Pro Musician Reacts to Band Maid dice Live first time hearing this song, so it's a Reaction & Analysis combo. From the point of view of a Guitar Tutor and professional musician. Breaking down the music theory and technical elements and critique/review in a hopefully easy enough way to understand, a bit more hands on that a typical react format, the idea being it's more educational that pure entertainment.
Quick guitar lessons on some of Kanami tasty leads and lick in here solo, a run down of where instruments might sit in a mix and then that kickass chucky riff; which sounded like it used natural harmonics, but might just be notes- let me know what you think?

Great breakdown of one of my top Band-Maid songs. Thanks Jack! What's funny to me now is when this song debuted how "hard" many of us all thought this sounded. I laugh at that now when I think of Unseen World and the songs on it, lol. You're right, MISA's tone is sooooo soooo soooo perfect. It is such a unique and dynamic sound. I can't think of another bassist, current or past, who has had such a distinctive tone. Her style, sure there's others who are clearly influences on her, Cliff and Entwhistle come to mind... but nothing beats that tone. I compare her tone to a highly tuned V8 motor. At the lower rpms it just chugs along but as soon as you step on the gas and raise the revs it starts to sing and make the most glorious sounds... all she needs is the pops and burbles on the rpm overrun to complete the sound comparision. :) Thanks again for some great analysis!

Thanks a bunch Brian! Yeah I'm gonna have to try and steal some bass tone tips from her fro sure. I really Tim Commerford's (RATM) tone as well, so have stolen quite a bit from him already 🎶

Sigh-key! Always a treat when you do BAND-MAID. Fans really appreciate it. I’ve always thought this song has a punk vibe and it was cool to see you confirm that almost immediately. The riff breakdown was cool, and the way Kanami plays it here as you described with the harmonics is different than the studio version. I think she might’ve wanted to give it a bit of flair :) definitely give the studio version a listen to compare. This song is a favorite of mine because it’s just a good solid song that a lot of people can get in to. Hope you have a great holiday!

Great job. This is the first song I heard about 3 years ago and had to listen multiple times, then off on a 10 hour journey. If I remember correctly this was #4 and I remember being surprised at the sound at the beginning of the show, it just seemed off. When Dice came on Kanami seemed a bit off as well, if you watch the MV for DICE I think you'll understand. The sound got a lot better later in the show and Kanami was up in the mix. I think at the beginning everyone was a bit nervous, then they settled in and started relaxing as the performance progressed.

@Rabbi_Rabbs 2 жыл бұрын
Oh right on, more Band-Maid! I'm loving that you're returning so often now to that band. Another great breakdown, thank you for that. Yeah, the sound engineer fell asleep on that one, Kanami's guitar sounds muffled and gets smothered in the mix. "Dice" studio recording is better quality. IMO, there are 2 reasons why Band-Maid's live videos normally blow away the songs' studio versions, and neither applies to that clip. Reason (1) is the audience participation, the 6th band member, but that "Dice" video was of a live stream with no audience. Reason (2) is the band members add special call and responses, and jam together onstage, stuff not included in the studio albums. But, that performance of "Dice" added not much from the original. So, without (1) and without (2), when the sound is off, might as well stick with the studio tracks. I learned that if money is tight, use it for Band-Maid Prime self-covers rather than for online audience-less streams. The band members constantly record and upload videos of themselves covering their own material. Many of the clips are amazing, and to me, the best thing the band produced since its 2020 Shibuya concert, the last time the band got filmed performing in front of a live audience. And for only $10 USD per month, we get to watch all of the archived self-covers and that month's fresh material. Akane did an epic cover of "Blooming" that I've watched at least 250 times already. Saiki uploaded fresh acoustic versions of "Blooming" and "Different" that are beautiful. You mentioned that you plan to react to "Different". I recommend you also watch Saiki's solo acoustic version of it. She sings it while playing an acoustic guitar. And, if you want to try that, I'm more than happy to buy your January membership to it.
@JbfMusicGuitar
@JbfMusicGuitar 2 жыл бұрын
Cheers dude, yeah really like their stuff, so tried to forge out more time to check songs out! The audience are pretty much an extra member! Well put dude. They seem to create so much behind the scene content, that's amazing! I really do need to check out these acoustic version at some point. Very kind of you to offer dude, although I'm hoping to take a bit of time off in January, whether I manage or not is a whole different issue 🤣

Good reaction and spot on analysis/breakdown and you’ve picked up on a few trends that happen with band. When the song returns to the main chorus/riff, Band maid almost always changes it up in a noticeable way. Also Kanami, prior to her solo, will start with a note that sounds slightly off which creates tension and anticipation. Kanami usually keeps her solos short & precise, leaving the listener wanting more. Two killer songs where Kanami doesn’t hold back are “Flying High” and “Honey”, which I highly recommend.

Although Band-Maid concerts usually have superbly balanced sound levels, I have heard comments similar to yours about the mix not being right at this May 2021 concert. That said, one of the comments was about the bass level and the other about the lead so who knows? 🤘 Since you asked...phonetically, the vocalist's name is pronounced SIGH-KEY, not SACK-KEY. The others are ARK-AR-NAY, MEE-SAR, KAN-ARM-EE and MEE-KOO. You can add the honorific SAN after all their names but I prefer to use SAMA, which is used for addressing people who one admires and for divinities - and I admire these 5 Rock goddesses immensely! 🤘 The MV for this song is really fine and is, if anything, performed at a slightly faster tempo. 🤘Thanks for explaining so much about how much skill and artistry goes into this song (as with all your analyses of Band-Maid and others) which just makes my admiration for them even deeper.

Hallo Jack. If you want to hear Kanami jamming on her guitar for a longer while see this fancam just for fun. It stars ad 7.20 but I recomment the whole vid. Merry Christmas. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iN6dhcyIrcCXhH0.html

IMHO, the Official music video is much better.... Band-Maid is great live WITH an audience, without and audience....meh. I'd like to know who taught Kanami. I've been an avid fan for almost two years but never watched/read anything on her beginnings as a guitar shredder. I know she plays piano and sings but the guitar beginnings are foggy to me.

I agree. This one sounds "muddy," to me. I don't hear that in other tracks from this show, so I'm not sure what's up.

I tend to just prefer live stuff, for no real reason other than it's live, lmao 🤣 That's a good point Jim, I wonder if she was mostly self taught (the internet becoming a thing was a total game changer in that regard), or if she has a teacher that impacted her style. 🎸🎶

I know, but I like to learn new stuff and try to explain it to folk who might be interested in the 'how and why' behind stuff
