No one is prepared for this! I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her. You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻

Angelina has occasionally had contact with singing teachers. But not so much to change her self-taught way of singing, but more to learn how to protect her amazing voice. Angelina, 4-5 yo, attended Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, She learned to play piano, guitar etc. She has also learned to arrange music etc. She started singing when she was very young! Since then, she has trained an incredible amount. I have heard that she practiced several hours a day, already at the age of 4-5.

Angelina 9 yo. Look at her! She controls the entire recording. She has the power and ability to carry this out. The fact that she then has an outstanding fantastic voice and theatrical body language only makes everything even better. The musicians are also amazingly good. They give everything to complete this masterpiece! This little Norwegian girl reads the English lyrics while singing! She is from Norway and they speak Norwegian there. English is Angelina's 3rd language! Already at 5-6 years old, she understands exactly what is meant in the lyrics! Incredible! A genius at work. I am so happy for everything she gives me. / a Swedish Viking.

@@bobcieslinski There is another young singer who was creating a stir in Europe and Asia and even in America. This girl chose another path to sing down. I speaking of the young Kazakh Daneliya Tuleshova. While Daneliya always wanted to be a Pop star, her voice is versatile enough to sing most any singing style. While Angelina's genius is evident as to it's scope, Daneliya's is in the nuance she brings to bare on a song. Her easy manner of singing can sometimes cover the little things she does instinctively that affects the way a song may be perceived. I am giving you her blind audition for the Voice Kids Ukraine 2017. Daneliya's audition she sang Demi Lovato's,, 'Stone Cold' which went viral and has been viewed over 81 million times. Then things went differently than most times, as the judges had her sing a whole new song as an encore. Usually the singer is asked to sing the ending chorus the song they just sang. Not here and Daneliya sang a popular Ukrainian song 'Tree My' which she sings in Ukrainian which has the judges excited. The whole audition is 10:30 long and I hope you watch the whole thing as the things the judges say leaves Daneliya's mom on the edge of fainting and Daneliya shaking her head in disbelief. The video I selected has all Subtitles in English. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oK2FpKyGm9ucdas.html Daneliya at 10 'Stone Cold' by Demi Lovato.

At six she she told the shoeless girl, she befriended and gave her shoes to, that she wanted to be a superstar and sing for the world. At seven she was finally old enough to enter Norway’s Got Talent, which se won. She has stated that if there was no Billy Holiday there would not be an Angelina. Talent beyond comprehension. Started on this journey by the time she was 1 1/2 years old, recorded singing Whitney Houston in her crib. When she was 3 she informed her mother that she was going to sing for "that Simon guy". The die was cast. By this age, 9, she had recorded Etta, Billie, Ella and many more of the jazz masters. All are spectacular performances. A year from this performance, all traces of childhood disappear from her voice and she performs with complete mastery.

I'm SO glad this was my introduction song to Angelina. For, me, it will always be the first aong I will tell people to check out for their first experience of her. I never tire of this. SOOOO many incredible elements/techniques she displays here: growl, whistle "split" harmonics, her lowest notes, AT AGE NINE, dip into baritone register! Then she shows INCREDIBLE breath control and classical vibrato. ASTOUNDING performance. And to think she had the presence of mind to stay truer to the original than anyone else ever has and yet create her OWN ARRANGEMENT is just stunning. And she's also an extraordinary human being. These are some of the reasons she is adored by hundreds of millions of people across the globe.

I think I have figured out something about what makes Angelina exceptional. To start, when you look at a particular genre of music like classical or country or rock, for each genre is a single standard way of singing that every one of its performers follows. But jazz is different. Different jazz singers are often quite distinct from each other in how they sing, and so jazz is more like a whole family of styles. Now what Angelina has done is learn the distinctive styles of many different jazz singers, and then she picks out pieces from various different ones according to the nature of the song and how she has decided to interpret it in a particular performance, and all with great originality and musical understanding. I don't know of anyone else who does this, or at least not to the extent that she does, much less from such a young age.

Thanks Bob for getting to this epic masterpiece of music genius by this little girl of 9 years old. She has been singing since she was a baby of one and a half (started with Whitney Houston) and thanks to her Grandma Mery, Iranian poet/artist, who exposed her to all the great jazz singers of the past, she fell in love with Billy Holiday at a very young age, this young girl has jazz infused into that tiny little body. She has studied music at a school in Norway but vocal coaches decided best to leave that voice alone, she is a natural born vocalist. Have seen other vocal coaches/music teachers that have viewed this cover and one proclaimed that this should be studied in music courses when discussing "child" singers. This is not the voice of a child, already well seasoned with all the intricacies and nuances and techniques, you name it. Angelina listened to and studied this original 1956 classic from Screamin Jay Hawkins and decided on how she wanted it arranged, much closer to the original than any other covers that have been done by other artists. To get a feel for what she did here I suggest you listen to Screamin Jay's original....pretty wild but he was quite talented. Always nice to see you do reactions with Angelina, not very often but still enjoy. Cheers, stay well Bob.🥰🥰

Thank you for featuring Angelina again. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZfaq, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

She is newly 9 years old in this video. Thank you for your insight into the ending, which impresses me for the amount of breath it takes to do that last phrase and long note on one breath. Talk about support from the diaphragm. Also, like you, I appreciate very much the level of professionalism and talent of the musicians surrounding her. Bob, thank you. Grandma Ellen, out.

