The Cleveland Browns have a massive decision to make in regards to their quarterback. Interestingly enough, despite all the criticisms he's received, Baker Mayfield's career has aligned very similarly to another quarterback. Someone who's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

The most underrated aspect of Baker’s game is his arm strength. He has the longest recorded pass in the air. Edit: Longest recorded pass in game. And yes I am aware that Josh Allen, Mahomes, maybe even Stafford can throw farther than him. I never said he has the strongest arm, just saying his arm strength should be respected

Your kidding right his arm strength? Josh Allen would murder him in arm strength. Baker completed that pass on a hail mary with 2, maybe 3 ppl rushing him, atleast a 3rd to half the league can throw 70 yards. Baker is garbage. He's Case Keenum with a slightly better arm. He has the best running game one of the top WR cores, multiple TEs, and top 10 defense and a top 10-15 o-line and nobodies scared of the Browns. Now why you think that is? I give you a hint his 1st name starts with B and his last name starts with a M.

A few extra points ... Baker and Drew played at two different high schools down the road from one another in an Austin suburb. Drew really appreciated Sean Payton & the Saints for making a good contract offer based on faith after Drew failed his physical in Miami. Drew was always loyal & stayed with the Saints because of that faith and respect shown. He knew Sean had his back. Texas boys are like that, one of the reasons Baker is over the Browns. Trust is a huge deal and they don't know how to give less than 100%. Also, Drew said in an interview a few years ago that Baker reminded him of himself except he thinks he'll be better. Sean Payton was positive too. Thank you for the stats. 🖒🙄🏈

I was stationed in San Diego for many years, and was there when the Chargers drafted Brees and later Tomlinson. Since I was an out of town guy, I watched the Charger games (I was a 49ers fan) as a neutral person and loved what I saw with Drew Brees. But the local fans didn't want anything to do with him, he had to go. So when Brees became a big name in New Orleans, it made it all simply hilarious for me. It's a good thing he left San Diego knowing how poorly the Chargers would eventually use some prime talent they had from the era. They would have wasted Brees the same way they wasted Tomlinson and Gates.

us Chargers fans still had Philip Rivers who turned out to be a great QB so you finding it hilarious that Drew Brees still turn out good doesnt really work here since we still had an elite QB. yes Drew Brees won a SB but that was thanks to a great organization which the Chargers dont have with Spanos. also Drew didnt leave SD, it was the Chargers who let Brees go because of the shoulder injury that he had who they thought ended Brees career. Tomlinson and Gates werent wasted because if they really wanted a ring then they wouldve left the Chargers when they still had a chance but they stayed anyways not counting LT since he didnt want to leave but the Chargers cut him. both of those guys cared more about the Chargers than winning a ring

Bakers a solid qb for that offense, but they should be relying on the running game. With that o-line and the running backs they have, it should be a run-first mentality. I know Chubb and Hunt have been out, but Johnson has looked good for the few games he’s been in. Unless the running game is completely bottled up, Baker should never have over 30 passing attempts a game.

They rely on their running game. This video is pretty short sighted. Several teams play in the bad weather and won't hesitate to go deep. Drew Brees played in one game his 1st year. So you have to adjust his progress based on that. And people forget that the Saints were considered perennial underachievers before they were finally able to get to the super bowl. And Tom Brady has not routinely taken pay cuts. He was the highest paid qb in the league one of those years they won the super bowl. His 1st super bowl, he had recently become the starter. The team was so good that they won with him only throwing for a little over 100 yards. So how much he got payed shouldn't even be considered. Baker can get better, but he's having trouble with the same things that a lot of college spread offense QBs never seem to get a grasp of. The big warning sign is a lack of progress, not necessarily how good he is at this point. There's a video with Kurt Warner analyzing some of his plays from last season. He had trouble recognizing man coverage on a 2 WR crossing route down by the goal line. He was so fixated on the out WR that he hesitated and messed up a simple throw to in WR for a walk in TD.

Happy Halloween, first of all Secondly, I'm a Ravens fan so take it with a grain of salt, but I think right now, the Browns should stick with Baker and give him a contract. $60 million to $100 million seems fair considering what he's done so far. If he goes to the super bowl or AFC championship this year, his deal can go upwards of that. He's a good qb (not the best in the league but still good), he gives the browns hope, but beyond that he's a good person and a hard worker. I'd say pay him modestly and let him work.

The problem with that contract would be the same the Chargers had with Drew Brees. Brees signed a 6 yr 60 million contract putting him in the top 5 but he quickly dropped down the list in subsequent seasons. In today's money that would be about 5 yr 150 million. I would say Mayfield has a better supporting cast than Brees. The problem is what every team has with QBs who win above 50%. Are they worth 30-40 million and what choice do you have if you don't sign them.

True...and he always reminded me of Brees. Similar attributes. Size speed and throwing power and accuracy. It's not his fault his recievers are seriously underperformed this year. Obj is a shade of his former self His go to guy in Landry is uncharacteristically dropping passes. Lastly, Austin Hooper hasn't performed nearly as well as he did for the Falcons. They definately need to draft a WR that can stretch the field or look at signing one through free agency. Obj is reminding me of Braylon Edwards toward the end of his career. It's crazy how fast recievers used to be able to have 15 year careers easily. Very rarely anymore. The Diva reciever era is over.

He's a competitor and doesn't want to come out. When push comes to shove though his injuries have stacked up to the point that it has clearly affected his ability to throw the ball. Sit him for this season and if we are lucky and make the playoffs with keenum than maybe he would he able to play by then and be in better shape. Having watched Baker being a human highlight reel in 4 year at college and basically save the Browns with his arm until they could get all the other pieces in place for the first two years, it is kind of puzzling to see Browns fans start bad mouthing him after he gets injured. Karma has a way of dealing with fan bases and teams that do that kind of shite.. Pay him what he is worth. To the Browns, he is worth everything in the bank.

Baker has been a great addition to the Browns. He is a QB that if Cleveland lets him walk will cause this team to regress even more than it is. Baker could easily get by with taking pay cuts, 20-25 million a year is quite a sturdy paycheck, regardless of what you do. If Cleveland can afford to keep getting valuable assets and good picks, in the next few seasons the browns could get even better

This is an excellent video, and it brings to mind something important. We often compare young QBs to the all time greaats, but the one piece that is often missed, ignored or overlooked, are the early career struggles of those all time greats, and this puts some really valuable perspective into the evaluation of Baker, and is te approach that must be applied to all young QBs, certainly guys have their careers ended by a short memory and unfair expectations, especially early on. Sure, lots of guys end up washing out or being perpetual backups, but I am quite certain that a lot of guys, think Tim Couch or David Carr, didn't work out, not because of their lack of ability, but the horrible team around them and the nightmare organizations that built their teams.

Nice job on the video. Smart and accurate analysis. How many QB's get drafted each year and how many are average or below average? We do not want to go back out there and search for another QB. Baker is not done: The Browns, Chiefs, Bills and all the teams that paid huge money for their QB are screwed. It takes 2-3 years to destroy the franchise, but the big contract does indeed destroy them. If Baker is smart, he takes a pay cut (12mill) going forward (2023) and plays for a decent team that can use that savings to surround him with talent. The idiots that say "they the man his money" never study the cap.
