Guitar Tutor Critiques Band Maid, First Time Hearing the song Onset Live with Reaction/Analysis. So I've learned they are not Babymetal or a cover band and that this is an instrumental song... at least a tiny bit more informed than before! 🤣 As usual on top of the analysis we breakdown some of the ideas and concepts going on here!
First time listening to this song, wow filled with great riffs and ideas! As well as reacting from a professional musician and guitarists point of view, we'll breakdown the epic guitar parts; including Miku's groovy rhythm with Kanami's dealy lead as well as her epic tapping solo; and find out why they sounds so cool together! Some serious musicians here in from Band-Maid not just a visual kei gimmick as I had previously foolishly assumed.
Hopefully something new or educational in here for you guys; I've got a whole host of songs to listen to, but it'd be still be great to know who else should I check out? Let me know!

Sir, I take off my hat. This is one of the most in-depth analysis I've ever heard on this song. I have listened to it hundreds of times and today I have learned new things. Thanks for all this amount of information. You are right. In this band the result is much greater than the sum of its parts. Their sense of purpose is something very notorious, they are musicians humble enough not to try to stand out if it is not for the benefit of the song, and at the same time they are very tenacious workers with an almost fierce determination to conquer the world. For me they are an ethical inspiration. They play ALL kinds of music rock; pop, soft, hard, metal, funk, prog or jazz (sometimes in the same song). Their last album, Unseen World has been released in January and its a monument of songwriting.

Thanks for the analysis! Don't worry about talking a lot - it's very interesting hearing the songs and playing getting broken down and given context. I also enjoy hearing about the music theory components. One of the strengths of Band Maid I believe, is that they pull in influences from multiple genres and play around with their sound so that they don't get stale or too predictable. It's also great to see how some of the effects in the music are made. Thanks for demonstrating. I've read that when Kanami writes the music for their songs, she works really hard to ensure that all the band members have their moments in the sun. Maybe not in every song, but overall they all get to be appreciated. As far as Onset goes, it is also sometimes known as Saiki's (lead vocals) pee break. Since you select future songs based on the number of appearances in the comments, let me suggests Play and Different as two interesting future choices for you.

at one point you highlighted the fact that they went back into a section and changed things up a bit. This is one thing i absolutely love about Band-Maid that few people seem to consciously pick up on - and you'll see it again and again as you hear more of their music. Many bands will do the verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure but there will be no variation, it's a straight repeat. Band-Maid (especially once they started writing all their own material) makes every verse feel fresh, whether MISA is changing up the bassline or Akane switches up the drum beat or Saiki and Miku switch lead vocal, etc. It keeps you engaged through the whole song. They really just have such a wonderful handle on songwriting, structure, and melody that is lost in so much western rock since the 90s really.

Sometimes it seems like the main function of a producer for lesser bands is to add tracks to successive verses/choruses to give a feeling of progression. Kanami-sensei's songs don't need it, though she's also smart enough not to rule out an addition that makes the song better.

I use Free The Tone FT-2Y in a series circuit because it adds delays to a set tempo. TimeFactor is used to connect sends and return effects to clean and solo channels. On the other hand, I use H9 only for songs that use reverb. Currently, I only use it for reverb, but I would like to try more algorithms in the future. Wow! That was a very interesting analysis, very informative. Subscribed for more. You shouldn't feel that the likes of the Prodigy or 90's EDM in general should be a guilty pleasure! There was a lot of interesting new forms of music in the 90's in that scene - House, Dance, Acid, Drum 'n' Bass, Jungle, Techno, Trance. Personally, while I loved The Prodigy, Leftfield, FSOL, The Chemical Brothers, KLF and The Orb, I was obsessed with Underworld from 93 onwards. I'd spent 20 years enjoying live Rock gigs (Led Zep in 79, Queen, Zappa, The Who, Pink Floyd, Rainbow and many others) and Metal (Sabbath in 76 with Ozzy, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Iron Maiden, etc) so I found most forms of EDM a really refreshing and interesting new genre to enjoy. Apart from the odd exception - like The White Stripes or Black Crowes or Slipknot - I just listened to those old Rock and Metal albums until I discovered Band-Maid. They have re-ignited my love of Rock, just as the Japanese band Babymetal have done with their unique genre of Metal - Kawaii Metal. BTW, if you think you had a big fan response for Band-Maid, the Babymetal fan base is even keener to share info and tell you all about them - you would definitely need to use that search tool again, damn fine idea that that is! You mentioned it's hard to get a good bass solo - or an interesting one, at least - so I'd have to recommend Babymetal's Rondo of Nightmare, which has a solo from the two guitarists, the drummer and the incredible bassist, BOH, who is extremely revered in Japan and outside for his superb bass skills: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/br1yd8x9srS-k3k.html . .