Thanks for this one, Bob. You were spot on with your assessments - yes, by this age (9 yr, 2 mo) she had spent many, many hours honing her skills and, since the age of 2, she had been listening to and studying all the jazz greats from past generations. Apart from her vocal skills she has a great ear and the ability to dial in a variety of vocal traits from singers she admires and loves so much. You will notice some jazz influences in most of AJ's performances. Angelina is at her best when performing live, in front of an audience.

Angelina was near her 9th birthday when she created this arrangement, then took control of the studio and musicians (who referred to her as the boss) to deliver a powerful, emotional performance. BOB, thank you very much for posting links to the original video, and Angelina's Official KZfaq channel (and a few more links to support her) in the description. When suggesting viewers to read your description please include the invite to use the links to support the artist along with using the links to support your channel. We ALL need reminders to support artists and the reactors alike. Personally, I now watch 2 Angelina videos, in their entirety, each day from either her Official or Cover channel, and LIKE and comment, or reply to other comments. I would encourage you to request from viewers the same for your videos. If fans supported your artists and also your channel in this way, it would boost both of you in the KZfaq algorithm, and recommend yours and her videos to millions more viewers.

Great reminder Andy. I actually left a comparable comment a few weeks ago for Bob and he indicated that this was a good idea. It is certainly the right thing to do since reaction channels cannot exist without the artists. Angelina happens to be a young girl who is a tremendous humanitarian, who wants to spread love and peace through the world through her singing. She deserves all the support and reactors have the platform to provide that. All it takes is a few words to encourage the fans to go to the description and watch, like, share, comment, and subscribe to the artist as well as to the reactors links. Most people do not go to the description on their own, so that encouragement provides the benefit for both reactor and artist. It is all about the KZfaq algorithm and both artist and reactor videos and channels need to be addressed so they're both get equal priority.

Bob, thank you for the wonderful and aware reaction, this song is one of the important steps to understand the singularity of Angelina's talent. It's unreal like her, from a very young person, she choice to use her incredible passion and understanding through music in a splendid way, especially for these legendary songs. She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. 💛🧡❤

There are so many things going on here. The song is quite dark, grown-up, borderline disturbed. That makes the contrast big with a small cute girl. The first thing people notice is her deep voice. And the fantastic vibrato. And then she growls. And squeak. And use various speaking tones. Plays with the rhythm in fascinating ways. She interacts with the band in interesting ways (eg callback). They are all very synchronized. And then she adds a long section of simple vocalization, end it all up with a short solo. Somewhere along the performance, you realize you are deeply touched on an emotional level. All this hit you right in the stomach, again and again, with no chance to recover. I almost ended up drained and flabbergasted first time. Most people seeing this first time think she was born for this type of music. They couldn't be more wrong. Whatever AL takes on, she makes it her own and contributes with something new. I am just as surprised every time.

LMAO, welcome to the barefoot, princess/the girl with 1000 voices. You have only touched the tip of the iceberg, with this musical genius. She was actually nine years old in this video and just so you know, she does all her own arrangements. Some facts about Angeline, she’s also the youngest published author in Norway, she wrote a book about why she seems barefoot. English is not her first language, but she speaks like four languages. She plays 4 to 5 instruments. She is absolutely an angel sent from heaven.

Angelina is a seasoned pro now as she seemed to be one at age 9. She opened for Norah Jones when she was 11 and was invited by Quincy Jones to open his 85th birthday celebration in London when she was 12. He called her the most talented singer since Michael Jackson ( I think she is better at this point). She performed Quincy Jones arrangement of “Fly Me to the Moon” that he did for Frank Sinatra and the Count Basie Band. Look up the rehearsal of this and be blown away!

Not bad for a 9 year old girl! We all have to thank her grandma Mery for playing a lot of jazz music around her to peak her interest in it. We also have to thank KZfaq as well because she used it to search for many legendary jazz singers to watch their performances.. Her major musical influence is Billie Holiday, but she also listen to a lot of Dinah Washington, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald to name a few. She once said that, "If there was no Billie Holiday, there would be no Angelina Jordan." I found that an amazing thing to say for a young girl! There's a reason many people call her the young girl with an old soul....

Yeah..Angelina made history here..not the first time, nor the last! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this! "I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video). You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). "Screamin" Jay Hawkins original "I Put A Spell on You" kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdh-o6tnzt_Tm30.html Since you asked one of my favorites that gets way too little attention from Angelina (at 11yo) is: "Lovin You"(Etta James-I Just Want To Make Love To You) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/j5qHg8Wez825l2g.html Lovin You(same performance without instrumental intro): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9ydpdl2yb-3f40.html Angelina rides the jazz wave like a pro (and lets the dogs out)! Not to be missed!

It's ALWAYS delightful to see 1st reactions to this cover by Angelina.. 9yrs old, but fresh out of winning Norway's Got Talent @ ages 7-8... Two songs (1 acapella) by her idol, Billie Holiday..3rd choice, she sang a Nancy Sinatra song, but won the competition singing Gershwin's classic, SUMMERTIME (ala Ella). Now 17, she stands at the door of SUPERSTAR, w/her first release with Republic Records... Her fan base is global . I'm convinced it will grow exponentially...
