Ball bearings are an amazing piece of technology, we can found them in almost any mechanical machine, and inside them you'll find perfectly round metal balls, the essence of stop motion joints. So I decided to use one of them and convert it into a double ball and socket stop motion joint. What an interesting challenge...

While not the most efficient approach, a wood armature would be interesting to see! Many years ago I tried something similar with popsicle sticks, and small decorative wooden balls I got from a crafts shop. Movement was surprisingly smooth, but holding strength was nothing to call home about.

Excellent Ed!! Have you looked at trying threaded ball and rods found in the body piercing industry, you can get so many bar lengths and ball sizes for really cheap and just braze the balls to the rods!! then making the joint plates is all you would need to do after that. I use them and it saves so much time!

Hey, I know them, actually I don't do what you see in the video, it's just a challenge. I don't like so much silver soldering so I turn the balls in the lathe, that's my way, but piercing parts are a smart way to do it. See you
