It would explain why he couldn’t summon Ra without the help of Marik in season 2. He’s an outsider to the kingdom and not worthy of the Gods, since Marik and Yugi both have lineage to the Egyptians this would support your theory

This is actually a really good theory and there is something else that can support this. Though Bakura’s name can be traced to a Sanskrit entomology, “Baku” in Japanese refers to the creature that is said to devour dreams and nightmares. It also refers to the Malayan Tapir, which can also be found in India (and other surrounding countries.) Another supporting detail is Diabound, Thief King Bakura’s Ka. It heavily resembles a Naga from Hindu mythology, which are half human/ half serpentine creatures, which are often depicted with wings.

Thief King Bakura was Kul Elnan, the last survivor of Kul Elna in fact. That rage towards the Egyptians for destroying his village of origin and using it as sacrifices for the Millenium Items` creation is how Zorc possessed Thief King Bakura by convincing him that because the Millenium Items were made from his fellow Kul Elnans` souls they were his by birthright. Of course, the Thief King didn`t know at the time Zorc was the evil spirit his people were sacrificed to placate in the first place, adding an extra layer of tragedy to his story.

I get what you mean, it makes sense that he'd be culturally or racially distinct. Aknaden says Kul Elna is near the valley of the kings so he was probably born in Egypt. That said, it was a town of "Thieves" which is a word the ruling class will often call foreigners and pooreigners, regardless of how true the statement may be. Bakura hailing from a tribe that settled in the area from somewhere beyond Egypt makes a lot of sense. Aknaden himself would likely see no issue in murdering a whole town if he didn't consider them 'part' of the kingdom. I also wanna note (if you consider capsule monsters relevant at all), specifically in reference to India, Alexander the Great would acquire the Millenium RING before heading off to India where he built a pyramid and would ultimately find the thing the killed him both IRL and in CM. I'm not saying Zorc or Bakura took Alexander to India on purpose but maybe some echo of Bakura's heritage pulled him that way bleh

Definitely think he is Hebrew! For sure it's pretty obvious. Either Hebrew or Northern Indian in that sort of area where northern India in ancient times was known to be occupied by Aryan peoples and were highly related to Semetic peoples; Iran/Mesopotamia/etc. So no doubt about all that and regardless we know the overall region he comes from now. Now what I want for yugioh to do is release a movie taking place shortly after this story, Joey around the time of Dark side of Dimensions gets to experience his ancient past that takes place parallel to when Kaiba is Pharoah. an ancient Greek version of Tristan, Mai, Joey and his sister where Mai is connected to Harpies and Amazons, Joey is the average Greek guy who is connected to Red eyes where Red eyes eggs/stones originates from a greek volcano and Joey encounters ancient Mai where the amazons teach him how to connect with Red Eyes. Then Joey faces off with ancient barbarian versions of Weevil, Rex and the ultimate villain being ancient greek version of Bandit Keith where eventually ancient Greek Joey travels to Egypt and his red eyes faces off with now Pharoah Kaiba blue eyes. Maybe even more backstory on where Kisara comes from and how Blue eyes was intwined into her and through her story maybe it can reveal how the red eyes version was born and how it got into the greek volcano etc. Seeing all the priestess and maiden cards of blue eyes etc. That looks nothing like Egypt, id like to see how blue eyes came originally from say Greek gods say zeus with light sky and lightning , explaining how blue eyes was powerful enough to stand against the power of Egyptian God's and even Zorc, and somewhere along the line of blue eyes being formed from greek God's is how red eyes came about through greel god Vulcan in the Volcano.

When he witnessed the massacre of his peoples he would have also recieved knowledge of Zorc since the dark magic used to make the was a risky maneuver to win an early war since Zorc attacked when they were made. When Zorc attacked the Ring fell into the darkness. So it became an Evil bathed ring of dark magic that was perfect for Bakura to use as an anchor to summon Zorc. The Thief King could have been a filler arc if Egypt didn't use dark magic to all solve their problems.

Remember how the HYKSOS invaded Egypt in around 1700 BCE? The first Yu-Gi-OH series a lot of people grew up watching as children was NOT the original series. What is now called Season 0 was the first Yu-Gi-OH show to ever be produced in Japan, with 13 episodes the show features a much darker more sinister Yami or spirit of the Puzzle that posses Yugi and forces criminals and other devious individuals to games in the Shadow realm where they would be forced to stake their very lives if they lost. Yami straight up tortures or kills his opponents and Kaiba also almost kills Mokuba and Yugi's grandfather when he built a theme park of death called Death-T. Season 0 would eventually be cancelled by the studio that made it which I believe is Tomy or Takura Tomy(or some studio that starts with T, I can't remember.). This was because parents of children who were watching the show complained to the studio that the show was way to dark and had mostly nothing to do with the Dual Monster's card game it was originally supposed to advertise and so the series many grew up watching was made and aired instead. You can actually still find subtitled versions of the 13 episodes of Season 0 online although you will have to look very hard to find good quality versions since most of the footage was most likely video taped from tv although I could be wrong about this. At the end of the day the series of Yu-Gi-OH! many grew up watching on 4Kids was the second iteration of the franchise not the original or first iteration.

