The seat to seat duration does not change , but the duration at .050 which most cams are measured at does change with 1.6 rockers opposed to 1.5.

Wish I could get paid to do this stuff instead of just doing for a hobby 😆 What a nice job that would be lol, at least for me

There are great tools to check lifter & bore dimensions, but whats the best way to verify lifter bore centers are correctly aimed at camsgaft centerline? I think its worth asking because jigs in most shops align on mains as an initial reference point. A roller cam must avoid taper [even 0.1 degrees] to load lifter axles evenly.

Awesome inspection of the valve geometry. Would the same be used for full hydraulic roller plus .050?

Thank you, yes the same principle can be applied in that.

I liked the mapping of sweep also. Decks on aftermarket heads being thicker [and some spring pockets height being different on account of larger ports], that was a smart check. I have to admit I'm well enough satisfied with the sharpie method for my own ride, but I'm pretty good at eyeballing things. I wound up using 7.950" pushrods plus lash caps to suit my solid lifters last build..

I went big block years ago. Now if you put too much money in a small block you might as well go LS or big block Chevy. But the LS compared to the big block Chevy. I hate to say but the same cubic inch for both engines the ls makes more power, stronger and last longer. There's so many things that are better with most of these newer engines have the newer technology of thinner rings, roller cams, better flowing cylinder heads and more. In one way I hate they made the LS engine it devalued my small blocks and Big Block Chevrolet engines. One thing about the ls engines the piston rings are thin like older model imports that have ran those for years the blocks and rings don't wear out. So this saves a lot of time and money down the road without having to rebuild it consuming oil losing power overheating and everything goes downhill when rings and pistons don't seal and start to wear.

I have both. 72 camaro with a heads / cam ls3 and 79mm garret turbo . 68 camaro w no electronics save a 6al and an alternator. 406 solid roller NA hotrod . Both have their place i guess. The 72 has all the electronics ,4 link rear, coil overs all around, repetitive safety systems that keep me from pushing the ls3 too far under boost. Honestly, there is something comforting about the mechanical simplicity of the carbed 406 in the 68 . The 72 makes roughly twice the power in a much smoother car overall . Its just missing the hotrod soul I grew up with. That stinking, popcorn sounding SBC that tunes with steel tools , sparkplug reading , and seat of the pants feel just seems more real . Sorry about the rant. I'm freshening the 68 right now, then one of the 2 has to find a new home.........I change my mind everyday on which one , lol

Do you have the flow numbers on those heads at 100 thou, 200 thou, 300 thou, etc. lift? Do you need as much lift as you have?

It looks great!! Side note / thought... It is sooooo funny how mechanics communicate - I am sure it is just me - but I can tell you when I was the kids age that films these, I was one to put my foot in my mouth - old mechanics just do not joke around like “back at school” (high school). They got bills, a family, maybe a shop? Customers, last nights dinner bugging their stomach, they can’t wait for 5 o’clock to get here - some don’t typically wait till 5... mechanics are some “hon - ray” (prideful) -been doing this since before your daddy was even born “folks” - work in every environment in sometimes messy or frustrating conditions - that no one would help them figure out the problem... Just insight to any young guys out there - “honey goes a lot further than vinegar”... and joking around is only around “papa” ( maybe your father? - if he is a mechanic?) Just open thoughts - I have had a wrench in my hand since 5 years old

I was wondering the same thing. Like what if the cam is 4° out or the bearings have 0.005" clearance instead of 0.002" clearance?
