Bambulab A1 - Stock Ludicrous mode vs custom profile speed test
You won't believe the difference
Stock profile has ludicrous mode enabled and this is pretty much how most users will use their A1 printers- however if you are willing to play around with the profiles you might just be surprised by how good this thing is
File available here if you want to give it a try
www.thingivers...
Rocket2.stl is the version in the video
0.4mm nozzle
Generic pla
0.2mm layer heights
Before changing anything slice a model so you can get an idea of print time prior to making any changes - you will slice the same model at the end and compare times
Settings I changed below
In the slicer select your printer and nozzle setup (in my case A1 with 0.4mm nozzle)
once its selected you can click on the edit button at the end of it in the slicer to modify the settings
The edit page shows 4 tabs across the top
Basic information
Machine G-Code
Motion Ability
Extruder
We will only be concerned with Motion ability and extruder
Select motion ability and scroll down to jerk limitation
change
Max Jerk X to 6
Max Jerk Y to 20
Max Jerk Z to 20
Max Jerk E to 6
Now select Extruder tab
Z hop when retracting change to 0
Z hop upper boundary change to 0
Z hop type change to slope (may or may not make a difference)
Retraction speed change from 30 to 40
Detraction speed change from 30 to 40
Z hop upper boundary change to 0
Save that - I named it speed setting in slicer for handiness
Now back to Bambu slicer main screen and select your filament
I chose Generic PLA @BBL A1
at the end of the filament there's an edit button ( its between filaments 1 and 2 if using multiple filaments or ams)
In here we have 4 tabs
Filament
Cooling
Setting Overrides
Advanced
We will be adjusting
Filament and Cooling
Select Filament
Change Flow ratio from .98 to 1.1 or 1.2 (you may want to adjust this after you do your initial print)
Scroll to bottom of page and click on Max volumetric speed and change this from 12 to between 48 and 52 - (I used 50 but you want to play around with this depending on results)
In here you may want to add some extra temperature for the nozzle due to the increased speeds currently 220 on first layer and 220 on other layers (I suggest bumping this to 225 on both)
Now move to the cooling tab
Under Part cooling fan - change Fan speed to 100%
Untick - Slow printing down for better layer cooling
Cooling overhang threshold - change from 50% to 0%
That should be it close out of this or save it if you plan to use it again
With your modified printer chosen and modified filament selected slice the model you previously sliced and fingers crossed you should see a considerable time saving
If you are unhappy with the changes you can revert to standard by hitting the little orange undo button in front of any items you changed

Settings now added to the video description - let me know if you have any issues and I will help if possible - please bear in mind this is increasing speed so will likely have an effect on print quality if pushed too far

Remember that ludicrous benchy that you made a video about? That video made me get an A1 and it just arrived and went through it's first pre-sliced benchy as well in 20m. And it has a better quality than all my other printers... :D Thanks for the videos, looking forward to more content.

Thanks for sharing, but the speed on the left doesn't look like Ludicrous mode at all? If I am not wrong, the speed was limited by the minimum layer time (normally 5-6sec). The one on the right obviously has a very short minimum layer time (around 1sec).
@Kenprints
@Kenprints 7 ай бұрын
the one on left is definitley ludicrous mode but its ludicrous mode of the stock pla settings that bambu studio used for slicing that rocket nothing was changed just left alone the way an average user would use it if they were to slice the rocket the right hand side as you say has been modified to allow it to run up to a faster speed in ludicrous mode but both are running at 166% but at different settings within the slicer hope that makes sense -

@@Kenprints Thanks for your thorough reply. I believe the stock Ludicrous mode in your video was definitely limited by minimum layer time and can be easily speeded up by lowering the minimum layer time within the Cooling tab of the filament profile.

Very cool. Though I don't understand why you have glue stick on textured PEI. I've run 1000+ prints on my P1S and have never once used glue stick on textured PEI. The only adhesion failure I've had was the models fault when I was testing maker world and sending prints that other people sliced directly to the printer.
@Kenprints
@Kenprints 7 ай бұрын
i had glue on the bed already from a previous print but also didnt want the rocket coming loose at higher speeds - generally dont have adhesion issues at all but sometimes use the glue as a precaution on longer or taller prints

How is it compared to P1S? Been on the fence of A1 or P1S. Was going to get X1C but would rather save the money until Bambu releases a larger printer.
@Kenprints
@Kenprints 7 ай бұрын
i have 3 p1s models and they are faster or at least closer to my faster setting here i can print nylon without issue on the p1s but strugging with cooling on the a1 so if you plan on printing plastics other than pla and petg tpu etc then go for the p1s (budget dependant) but the a1 is a serious machine for the money and the ams lite is pretty good too just takes up more space than the p1s and ams

@@Kenprints more space than the p1s even with the top mounted ams?
@Kenprints
@Kenprints 7 ай бұрын
yes even with top mounted ams when you allow for the motor and poop flinger plus the forward and back motion of the bed the A1 takes up approximately 50cm x 60cm that incl a small collection bucket for poop and the p1s takes up approx 50cm x 50cm incl space to reach a poop container at the rear from the side of the printer
