Dale Earnhardt Jr. has admitted on his podcast a couple of times that the Car Of Tommorow was his least favorite generation of car to drive, citing the inability to respond to adjustments and the car could go only drive a certain speed, in short Jr. was hampered by this era of racing. He did pick up a win at Michigan in 2012 though.

That was a rough season he had. I think it had to with the transition from the family business to a new team. He and Letarte worked great from 2011 to 2015. He showed good consistency in 2011-13 but had a couple slip ups. 2014 and 2015 were incredible and he clicked. No matter what I always stuck by his side and cheered for him every week since the summer of 2004.

Junior was always my favorite driver but he needed to have the best car or he didnt have a chance.. 2003 n 04 were his best chances to win a title. But I honestly don't understand how or why he was so awful in 2009 thru 2010..man he was so strong with Letarte ...after 06 it was hard to root for junior until 2011 when he started being competitive again..
@TheIceberg
@TheIceberg 6 жыл бұрын
The were seriously 10-12 races that year where Jr should have been in the top 5 or at least the top 10 but bad luck in the final 20% of the races took him out. I have no doubt with how weak the Chase field was that year that he would have made it. He wouldn't have been a factor but he would have been more respectable. Now 2010 is the year where he pretty much ran 20th every lap of every race.
@MattProtrains
@MattProtrains 6 жыл бұрын
His finishes during the chase races, even though he wasn't in the chase wasn't indicative of his performance. Had a top 5 car at New Hampshire; taken out by Reutimann, Kansas; started front row, led a chunk of the opening laps before the pit penalty killed the momentum, and afterwards the engine blew near the end. California; wreck, Texas; ran out of fuel and stalled on pit road. You could just sense even if the team fought back with a strong showing, something else would bite them before the end.

That's what I noticed: trouble often found Junior when he was doing well. I don't know if he would have made the Chase, but he'd probably have been around where Bowyer was (15th-ish), rather than down in the muck.
@snappy452
@snappy452 6 жыл бұрын
Thinking about Junior's career, it's pretty bittersweet from the outside. So much potential, and unfortunately so much disappointment intersected with moments of brilliance. So much happened around him that he could not truly affect. His father was such a mountain among men, a true legend who it almost seems fitting was taken before we could see him grow old. I wasn't a Junior fan, but I always had a pretty high opinion of him as a person and driver. If you think of how much he had to take on so soon, there's probably no way you could do better than he did. Managed to keep his head straight and did well outside of racing. Smart person. Just like his dad in that. As someone who was a Mark Martin fan and a 90's fan/kid, I'm sad to say I saw the sport live its apex being and then slowly die as the last of its true roots faded away. I hope a reset comes with Arthur France's dismissal.

2011 was good and 2012 was better, minus the concussion issues, and 2013 was extremely consistent despite not winning (would've won the title under the same circumstances with the 2014 format).
@evanwilliams6406
@evanwilliams6406 6 жыл бұрын
He was better in the 2010's than in the late 2000's. I think it had a lot to do with having Tony Eury there and having a completely different style than what Hendrick had with its employees and the communication wasn't there. Also having the COT wasn't good either, until they put the spoiler back on then Dale started running better, but it always seemed like it was something holding the team back. But the COT era was bad for a lot of drivers and affected their careers as a result.
@RacingWorldTV202
@RacingWorldTV202 6 жыл бұрын
Evan Williams Definitely. Jeff Gordon is another driver I can think of who struggled, Kevin Harvick (110-some race winless streak between 2007 and 2010), Jeff Burton (only one win, his last, in the COT era), Ryan Newman (only two wins the COT era, one on an SS and one on strategy). Those are some examples but the car definitely affected many drivers but Jr also with the demise of DEI added in as a big factor, I'd argue with how depressed he seemed. The spoiler was a big helper, though, for sure.

Dale Earnhardt Jr had a challenging season in 2009, struggling to find success on the track. He failed to win a race that year and finished a disappointing 25th in the overall points standings. Earnhardt Jr faced multiple issues throughout the season, including consistency problems and mechanical failures. He also had several crashes and accidents that further hindered his performance. The lack of success and poor finishes resulted in a significant drop in the championship standings compared to previous years. The struggles in 2009 were a disappointment for Earnhardt Jr and his fans, as he had previously been known for his strong performances and winning capabilities. However, it is important to note that every driver faces challenges and setbacks in their career, and 2009 was simply a difficult season for Earnhardt Jr.

Jeez dude Bowman is a young hotshot for this sport. No one even knew he existed in 2009. He started racing in 2014 and wasnt that good but now he is.

Bad seasons: Geoff Bodine in 1994. He won 3 races, but also had 15 DNFs. Half of the races that year. Most of the 15 DNFs he had were due to engine failures.

2009-2010, and parts of 2011 were a rough time to be a Dale Jr. fan. During that time, I thought for sure he would never win a race again.

'11 had promise, because after putting Letarte on the pit box, it turned the right direction. The whole 2010 season, the radio chatter between Jr made the team seem mostly dysfunctional. Letarte came in with a more positive outlook, that perked everybody up. They should've won at least 1 race, Martinsville, Coke 600, or Kansas were the ones were I hoped it could've happened. Actually the Coke 600 was a bit heartbreaking.

MBX Pictures ironically enough, 2011 was the year that I thought for sure he may never win again. Every time that Dale Jr. had a chance to win, something out of nowhere would happen, (blowing a tire coming out of the pits at Kentucky, running Out of fuel at The Coke 600, getting bumped out of the way at Martinsville). I came to expect it that whole year, ESPECIALLY after the Coke 600 😭

Yeah. This was worth kicking Mears off the team. If they kept him I believe he definitely would have had a better career.
@MattProtrains
@MattProtrains 6 жыл бұрын
No Mears was Jr's teammate for the first year, he was moved to the 5 team with the 25 becoming the 88. But I think due to having another team switch kept him on unstable grounds that he couldn't reconnect. Then Mark Martin came in, and out Mears went for 09. If they kept the same 25 team as the 5 team, I think maybe Mears would've found more success.
@CBF65
@CBF65 6 жыл бұрын
I agree, after Mears was finally doing well after he won Charlotte but then they switched him to the 5, they should’ve either (A) put Jr in the 5 for 2008 or (B) did like Byron and Chase for this year and kept the crew just changed numbers
@MattProtrains
@MattProtrains 6 жыл бұрын
No question, the 25 team was just about the best non-chase team in 07. If Mears stayed with that group, who knows where they'd go...not sure a championship would be in the picture, but maybe another win or two.
