Hi I’m looking to buy a 750w how is the battery, motor after 2 years use

Still great. During the last winter I didn’t ride it as much after putting 1000 miles on it. When I decided to ride it again it appeared the battery wasn’t charging up fully. So I rode it a couple of times and recharged it. The second charge was better. Finally the last charge was back to normal. It was stored at 50% charge over the winter. I recently acquired a retro Columbia bike. It’s a remake of a 50’s model remade in the 80’s. Ive actually neglected the eBike since getting this retro bike. Anyway, no issues with the conversion.😎

@@comfortablynumb8832 No I didn't. I did replace the chain, new brake pads, and ebike rated tires. I just ride like a cruiser so not a lot of shifting etc.

I will try and do an update video on this bike, been going strong for nearly 2 years now! That is without pedaling, to be honest anything above about 30kms/hr with peddling is a bit useless, its just too quick for your legs to keep up.

That sounds a little low. What is the range of gears on your rear cassette?

I would probably go geared otherwise you will put too much stress and work on the motor when going up steep hills. I still find I need to treat it as if the motor wasn't there to get the best results..

bro. I have the 750w kit. Love it. However, know that you will have to DIY the DIY things. It took me and my dad three days to install. Maybe it's cus we were a little unorthodox, but still. Also, you may not even need to have it go at its 34mph speed. For me, 26mph is more than enough. I bought the 750w because of the amount of torque it has. I plan on going uphill a lot. It's pretty good.

@@niceboy761 I got all my materials from Ali Express and Amazon. It's the Bafang 48v 750w mid drive. I bought a 20ah battery with it as well, and it can go 30 miles if you go around 15mph with it on throttle, about 10 more miles if you do pedal assist

brett3060 make sure you change the chain wheel because the original one will rip your chain apart and is so heavy and jerky and makes the whole experience less enjoyable. Stay safe and have fun! @@ForWhomBellstols It depends on the assisted level and your battery. I use it with a 48V 15Ah LPF battery. Among the 5 assisted level I settle on level 2, with the average speed of 40kph when pedaling, the battery will give me 40+km of range. With level 1 pedal assist, I estimate around 70km. Remember the assisted level of bbs02 is speed oriented. You go higher then you go faster, but only to a certain extent. If you have a custom controller then that's another story.

The cable is about $20 and you only have to change 1 setting to get throttle only

what's the range and what size battery are you using on your 750W?

52v Panasonic cells 20-40 miles not many hills here I use the throttle a lot. Around 20 miles throttle only mostly flat terrain. Then it depends on how much you peddle which PAS mode you use. Almost 500 miles on mine now still runs nice.

thanks for the quick reply, I just brought mine came in the post today. I am busy installing it and will probably use it ona 20AH 48v battery. I have been using wheel hub motors but this time decided to use these mid drive motors instead. I'll let you know how it is in a few weeks lol

Holy amp hours batman. I only have the 11.5ah battery. With the 20ah battery double it most likely.

I've got a BBSO2, with a 17.5ah 48v battery, which I fitted about 8 months ago, to a Boardman hybrid-type commuter. Riding under normal road conditions (ie 15mph on decent surfaces with little head wind) and assisting the motor to a fair degree, I can easily get over 100 miles of range between charges. And I'm recharging when I get down to between 2 and 3 bars, so plenty of juice still left. The trick is not to rely on the motor any more than you have to. Save it for the steeper hills. You'll stay fit that way as well. Happy e-biking! 😁💪

