The standard lead screws on a Sherline mill are replaced by ball screws to reduce backlash. As a bonus friction goes down dramatically. The video also shows the protective covers for all three axes.

Just ran across this video, love the work you did here, and that spiral protector is excellent. I've been using an accordion protector that might just get retired after this :)

When this video was made you couldn't get ball screws from Sherline. Last year they started making a kit. For three axis the price is $1,804.00 US. And of course it doesn't come with the cool Spiral protector. Way cool and top notch work.

Very nice, enjoyed the creativity. Especially the telescoping screw covers.

Fantastic work - and looks like quite an improvement. Please post a drawing or sketch for the new saddle.

*VERY* nice job! Would you consider selling a "plan set" (or even CNC code) for the saddle assy? Thanks, 'sig

Why are the slots cut in the saddle?

They are expensive. I bought them from China and paid $555 for three screws including shipping to Sweden.

Protector makes more sense now! :) Very cool idea, first I've seen it and I've watched LOTS of milling/cnc vids.

I think the word you were trying to spell is "Spiral" and not "Sprial"
