Balatro 1.01 Update's Gold Stake Is So Much More Interesting Now

Balatro has a public experimental 1.01 update now, with a lot of changes I point out in the video. The most important is that Orange Stake and Gold Stake, the hardest difficulties, instead of RNG-increasing downsides, now give more interesting joker modifiers. This is my first time playing with them, and they make this mode much less of an RNG festival.

i don't blame you, it has some really niche applications and sometimes doubling rng can screw you over (glass cards, the wheel, etc.) but it works reallyy well with bloodstone especially now that it's a 1 in 2

@@RupertAndCheese by "the wheel" it's not wheel of fortune being referred to, but a boss blind effect that is "1 in 7 chance for a card to draw face down" that goes to 2 in 7 lol

Thanks to this update I finally beat the orange and gold stake on black deck. Made use of updated Swashbuckler too. Also rental jokers actually make campfire better because they are basically free mults.

My heart sank at 14 minutes in when you redeemed Clearance Sale. It also applies to sell value of Jokers, basically ruining ceremonial dagger.

I can see that, but it is not how I wish to enjoy these types of games (playing more slowly is really not fun at all to me). my brain wiring is that I can make mistakes then immediately notice them when it's a second too late and I have not successfully fixed it either. it obviously matters if I miss a good strategy on one of my choices that I could have saved with 10-30 seconds of checking all triggers, but I would hate doing that for every moment. (especially because 'optimal' play of inventory management makes you do so many more choices than a slightly less optimal play - i also personally disliked STS's potion stuff)

The guy sandbagged until the final hand, then played a pair when he had 4 of a kind. I don't wanna be rude to him, but this seemed like a legitimate skill issue to expect a pair to solo the blind.

@@alasdairsinclair916 that's honestly fair enough, I believe at the time I somehow and insanely thought my score per hand was closer to 500 and was on track to win. the game forces these optimal (but potentially run losing, aka "greedy") choices all the time and I tend to notice each one, this one was definitely one of them since you're incentivized to keep face cards in hand

I do really agree that stronger hands giving worst scores is absolutely silly. That should definitely be fixed.

Endless Mode should allow to specifically deactivate Stake Effects (from none to deactivate everything, based on how your Setup is working, because Eternals for example can be necessary for certain builds)

that's an interesting idea that makes gold+endless more fair, it's definitely odd that endless is like a 'gamemode' that's obviously more impressive score-wise to play on white stake and it would be a nice way to go 'between' the two playstyles