Hi I came back to this video because I remembered another piece of evidence for your theory. Zork is clearly Sumerian. Sumerian deities were significantly distinct from Egyptian ones. While still having a lot of anthropoid features Sumerian deities didn't have the same consistency of shape we find in Egyptian art. The antagonistic Sumerian Gods like pazuzu specifically look like gargoyles with snakes where their dingdongs are supposed to be, like zork. Zork is viewed as foreign, being from another place but presumably the people to the far north had different opinions of the dark master.

very interesting! I admire the effort gone into researching this, great video! another point (this is just from personal speculation), when you spoke about kisara being the good foreigner and bakura being the bad, that could be because of the experience they had in Egypt, while kisara was treated badly, she was shown that there are good people in Egypt when seto rescued her, and so didn't become resentful etc. whereas bakuras life was always horrible from the village massacre to racism and to possible slavery, don't think anything good ever happened and that kind of makes him even more of a favourite since I sympathise with him more. also would have loved a kisara backstory as that could have other incidents that led to her being good and not evil like bakuras "incidents" anyway great video and analysis!

In my opinion I do believe that Bakura is from India if you even take a look at his clothes they don't look Egyptian. It's so cool to see anime's have some Mythology meanings too them. It kinda sucks to see that some people in Mythology have to go through that. One thing got me thinking that girl that can control the Blue Eyes White Dragon she wasn't from Egypt which means she's from a different village that we haven't seen\heard of in Yugioh, or she might be from the same village as Bakura. If this is true then her and Bakura are the only survivers from that village.

I had honestly thought the name "Bakura" was translated too literally like "Seto" which I believe was supposed to "Seth", "Ishizu" from "Isis", "Marik" from "Malik" and so on. With this in mind, his name would likely be better translated as "Bakra", which is an actual name In Urdu, the native language of Pakistan and simply means "goat". This is a really interesting theory; Bakura is my favorite character too. The only issue I have in this video, is that India is not part of the Middle East; rather it is a part of South Asia as well as Pakistan. The Middle East is part of West Asia. People mainly think Pakistan is part of it due to it being a "stan" country, but rather it is just in close proximity. Sorry, I don't mean to be picky on this and it's not really that important, I just know a lot about geography. Great theory, and this video definitely developed some headcanons for me.

Nice theory. It's funny how, both Bakura and Seto, share the same name as their ancient Egyptian counterparts. You may as well be right about Bakura being a foreigner. But I am still not sure about Bakura being his actual name. The example you gave with the title of the manga chapter called 'King thief Bakura' is not a really good one, as the story is happening in the memory world of the pharaoh. And it has been established that the events in the memory world, where different in many ways, than the actual events that happened 5000 years ago. So Bakura, may as well have had a different name 5000 years ago, but chose to use the new one in the memory world because he likes it better and is the one that Atem k ow him by. But we will never know for certain, considering Kazuki Takahashi didn't really gave much details about most of his characters. But putting that aside, nice job on the video. You really did your research.

The fanfic posits that nearly everyone in the village were Indian and they even used proto-Sanskrit to leave coded messages to each other about safe houses to hide treasure, level of guard, and other info.

Yugioh played us so hard...they kept saying he who has all the millennium items will possess the power to rule the world...when really you have to assemble them all and place them together at a specific spot and it just summons Zorc which will destroy and rule the world... There are so many plot holes like 1) All the millennium items were made from the blood sacrifices of innocent people and yet yugi always has the audacity to say his magic is “good” while others are evil 2) the puzzles powers are still made ambiguous...we have some info on it but it’s still inconsistent what abilities the holder has

India is in South East Asia quite far away from Egypt, Which is in North Africa right next to the Middle East. His more likely either Hebrew since they're whole nation were slaves to the Egyptians and were foreigners in that land, not sharing in any Egyptian culture or religion and were activitlly against it as slaves. Maybe Kushite since they did have conflicts with Egypt, but I'm kneeling more Hebrew/Jew since those two nations histories are more intertwined. You could say Greek if you don't want to bring Hebrew/Jews into this ,even though it as stretch, but Greek is more likely than Indian, since the greeks had friendly interaction with Egypt till Alexander The Great. Indian is honestly just too far, i live on the African continent in South Africa and Indian is more close to my country than Egypt.

