This took forever, but it's finally done. So what went wrong? Machines broke down, gravel company kept cancelling, weather and a host of other things along with us being home so Tom and I could be there. We got it done though. Here we talk about the dimensions, excavating, adding a culvert and ditches, combination of gravel and finally... how much you can expect it to cost. At the very end we even unbox our new steel targets from Action Target and shoot a little bit. If you are wondering about how much gravel we used, then your best bet is to go to a gravel companies website and use the calculator for how much you'll need. Insert your depth and width and how many inches you want and it will tell you right there. That's what the companies use anyway.

I’ve had an over 200acre range for about 25 years now, it started with a very small bay and has grown and has over a million dollars of work in it at this point. We see 600-1000 shooters a week and I’m so happy to be in the position i am, it’s an insane amount of work and time to do it.

That is a huge and professional shooting range! 5 years ago I did the same, sold my house in the city and move to the country. Bought a nice little house with a few acres of land, and build my own shooting range. Thanks for taking the time to show and break this down. You’re right that there isn’t much out there in this. Seems like the majority of areas there is a significant shortage of places where one can simply go and get some range time in. Limited number of facilities and the super long and closed waiting lists that take years with some fun clubs is beyond frustrating. Indoor ranges have their own host of issues and limitations as well to include what caliber you can run and really limited to only pistols. Really makes me appreciate growing up in the mountains that had no shortage of old strip mining sites that were ideal for even long guns reaching out 700-800 yards.
