Art Nalls, a 65-year-old retired lieutenant colonel, may have given up flying jets for the Marines 20 years ago, but this gray-haired skybird still has the itch to fly. When he finds a retired Harrier jump jet for sale in England, he knows he has to have it. If he can make the deal happen, Art will become the first private citizen to ever own a Harrier.

I remember being about 10 years old ….about 1972, went to an air show with my dad and older brother, the Harrier did all its show pieces including a very low fly by then when the pilot had finished all its manoeuvres it faced the crowds hovering around 20 feet off the ground and took three bows in appreciation of the applause….👌🏻

It's that footage at the beginning were the Harrier crashed into the sea, was at Lowestoft air show (UK). The pilot tried to do the same thing, but messed up. He also broke his arm landing on the aircraft.

First off, it's always wonderful to see all manner of vehicles preserved for future generations to study, but the uniqueness of the 'Harrier JJ' will always bring gasps of astonishment. I sat in the pilot seat of a two-seater version, and that was an amazing experience in itself, but to fly an aircraft which can slow to a hover and have true VTOL capability must be such an incredible feeling for a pilot. Great filming on the video too, and good to see the appreciation for one of the most innovative inventions ever to come out of the UK. Best of luck to all involved in keeping the legacy of the Harrier JJ alive and well.

@GearHeadBoris

I've never seen a harrier come up for sale but the price is usually determined by how much time it has left on the maintenance items. I would expect a junk harrier to go for at least $300k and well over $1m for a flightworthy example

I went over with a few classmates and watched the event. We got a tour of the flight line and met some of the team working in the fligh test group. 40 years later I have worked on and flown a lot of different civilian aircraft my dream has always been to fly one of these.

I was confused as all helll...It just flew in, yet took 13 months to put it back in the Air....Sounds like an untrained crew working on this thing.

You think this Harrier would be certified to fly at Air Shows just because it looked pretty? Thirteen months would have been spent making sure the insides were just as pretty.

You idiots! Its just a manner of speaking. If they say it looked like it just flew in doesn't mean it did, they just point out that its in a very good state compared to others i guess.

As a young Marine, assigned to his first aviation squadron, at Cherry Point MCAS, I walked up to VMGR-252, a KC-130F squadron, and found the hangar next to ours, EMPTY. Very unusual to find during the war. Some squadrons had to share hangars. Eventually I was told that ALL personnel from that 'empty' squadron were in England, being trained on the first Harriers to be received by the Marine Corps. I guess they caught on. Congratulations and Thank You, Colonel Nalls !
