I love the way she fills her pauses. They're not abbreviated or anything, which is something I don't tend to notice, but when you see someone really put to use the little breath areas, it's so "wow". She's so "wow".

She is much more expressive than most ballerinas today. good job!

I love how lively this dance is. It was really attractive in a "look at me!" kind of way (in my opinion) the facial expressions were also really lovely

I've recently fallen in love with the Royal Ballet and Romany is my absolute favorite! When she's on stage/screen I can't take my eyes off of her. She's intensely expressive and such a beautiful dancer!

The year this piece was created is very evident in her movements. It was remarkably modern. Yet still appealing in the classical sense.

She is amazing, her upper body and facial expression mixed with her clean technique makes for an ultimately charming performance! I love this series so much! Please do more like this.

Markova lamented the increasing rise of athleticism over artistry in the generations of dancers that followed the era in which she was a ballerina. I feel modern ballet dancers' flawless technique and physical strength allow for much deeper and authentic expression - as is evidenced in Ms Pajdak's performance of this variation - than Markova ever achieved.

I don't think so - too much like acrobats/gymnasts these days with all those hyper extensions - a lot of the class and grace has gone.

I wish they would show these with less technique and less support in their shoes so people can see how technique has evolved.

I must object. I saw Markova dance and believe me she never went for a cheap effect and was never "cute". She could be ironic, fey or whimsical. She had beautiful hands and magic feet which gave her the lightness of thistledown. Reconstructing steps alone says nothing much about bygone stylistic manner. Markova was the third prima ballerina assoluta in the history of dance and Britain's "people's ballerina". This does her no honor. This is not directed at the performer. Caveat emptor.
@olive37006 жыл бұрын
I agree. The "cuteness" in the hands and wrists reminds me of young gymnasts today. Ugh. Markova was ethereal, never coy.
@nonenoneonenonenone10 жыл бұрын
Very proficient, technically secure, and rather lacking in charm and expressiveness. More style, please. Don't look strong, the fact that you're doing steps should be merely coincidental to grace.
@ThotProphet10 жыл бұрын
zzindorf tells a ballarina from the royal ballet how to dance, I'm sure she'll read your comment and realize what she should be doing. LOL
@nonenoneonenonenone10 жыл бұрын
I hope so. Just because you got into a big company doesn't mean you know everything. Almost every dancer I ever met paid little attention to their hands, yet they tell the whole story, and it doesn't matter too much how great your legs look if your hands flop about like dead fish.
@pvandck10 жыл бұрын
zzindorf She's dancing in the style of Alicia Markova to choreography created for Markova. That fact seems entirely lost on you while you pretend to give advice to a first soloist. Such arrogance. How about you post a video of yourself demonstrating how it should be done.
@nonenoneonenonenone10 жыл бұрын
You don't know what you are talking about.
@pvandck10 жыл бұрын
zzindorf Reading your contribution here, no-one knows what they're talking about except you (speaking of people who "know everything"). You are a fairly typical KZfaq armchair expert - in love with your personal opinions (and prejudices) and masquerading them as unequivocal fact. Do you seriously think Romany Pajdak will read or even care what your "expert" opinion is (you are after all addressing your "criticisms" directly at her)? She's a first artist/soloist with the Royal Ballet while you are an armchair pilot. I expect were she to need lessons in piloting her own armchair you will be top of the list. If you knew as much as you think you do, you would know that this dancer has performed this piece (which is a demonstration not a gala performance) having been guided in rehearsal. She isn't just doing her own thing. And if you knew anything about choreography you would know that no two performances are ever the same. There are always alterations here and there to suit the director and particular dancers (Moira Shearer for example couldn't do fouettes, so she had to do something else). You would do well to listen to someone like Valery Gergiev who, apart from knowing something about ballet and dancers, is rather against the notion of "cloned" ballerinas. As for charm and expressiveness, from your comments and the disconnect with the actual performance here, it's doubtful you would recognise either concept if you saw them. Now, how about that video of you demonstrating how it should be done?

not even remotely close to Markova's whimsical grace and lightness. P.S.: btw, horrid costumes.
