Honestly? As a 50-year-old man, the only time in my life I have -ever- genuinely cried at hearing of a rocker's demise was when Lemmy died. BUT. There was also happiness, knowing that this was a man who had never - EVER - sold out or diluted himself for public consumption in any way. And there is something utterly, timelessly glorious about that. 10% be sad he's gone, 90% celebrate the fuck out of the fact that he was here.

One of the best testimonials about Lemmy I have ever heard. Here's Henry Rollins...intelligent, vegetarian, no drugs, negative body fat and he's good friends with Lemmy and respectful of the man who drank a bottle of Jack Daniels each day for 30 years, speed, etc.. A different lifestyle, but HR recognized his honesty and Lemmy recognized HR's honesty.

One of the stories Lemmy himself used to tell was about when he saw the Beatles at the Cavern Club which was, so far from their cute image in the early '60s, they were actually pretty badass. He recalled that one guy in the crowd was heckling them and John Lennon stopped playing, came down into the crowd and head butted the offending person who then had a broken nose, was spitting out teeth and bled all over his face and front. The guy shut up and John returned back up to the stage. That impressed the hell out of Lemmy......
@noelmajers63694 жыл бұрын
@Martin Jensen indeed !
@noelmajers63694 жыл бұрын
@Martin Jensen it was originally the "Glasgow Kiss" but there are very strong ties between Liverpool and Glasgow (hence the "Rangers" "Celtic" call and response chants at the beginning of Liverpool games in the 70s and 80s to signify the Protestant and Catholic halves of Liverpool, respectively) so it doesn't surprise me that the term got borrowed, one way or the other. P.S. my family tree is from that strain and I have Northern Irish (many of whom trace their ancestry to Scotland) and Scottish relatives on both sides of the 'divide.' I beat myself up over it, occasionally...;-).

Lemmy and his sword. This wouldn't be the first legendary story about Lemmy's sword or dagger... A little known fact... The first time Keith Emerson stuck a dagger into his organ/synth (something that was a well-known part of his stage performance) was not with ELP but when he played in the band called the Nice. Keith had this idea that he wanted to stick a blade into his organ to hold down a note and just for the effect of using a knife onstage. Lemmy, who was a roadie at the time and was already a collector of Nazi paraphernalia and things of that sort, had a dagger with (I believe) the German cross on it and Keith wanted to use it. So Lemmy let him borrow it and that became a staple in Keith's act. This was also the inspiration for the surprisingly violent early Genesis song "the Knife."