herkko61 hey, didn't make a review, but used the biggest nuvinci sprocket I could find online...22 tooth on the back, and a 34 Raceface narrow/wide tooth on the Bafang. I put it on a Trek Fuel EX full suspension, so I had to add an adjustable spring tensioner, to accomodate for the swingarm movement. I haven't had one instance of the chain coming off, but you CAN feel the flexing in the carbon fiber swingarm when torqing hard! Probably be more solid on a hardtail....that being said, last weekend took some e-bikes and buddies to Spieker mountain. It's a hiking trail, with about 2000 ft elevation over a couple of kms. Real steep! I was on my Giant with a 500 watt geared rear hub motor....I made it about halfway, and cooked my controller 😔. But the bafang/ nuvinci on the Trek Fuel EX climbed the entire trail to the top- with just a 10 amp/hr 48 volt battery!😲 Insane amount of torque! Nuvinci hubs and mid drive motors compliment each other....the motor can spin easily with the super low gearing, and not overheat. I think I was pushing the nuvinci to the limit, though....manufacturer recommends no more than a 500 watt motor driving the nuvinci, but it passed the " stress test" with flying colours! I didn't have an inclination meter in my back pocket, but I swear some of the slopes were over 50 degrees. Had a 2.5" x26" tire at about 20 psi on the back to put a good footprint on the ground. Met some winded hikers on the way down, and they couldn't believe we took bikes up there. I think the nuvinci is very efficient with a middrive motor, and buttery smooth. The Bafang is good with a typical gear cluster on the back hub, but can mash the chain and cassette pretty good, shifting under power. With the nuvinci, there is NO mashing, and power shifting is seamless and silent, so I think that the drivetrain will last longer, with less maintainance. Yes it is a heavier hub, but not noticable with a motor at all. If you were hesitating, wonder no more....you will be extremely pleased with the results!! cheers!

Thank you very much for your reply. I'll use Nuvinci + Bafang only in my city bike, so I think the torque will never be even close to a mountain bike use. Also, the first Nuvinci model should be the toughest to stand the torque. Just wondering because I'm quite a heavy guy. I already changed the rear sprocket to a White Industries' "heavy use" one, 20t if I recall correctly. Then I only need a Raceface 34 narrow/wide, that's all. This 1kW motor must be a beast! :) In my neighborhood there are many very steep hills. I like cycling as exercise but my knees are aching nowadays too much when riding up the hills.

herkko61 my stock chainwheel I got with my Bafang motor was a 44 tooth....I got an aftermarket spider that fit the Bafang motor from Hipower cycles. That way I was able to bolt up a variety of different chainwheels to the Bafang unit....I chose the Raceface 34 tooth for the crazy mountainclimbing torque....overkill for the city. Stock should work great with the nuvinci. I thought I'd tell you about the aftermarket spider...bafang has a 5 bolt pattern thats kinda unique to their brand, which limits your gearing options, I am not sure if they now offer different chainwheel options with the motor...but the spider was cheap, around 20 bucks, if you wanted that option. And then the narrow/wide chainwheels become an option. I like them-they do a great job of keeping the chain on the sprockets!😄

Thanks again Jim. Then I go with the Bafang chainwheel but keep in mind the spider adapter alternative if I later decide to move to mountain biking aswell. In that case I definitely need a spider.

Even a relatively mild increase in speed will dramatically reduce your range. If you stick to 15mph or less, you can expect around 20-30 watt hours per mile depending on conditions. But it goes up dramatically from there. Once you are over 20mph the energy consumption goes almost straight up as you increase the speed. Not only do you have the normal exponential increase of energy with speed, but you get enormous wind resistance.

32 kmph is enough, that way you are safe, police wont annoy you and you have great mileage, going at 65kmph on bike designed to go at 20kmph is just disaster, so many things waiting to go wrong. Have you heard of physics formula that if you double your speed, force increases by a factor of 4, so going at 65kmph from 30kmph will means you need 4x as much power from battery/motor and upon impact injury will be 4x worse.

@@SSToor It's nice to be able to go that speed, although for long distance cruising it's not economical, and I recommend a decent helmet. I'm thinking of upgrading to a downhill MTB helmet (want a motorcycle helmet but with better visibility and a bit cooler and lighter for pedaling), currently got a green cycle helmet but want a bit more padding/protection. Biggest danger I found was drivers doing maneuvers in front of you, not expecting you at close to motorcycle speeds on a push bike.

It's fine actually, just like riding a normal bike but instead of it weighing 10kg it's about 20....great on the downhills haha

I recently converted my Bianchi hardtail MTB to a Bafang mid-drive 750watt motor. Now having ridden it for some 250klms, I'm thankful I didn't put this on a bike with rim or V-brakes...the added weight and momentum would have quickly overcome anything but hydraulic disk brakes 👍

Midmotor is for hills, hub is for flat surface. Not saying you cant go uphill with hub, just its not meant for it.

