From my understanding, UN Village is a very upper class neighborhood in Seoul where quite a few celebrities/diplomats/business people/etc live.

UN Village is a very rich area of Seoul, Baekhyun recently bought a penthouse there.

UN Village is populated by diplomats, CEOs, and celebrities. At some point there were embassies there, not sure about now. Location-wise it’s on the Han River in central Seoul. It’s built on a hill and is known for its beautiful views.

I love this song so much. When the song came out, Baek was not living in UN Village yet, but it's like he manifested it to come true with this song. He moved to UN Village sometime in the middle of last year. Also living in UN Village are members of BTS, BigBang, Super Junior, Key from SHINee, Jennie, a member of 2pm etc.

Hey Kermon, Okay I just looked at the comments and nobody is mentioning why Baekhyun is singing about UN Village lmao So from my understanding UN Village sets itself apart from the rest of Seoul with modern architecture and rare open space from which the Han River can be seen. Many wealthy people live there so it's pretty exclusive which makes it a perfect place for many kpop idols to go for secret meet ups. So since dating is stupidly taboo in kpop or else a massive amount of immature fans lose their sh*t when it comes out that a kpop artist is in fact dating, UN Village is a place they can go to, to not be seen by the whiny "peasants" who have a problem with a kpop artist doing something that every adult should have the right to do (don't get me started lmao) So that's why in this video, Baek is kind of hiding in the shadows.

This is a very sexy song, and at 5:23 the song originally said "Girl, I need a bad woman to come here" but a few days after the release of the video the lyrics were changed to a cleaner version that says "Girl, we need to be romantic" and I know in my heart of hearts that Baekhyun gave them the side eye. 😂😂😂

Fun fact: UN Village (pronounced like U.N. Village -- like United Nations -- UN. Not unvillage.) is a real place in Korea. It's a ritzy, trendy neighborhood in Korea where some of the top celebrities and idols live. For example, some of the members of BigBang and SHINee have, or used to have, apartments/condos in UN Village. (I think even Baekhyun now lives in the UN Village area.) The area is known for its cool architecture and landscapes, and I think some of this MV was either shot in UN Village or, at the very least, the sets were meant to emulate the look of UN Village. So Baekhyun has said that the song is supposed to make listens feel like they want to take their date to UN Village and wander through the streets and buildings while whispering words of love in their ear, etc. "UN Village" and this album City Lights is Baekhyun's solo debut. He kind of surprised all of us with this one. Before the song was released, we all were trying to guess what kind of style and sound his first album was going to have. And, although this style totally makes sense for him, I don't think many were anticipating it would be quite this soulful. However, since then, all of Baekhyun's albums have been heavily R&B based. Also, as you may remember, Baekhyun's superpower is the ability to control light. So, although "UN Village" is a love song and he is singing to and about a girl and about her light, the lyrics are also referencing the fact that his superpower is the ability to control light. The lyrics have a double meaning -- it's about love, but it's also about how he can literally turn off the street lights with his powers. That is why this MV has so many references to spotlights and shadows and light and dark and why you see the shadow of lamps with bare light bulbs, and why it's in black and white, etc. Hence, one reason why the album is called City Lights, which obviously also references his power. LOL As with almost everything EXO does, the red light is thought to represent the Red Force and blue represents EXO. So the scenes that are red could be instances where the Red Force is in control and the scenes in blue are when Baekhyun has the upper hand. Also take note of the giant map he is looking at hanging on the wall in this MV. When you eventually get to watch EXO-CBX's MV for their song "Horololo," you will see what many think is that same map hanging on the wall in the office Chen, Baekhyun and Xiumin are in in their "Horololo" MV. The scene with Baekhyun laying on the table still hasn't been explained, but it is thought that it will eventually become important to connect something to do with EXO's storyline in the future. As you know, everything EXO does is connected to the group's concept and storyline. This song and MV is an example of how even EXO's solo projects are part of the story. Even as soloists, they can't escape the fact that they are members of EXO. So, "UN Village" and City Lights is supposed to have an evening theme and his follow up song "Candy" and Delight repackaged album, is supposed to be daytime/daylight. It all is meant to play off of each other. :D The two albums are as different as night and day.

Yes, UN Villiage is a neighborhood in Seoul, but everyone is missing the point. Baekhyun is singing about using that neighborhood as his secret place to park with a date and "look at the moon." The "rolling, rolling, hills" may have a double meaning. He's not singing about the architecture or the landscape.
