's also worth mentioning his girlfriend Sherry was dealing with ovary cancer and treatment during this season, Truex didn't handle the news and stress well in 2014. In 2015 though it seemed to motivate him more than anything, if she can beat back this awful disease and endure chemo then surely I can turn my career around and do her proud And that's why he's one of my favorites...it reads like a genuine fairytale and I love it

It's amazing in retrospect how fans assumed that his move to Furniture Row was viewed as the death nell for his once promising career. It was yet another career reset for him and he had a very steep learning curve with equipment that was below what he was used to at DEI and MWR, but it was a step on the rocky road that culminated in his championship win in 2017. I always feel it best to look back at where someone has come from, how good they've become, rather than how bad they've become (like how Richard Petty's career withered away after his 200th win, to the point that by 1988 he was below 25th in the standings)

When Truex went to the 78 in 2014 I honestly thought his career was done. The only competitive season for Furniture Row was in 2013 with Kurt Busch, who has shown to outperform poor equipment. Little did I know what was about to happen with that team.

@@allabouthewaves4354 let's not forget Vickers was in on it too. He made an intentional unscheduled pit stop because he was told too. And at the end of the day it was all to benefit Truex anyways, not hurt him. But that is true, Truex did wind up getting the better end of the stick with the championship and winning seasons. Plus Bowyer payed for it by having a miserable season driving pos HScott equipment, and now with Stewart-Haas he's still just as mediocre as he's always been.

So, I have an idea for a future video for you. A good/bad season all in the same year. Ward Burton 2002. A season produced two wins, a few other top fives, but a ton of DNF's. And of course, the Dale Jr. Bristol Excursion

At least the crew guys let Truex go over and talk to Kyle in that situation, if it were any other driver, they would have tried to fight him. Crew guys always seem to want to intervene with driver confrontations.

i feel like you buried the lead here a bit. Furniture Row was coming off a playoff berth with kurt busch, who left for SHR and who made todd berrier look better than he actually did. It wasn't until they made the switch to cole pearn that they made turnaround.

Truex wasn't a victim of Spingate. He was the intended beneficiary of Spingate. If Newman won the race, Truex would've been bumped out. So Ty Norris relayed orders for Bowyer to spin and Vickers to pit. Giving Truex enough spots and screwing Newman out of the win.

Imo he's one of the feel good stories in Nascar history. Some guys peak late, he was always a good driver, his two wins prior weren't flukes or accidents. He just needed to find the right team and a crew chief who he gelled with.

His biggest problem early on was he was stuck with the money hungry driven death of DEI. The problems with MWR is they were mediocre at first and then as time went on they got really good, but Truex constantly choked away wins.

In 2014 for Martin Truex Jr has 0 wins 1 top 5 5 top 10's average finish of 20.2 and finished 24th in Standings in 2015 he bouncing back scoring a win at Pocono and making to the championship 4 in 2017 he won championship race at homestead and he's a NASCAR champion