About 20kg all up with motor and battery and bike. Eats up hills easily!

Gavin Boyle By 40A you mean ofcorse amps? But what AH you have? I finally bought BBSHD and now I have to decide about the battery. What is better, 48v 17 ah or 52v 14 ah? Is 52v worth it if I get less AH for the same money?

I have a 48V 7.8AH currently. I commute 8km to work and the 7.8V battery does this distance easily. Using throttle only at full power I can do 12-15 Km. I am 95kg and encounter a few small hills. When the battery is fully charged for the first 5-10 mins the acceleration is noticeably quicker. If you do a google search of a discharge curve graph of a say a Samsung 25R li-ion cell you will see that the very top tip of the voltage curve drops off rather quickly. As the voltage drops from its peak so does the acceleration. The 52V battery keeps you in that higher voltage band longer than a 48V battery. 48V x 17Ah = 816 Wh 52V x 14Ah = 728 Wh. So choose the 52V and get an additional 5-10 minutes of peaky acceleration or choose the 48V and get an extra 12% capacity. Since I ride a short distance I would go for the 52V 14Ah. However if you need to travel more than 20kms you will need that extra 12% capacity.

A 40 amp hour battery? That is huge. Is that a rack mount battery pack? Wherever did you locate such a thing?

G Henrickson His battery isn't 40 amp hour but only 7.8AH, read below. I have 52V 17.5AH and my bike with BBSHD goes about 55 km using just the throttle.

I see you went for the 52V. Awesome you are getting 55km. I am only getting about 45km tops. My crappy Samsung 26F celled 48V 15A battery is my limiting factor. I should have learnt/researched more before buying . I know now the BBSHD needs a battery that can easily deliver a constant 30A (when required) and that 48V is fine but 52V is better.

The more insane thing is that people will even go that speed on these kind of ebikes! Very unstable and bad range.

@@emish4282 bbs02 750w using 20AH battery does 20-25 miles pushing it hard going 30+mph. if i charge my battery everyday it costs about £2 per week 🙂

I have had this running for about 8 months now, I have changed out my cassette for a 11-34 only because it wasn't new when I had the conversion done so was worn a little at the top end. Changed the chain also at the same time. I have been super impressed with the way this bike can chew up big hills in the mountains and also can be used as a commuter. Very versatile and fun setup. Best part is a relatively low noise profile so doesn't look out of place on the road or trails...I think the BBS02 is a good setup too but for peace of mind of it not burning out and the extra power the BBSHD is the way to go!

Don't you find that the smaller front chainring lowers top speed. At the moment lm waiting for the 48t as I will see how I get on with that.

@@tonielcock8891 I've found on mine that 7.5 to 8 metres of rollout will get the most performance out of the motor and 9 metres of rollout for both the motor and my legs at the same time. 52/12 on 26" x 1.5 wheels with a BBS02B. Unfortunately it rubs against the chain stay without spacing washers. Any of those lekkie cogs would have to be smaller so worth using them with an 11 tooth as your highest gear. You will still get pretty fast on the smaller cogs. The above is for maximum flat land speed with pedal + throttle.

@@TimpBizkit what do you mean 7 to 8 metres of travel? I have gone back down to the 44t from the 48t and would never go any more than 44t now. Got 37mph down hill and 32.8mph, happy with the performance

Yes I felt that it rolled better on the road and therefore probably less drag on the motor, especially up hills. I have changed them back to nobby tyres at the moment though because its winter and I haven't been commuting to work on the bike. More trail time...

I'm also thinking of keeping it legal speed and getting a motorbike license, I think cops want to bust these bikes they are like riding a motorbike without registration like a free ride it would piss anyone off used to having accountability for accidents. I want to get 1000w model for when laws change and can up the speed and register it, I think if you hit someone at 70km you'll be in serious shit trying to explain it lol

Be careful what you program it for. Bbs02 controller is pretty weak. 25 amps continuous even is asking a lot of you want to to last. BBSHD can do 30 amps continuous no problem.

You can get double by using pedal assist but of you want a lot more than I suggest carry a 2nd battery or buy a battery bag but then it becomes heavier, not portable like on the frame and Very expensive!

Yes bbshd is better, its stronger and more perfected than 02