This wasn't the first Band Maid song I heard, probably the third, but this is the one that opened my eyes wide. Whoa, these girls can play and the little girl with the PRS !!!!!!!! By the time she was tapping I was entranced and I have stayed a convinced fan. It was difficult to equate the sounds from her guitar with the shy, polite little person in interviews. Have since realised that Kanami is a genius and that everyone in the band is mega talented. Their output is prodigious and their work load puts other groups to shame. I play guitar a bit. The only critique I'd have of your videos is the fact you don't rewind a bit after every pause. A lot of times you pause at the most frustrating times (like, in the middle of an awesome transition), which is fine if you have something you want to talk about. But unpausing without rewinding a few seconds ruins that transition. So my only suggestion to potentially improve your videos for viewers like myself would be rewinding a few seconds before each unpause. If you're using KZfaq to watch, you can easily just hit the left arrow key on your keyboard to rewind the video 5 seconds, then press space to unpause.

Thank you! I absolutely love onset and I am so glad that you are looking over it. I appreciate how you go ahead and breakdown what is happening, since as a guitar player it helps me see what is happening and how things are composed. During the tapping line, do you think it is in 16th notes or in triplets? I’ve played it in 16th notes but I find that I am a little off. Maybe my timing is just off but I am not sure. Once again, thank you!
@JbfMusicGuitar
@JbfMusicGuitar 3 жыл бұрын
No problem! Awesome, always good to know those parts are worth diving into! Sure, I'm hearing them as 16th notes, but because they are sort of in groups of 3 (four groups of 3 notes, then two groups to 2 notes- in terms of the accent) it has a displaced feel. A good trick (this is what I did to check it here) is to put the video at half speed a few bars before the section you want to check and count along in 16th notes, when the tapping bit comes along you'll be counting along with each note. The good thing here is that if you're not counting along at the same speed, you can eliminate 16th notes as a possibility! It works for pentuplets and stuff like that as well, which can be pretty tricky to clock at faster tempos as well! ^Hopefully that word salad made a bit of sense?!

“captivating bass solo, so hats off”. Surely you mean Tiny Hats off? If it’s not already been mentioned Mincho (Kanami) uses several delay units (Eventide Time Factor and an H9) but she also uses a Free The Tone Flight Time which has a really neat rhythmn matching feature on board that uses software to match the delay to your playing tempo. I wonder if it is used on this track? I knew about this delay unit and its features before I knew about Band Maid but have never used one. Thinking about getting one but not sure I need it. If I’m honest though, when has that ever mattered? The one who dies with the most pedals wins right?
@JbfMusicGuitar
@JbfMusicGuitar 3 жыл бұрын
Ahhhhhh, what a pun, how could i have missed it?!?! I must be slipping...🤣 Thanks for the rig insight there, yeah that's a good point a lot of delay pedals have a tap tempo as well where you tap the speed in with your foot - I've never owned one of those so tend to forget they are quite common! I mean, if you think you'll use it might be a good shout, if it's just gonna sit in the corner * looks over at disused pedal board * it's maybe not too worthwhile?

Its a reaction video with in depth analysis. What do u expect. If you want lesser stops, theres like a million other reaction videos that just give off no technical input and just say "they are awesome" which isnt fun at all
