The two big things that always stand out to me about BAND-MAID is that 1) in the era since "Alone," they really pack a lot into their songs 2) the balance between the band members, whether it's just four or all five of them, is perfect. As skilled as they all are individually, their cohesion is what makes them great. They're not four or five individuals, they're one unit where the parts all enhance each other.

This is what I love about them. A lot of reviewers/reactors will say something like, "Akane is the glue that holds the band together," or the same thing about Misa, or whoever, but you can listen to the song again, and focus more on what another member is doing, and again on the next member, and what becomes apparent is that they're all, each the essential player. Akane is basically a metal drummer, but the rest of the band keeps her grounded in melodic rock. It's a metal drum part, but it's catchy. Half of the stuff Misa and Kanami play don't make any sense without what the other is playing to contextualize it. No one would have any freedom to play all of their melodies without Miku. The only one you actually don't need is Saiki, given that she's missing from every instrumental, and the Miku-led vocal tracks. (I'm just kidding -- They're better with her, and she seems essential for band and audience morale)

Saiki, the lead vocalist wanted an instrumental as the opening track of the album which she thought would also be great as an opener for the festival dates they played this year, Summer Sonic and Aftershock for example. Kanami of course obliged and this was the result. This was also the opener when they supported GunsNRoses in the massive Saitama Arena on Nov 6th and it sounded HUGE. Otherwise in their normal concert sets this is one of the tracks they will use midway to give Saiki a break.

From Japan　Thank you for BAND-MAID's reaction. They have nearly 130 original songs, 4 of which are instrumental. The 5 members have great talent, but they think they are still lacking, so they are always striving to improve their playing skills. That's why fans are always surprised by new songs.　Enjoy their changing and evolving music.

MISA MISA MISA!!!! The bass player is amazing!!! Kanami, lead guitar, is my favorite member but they are all amazing. Miku makes me smile and I love her for creating this amazing experience. Kanami is the heart and soul of the band and her guitar playing touches me in a way that only Eddie Van Halen has done in the past. Akane the Gorila! I have never had a drummer make me smile and feel emotions like she does. MISA is cooler than Snoopy and the most bad ass bass player around. Saiki is my queen and until I saw her live, in Chicago, I didn't realize how much of an absolute presence she is on stage. She is up there with David Lee Roth and Freddie Mercury for physically and vocally expressing what the music is saying. Her voice is pure gold and velvet mixed together. Love this band 😁

I was going to talk about Misa but I won't now😉 It's the fourth track on the EP to be turned into an MV, after Sense, Unleash!!!!! and influencer. "from now on" is my favourite, not in the talent-showcase kind of a way that a lot of people seem to think was the reason it was turned into an MV, but just in a "I just want to listen to it on a loop" kind of a way.

Fantastic ! But now there are going to be 25 different versions and none of them available in Australia. So I embark upon the long road to the deep north (Basho reference) trying to get myself a copy. I absolutely love these girls, they are phenomenal. Cheers Hedgy. (There it is - over AU$100 to import it from Japan.)

Many of us just recently saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. And the BPM’s matched the DB's! 😶‍🌫Thx, Hedgy!

Mini album used to be an option. Their first three collections were called mini albums with 8-9 tracks each. But, they have chosen to call this one an EP. In the past EP's (Extended Play singles) would be 3-4 tracks. There is some truth re bass players being cool- not so much in the UK but in the US and now Japan. The have also released Unleash (EP title track) and Influencer.

Well, I started out as a drummer, which is my first love. The band I’m in the bass player quit. In our area, a good bass player was hard to find, and a drummer was easy. So I got selected as a bass player. I wish it was true that a bass player is cool. Well, it’s true for Misa/Fami. Whom I’m in love with. A woman and a bass player. With nearly ten years of material. Band Maid continue to evolve and play outstanding music. They are genuinely the real deal. As an opener to the EP it was a great intro and was officially their first instrumental to have a music video. Although they have done plenty of instrumentals in the past. I suppose I better stop now and pretend I am cool and didn't watch until the end. But Misa is cool but then I tend to think they all are.

Very few rock bands can pull off stuff like this. They remind me of some of the 70s fusion bands in the combination of great composition and sheer attack. Thanks for coming back to them. And yes, some people will want to focus on a favorite player, but the band would not be the same without any one of them.

Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。(FYI, Band-Maid and Kami Band have been good friends for years. Ohmura and BOH prasied B-M's recent performance on Twitter and Kanami replied to it happily.) B-M is an excellent band under the guise of maid outfit. It works as a kind of red herring creating a shocking gap on purpose between their appearance and skills. "From now on" has been so far played in the middle of the setlist in their one-man (or one-person) concert. But they played it as an opening at two festivals in Summer Sonic (Japan) and Aftershock (USA). Then did it again when they open the concert of Guns N' Roses in Japan on Nov.6. I felt very proud of them. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who did not know who the girls in maid outfit on the stage were. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄

Next year is their 10th anniversary and they will tour and Europe is on their short list.

yes, you are correct. They do great instrumentals, but their vocalists are absolutely top notch and although they sing mostly in Japanese with a few English phrases, they sing with so much feeling that you'll love them anyway and want to look up the translations (if the CC doesn't work). rhythm guitar/2nd vocal Miku Kobato skillfully writes the majority of their lyrics. Since 2016 they have taken responsibility for writing and producing their own music; very much the "We Can Do This" Punk Ethic. They're very organized and work seemingly tirelessly. Every member of this band has been singled out for their achievements which are many.

They released three other videos from the EP or mini-album or whatever. One is an opening for the anime Platinum End called "Sense", one is"Unleash!!!!!" (five members, five exclamation points), and one is "Influencer". Miku Kobato has written the majority of their lyrics over the years, but Saiki Atsumi wrote the lyrics for two songs on the EP, "Corallium" and "Hate?" - Kobato tends to be more poetic, using metaphor and double meaning. Atsumi is very direct and says what's on her mind. If you listen to "Hate?" you will have absolutely no problem understanding her.

Misa's outfit before this one was an elegant Chinese maid outfit in black with front laces...now she looks like an auto mechanic(albeit a pretty one)...the silly gorilla hat she gave to her best friend Akane gave her drumming 'gorilla force' she's adapted to whole heartedly that is endearing to the Maids fanfare! Another comment of Kanami is that her outfit is 'grannie maid' (meant 'I think' to be funny)...kinda going with that one but, her earlier outfits did go high on the legs with her feet apart while shredding! With that said...as a group together she would lift Miku's skirt in their photo shots, (and on stage) all in fun...then Miku called Kanami Japanese 'Hentai' or (perv) U.S. Tour to huge audience laughter! Can't script their live gigs! Ha-ha ha! Finally Saiki's, kool goth-ie upgrade or a little more revealing so to speak...totally they Rock!

Okay, I'll be that guy. Misa, from what I recall, wasn't overly happy with the idea of wearing the sort of maid outfits that Miku and Kanami wear and so chose what I believe is referred to as the "assassin" maid look (ie, the sort of disguise an assassin would wear to get close to their target). I think she made the right choice.

Misa originally had to wear the silly hat that she passed onto Akane who found it uncomfortable and was glad when it was chucked. As they have become older the outfits I think suit them better.

@@russellpotter7294 MISA literally threw the tiny hat along with her apron into the garbage and Akane took it out and started wearing it because she didn’t want to make Miku sad. Miku eventually found out that it hurt Akane’s head when she was drumming and banished it altogether. P.S. I did watch until the end. MISA!-MISA!-MISA!!!

The best thing about top notch instrumentals is that they find and grab the attention of the more accomplished music listener. Compliments won’t be “it has a good beat!” It is an exercise of true musicians emotionally connecting with pure hearted music fans. I like to think the Maids were aiming high with this release. And in my opinion? Laser strikes to the heart ❤️ I was an interested bystander after my first couple Band-Maid songs. This one left me a dumbstruck fan.

They can do metal but they're not a metal band.....more like rock/hard rock......unless there's a "soft metal" genre....Lol! Zazoos ROCK!!!! There is a cowbell in their 2021 "Unseen World" album on "Chemical Reaction" if that counts.

If an EP means extended play because it is more than a single/45, and a LP is a long play 12" album with 9-14 tracks, I would imagine an eight song "offering" would be a MP, or medium play? Actually, if I remember correctly, 78 rpm vinyl was sometimes 10", but they were just called 78s, but that wouldn't make sense for a CD, would it?

For some reason I always mix upp BAND-MAID and BABYMETAL (I know, shame on me...) but from now on I'll make an effort to distinguish them from each other. This was really good and I'll be sure to check out more from this EP! Avatar released a new song recently ("The Dirt I'm Buried In") too. Imho, the earlier two singles from them this year is better but this was a suprising new kind of sound to them! Would love to hear your thoughts on the new stuff from them aswell!