It's a perplexing idea, to be perfectly honest when I first watched and then later read the graphic novels my opinion on Bakura...was not positive. My favourite Yugioh character is always Joey. However this idea does strike me as very possible, it would also make sense in another regard....if Kul Elna did have a mixed population that didn't play well with others....it makes sense it was selected for the purpose it was. I imagine there were many villages that did tomb raiding, that's all that got Kul Elna singled out for being sacrificed?! I doubt it, I suspect it's far more likely that the village may have been guilty of being foreign, so they're foreign tomb raiders who don't play well with their neighbours?! Can you say perfect sacrifice village!? Also a small note of interest I find with Bakura is his monster, Diabound, it may just be me but the thing continuing to evolve and change is interesting...and could be linked with the idea of Reincarnation, maybe Diabound wasn't as unstoppable as it seemed, it could be that it was dying but then it was reviving, thus reincarnating into a stronger being, it may not be evolution as we understand it but it could be that the act of death fuelled him, Diabound did summon those evil spirits if memory serves. Well I'm probably just wrong but I tried.

Interesting theory but I wonder two things: 1) what time period is the ancient egyptian parts of the series supposed to be about because egpyt had heavy trade and cultural exchange with other people until it's kingdom fell, not to say there couldn't have been violent racism (even now) but foreigners wouldn't have been horribly uncommon after a point in egyptian history 2) Bakura is Ryou's last name and while it would be an interesting coincidence if Thief king reincarnated into a family that carried his first name as a last name I just am not sure. If so, it would be an interesting hint into Ryou's family history (not that I know anything about how names are passed down in India ) maybe he's supposed to be mixed heritage? But that really all dependent on that big IF his name was Bakura. Wouldn't it just a brilliant plan on the dark essance that is the ring spirit that no one actually remember his true name. Atem is visiting his memories not time traveling, right? If the spirit wanted he could in theory just use Bakura and have this weaved into the fabric of time. He feels like his humanity was taken, at least I suppose, he's given in so much to revenge that it would make thematic sense. Hmm well either way it's given me something to think over so thanks for the vid!
@stinkarely
@stinkarely 3 жыл бұрын
Hard to tell what the time period is because based off the Japanese version, Atem was born around 1000 B.C. but in the English dub it was 3000 B.C, so in the present time of the show it is the 1990's (somewhere between 96-98 I think). I don't know if it is also the 1990's in the Japanese version

Asiatic is a geographic term east of Egypt. Not an ethnic or racial term. Egyptians were afro-asiatic people (linguistic term) and they faced competition from the Indo-European people such as the Hittites. All Indo-Europeans have Storm gods as their chief god in their pantheons from Germans to Northern Indians (Thor to Indra). Bakura is associated with thunder. I would say Bakura is Indo-European in origin. They fought the Egyptians before. The Blue eyes girl was also indo-european. Priest Seto fell in love with her. The only mystery is Malik. He also has colored hair. Could he also be indo-european?

Bakura's hair doesn't mean anything, he's just Albino. Albinism affects the hair, skin, and or eyes. In the thief king's case, his hair is albino, and possibly his eyes, due to their violet color. As you know, blue and red mix to create a violet or purple color. Albinism in the eyes occasionally causes an either red or blue eye color, or rarely, both. Same with Kisara
@lorddanny2988
@lorddanny2988 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if he is albino, since albinism also makes skin pure white (which is not the case with the Thief King, who has very dark skin), and it also causes partial blindness, and Bakura definitely doesn't show signs of struggling to see. Albinism also makes it dangerous to go out in the sun, and with a bright hot sun like the one in Egypt, Bakura would be dead. I wish there was a straight-up answer to what his hair is doing, whether it was just a random colour choice by the writer or if it was actually meant to symbolize something x_x
@cockatielfrenzi4769
@cockatielfrenzi4769 5 жыл бұрын
@@lorddanny2988 Albinism doesn't have to affect all of them(hair, eyes, skin) You can be albino in only your hair, or in your hair and skin. Ryou is albino in his hair and eyes, because he has white hair and unnaturally pale skin compared to the others. He isnt albino in his eyes, however, due to the fact that they are a rich brown. I have a friend who is only albino in their skin, and they have to wear sunscreen when its cloudy out, yes, but I doubt the thief king is albino in his skin, due to its tan coloring. Albinism in the eyes also doesn't necessarily mean that he can't see well. Considering his eyes are violet, I would say that he is albino in his hair, and partially albino in his eyes, but not his skin.

@@cockatielfrenzi4769 4 years way too late (altho always relevant), but Ryou's eyes are not brown, anime studio decided to change it on their own Ryou's eyes were always blue, in every colored page and covers, ever since introduction in vol 6.
