Wouldn’t a big excavator with a rock hammer be a better choice ????

I thought he was doing okay until he decided ripping uphill was a good idea. Shank angle and a good tooth is so important in situations like this.

That's not the type of rock that can be ripped by a dozer. That type of rock has to be blasted. All that's happening is the slow death of a good dozer.

LOL here in Hawaii we do it all the time, in rock way worse than what's in this video. But we are forced to, blasting is heavily regulated here. If we can't rip it out, we bust out the excavators and hammers. Ive done 20'+ cuts, in solid rock with a D10, by pulling out one rock at a time. Its brutal on the machine and the body. Its common to spend a whole 40 hour work week doing nothing but ripping.😵‍💫

Well he is ripping it, just needs to use his ripper properly and it will be a whole lot easier on the machine.

@@jonathanhochreiter8811 Don't think so, if it had been blasted he wouldn't have to rip it, just blade it out. He would do a whole lot better if he kept his shank pulled In as when it gets in it just walks thru it but he keeps pushing the shank out and it just spins out, useless operator.

The operator knows s..t the rock is too hard he will break the ripper off and ruining a good dozer !! Them tracks spinning will get maybe a thousand hours ?
@rossgray3070

Its rippable ,he just needs to use the pitch on the rippers properly, soon as he pulls the shank in he makes progress, then he puts it out till its vertical and all he is doing is dragging the point acrosss the rock and going no where. 54 yrs on dozers thats easy stuff to rip, there is a lot harder stuff out there.

Good dozers have sealed and lubricated tracks that don't squeak. And will last a lot longer than 1000 hours even with a rookie f$ckwad dozer "driver" like that "running" them. This guy turned around more times in maybe 30 minutes of "hard rock" ripping than a real OPERATOR would in 30 hours.

this guy on dozer does not know S*** . always rip and push downhill . Use the weight of the machine . When starting to spin use the deaccelerator ' tracks dont last long spinning . Rock is hard to get traction on in dozer unless shot. Back in 90s ran a 9N that had vibrating ripper that helped

Depends on the grain of the rock, some times the easy way is uphill if the fault lines in the rock dictate that it be that way. Thats a hydrostatic drive dozer as are all Liebherrs so different mode of operation compared to torque converter and power shift on most others.

@@rossgray3070 if you say working uphill can be easier you have no experience on shot rock
@rossgray3070
@rossgray3070 Жыл бұрын
@@wyoodrifter1811 I am not talking about shot rock, in unblasted rock , if it rips easier going with the grain and if that means ripping slightly uphill then thats what U do. Shot rock is already loose, its a totally different ballgame. Have a read of caterpillars hand book on ripping techniques, you might learn somthing.

Backward starting ON the "shelf" and trying to "drill" through it instead of simply turning around and starting his passes in ALREADY RIPPED MATERIAL and coming in "under" the shelf? And DOWNHILL with both the blade and ripper in "power down" position so 3/4 of the track on the.ground is OFF the ground? He DOES "know how to rip:. He just has no clue whatsoever how to OPERATE A RIPPER. He doesn't even know enough to know what he doesn't know. Which is that the difference between "running" equipment and OPERATING it is MAINLY what happens between "passes". If you're in an "earthmover" and you repeatedly get a 360-degree "view" of the whole "job" every 5 or 15 minutes during your "turnaround time", you're "running" that equipment. Both runners and operators know dozers, wheel loaders, track loaders, excavators etc can "turn around on a dime" and make a u-turn or go a whole new direction on-site if the need arises. But only runners continually demonstrate that and "run" heavy equipment like they're in the family car and only use reverse to turn around quicker.
