During Omajinai-Time in Hamburg in summer 2019 Kanami shouted "Katahaba", that means wide shoulders, and I think, that describes very well, how Kobato put a lot of loads on it to keep BAND-MAID running. No wonder that she often has a stiff body and has to do some workout.

The only modern band I listen to. And about the only music videos I watch (mostly I just watch concert footage/documentaries of other bands).

Them, LoveBites and OF COURSE, BABYMETAL. 3 of the best metal bands on Earth. And they're all tiny Japanese women lol. They're just destroying every other band.

I had a very similar reaction to yours. I'm a bit younger, born in '63, but the first video I saw -- going down that KZfaq rabbit hole, was "Thrill." I could not believe what I was seeing and hearing. I literally said out loud to no one but myself -- Are you fucking serious? Are you fucking serious?! Are these girls for real? -- well, that was one night in mid 2017, I think. I was instantly hooked. I also saw the videos for Real Existence and Don't let me Down right after that. yes, these girls are for real and they aren't fooling. I have not been this excited about a band in at least 20-25 years. I could care less that most of their lyrics are in a strange language that I don't understand, they are simply amazing! Got to meet them in person at the preshow meet and greet in LA 10-1-19 and they could not have been nicer or more fun. Their live show was incredible and high energy. Mioku is unstoppable! Can't wait til this Covid thing is under control so our Girls can feel safe to travel and come play for all of again. And again and again, po!

There is something incredibly sexy about her "bitch" look. It's unbearably hot. Like: "Just take me, I don't care."

Maybe she's just a little fried/homesick, then again, she's probably heard that description about a thousand times. -There's even a moment there 5:25 , where she's looking up and off to the side, and it's almost like she's trying to picture herself standing on a deserted tropical beach, but, no matter how hard she tries, she can't quite hear the seagulls. So, reluctantly, she returns. 5:30 -Annnnd, she's back.

She always looks like this on the interviews. The other girls are smiling, nodding their heads and she always just stands there with a forlorn look on her face. I had read something about her bad teeth but didn't notice it when she was singing but they are pretty bad. Can't somebody afford an orthodontist. These girls should be filthy rich, they are the best band in the world.

Yeah, Saiki is a bitch and she doesn't shy away from it. Before i started listening to interviews i always had a feeling that she was one but when she insulted Kanami in an interview by calling her "simple" and the rest of the band jumped to Kanami's defense, Saiki had to save face and compliment Kanami. Since then i just enjoy looking and listening to Saiki but couldn't care less about her besides that. Kanami is to be revered, that is all.

^ this and exactly this. And it's not just this interview. It's the same for a solid year of interviews at least. Either Miku and Saiki are playing an intentional "kawaii-cop/bad-cop" routine in interviews, or at least Saiki realizes that the whole Maid schtick is not actually what makes this band important, especially to international fans. What's impressing people overseas is that they're serious musicians who are making great music -- but with this weird Maid gimmick. That gimmick does more to distance them from western audiences than to bring them closer. In fact, just imagine what an exciting event it would be if Band-Maid, just once, all did a live show dressed however the hell they wanted as individual performers -- without the restriction of the planned Maid aesthetic. #SaveSaiki from that maid outfit.

Without Miku and her idea of doing it this way. Creating this interest and Aura around this band. None of them would have been discovered in the first place. So let's give the little pigeon a break and the proper respect she deserves ! No Miku, no Band Maid. Therefore no great music !

Actually the maid thing is how I discovered them. Most people here in the west that I've talked to about metal and hard rock know of band maid. I know there are other all female metal and rock bands in japan but don't know them as well as band maid. It's pretty much band maid or baby metal and everyone else is a haze.

@@egolayer13 Saiki and MISO have already kind of done their own thing with the costumes. I wouldn't call those maid uniforms. I do think the maid outfits days are numbered. I expect these girls will be around for decades. I think they'll eventually grow out of the outfits just like Kiss grew out of the makeup... and then back into the makeup. So maybe they'll go back to the outfits when they hit their late 40s.

You're right about Miku. Even when the others are staying in character, Miku usually makes it very difficult to maintain your composure. There's an interview where she nearly made Saiki crack.

They draw you in with their look (and their looks) but once hooked you discover that Band Maid is made up of three extremely talented musicians (and a solid rhythm guitarist in Miku) and two amazing vocalists.

It's their personality lol. They don't pretend those. For some reason some people usually get the wrong idea of them faking it for the band when it's not. Misa and Saiki are the quietest ones usually or kinda serious/distant.

I remember them stating that their public (as in "stage/interview") persona is a 10x amplified version of their personality; my interpretation of this is that it's the amplified version of their public persona (see "tatemae" over "honne"), for a specific example, for the very limited exposition we get to Saiki's public attitude even when out of stage character is that she tends to approach her surroundings with a bit of detachment, and take her time to carefully evaluate the environment; it's not different by any of us really, we chose our way to present (or to not present) ourselves to other people and navigate through our everyday experiences. What's their "honne", nobody can say and this is - in my opinion - it's way better if it stays this way, both for them - and for us. For example, I'm sure there must be moments they are tired of all of this - and maybe they can have a differing opinion or taste or their unpleasant moment, because it's effin normal to have them being - you know - normally functioning human beings; but for some reason some individuals among fans cannot accept it and would get hurt - for someone else being human in addition of having a job and a passion - a reason I cannot really understand.

@@hlb979 your description of saiki's off stage/non interview persona sounds like a David Attenborough description of an animal in its natural habitat lol "and here we have the rare species of singer called saiki, when exploring her turf she can be very cautious not to alert predators to her location" lol But as they've said in countless interviews they only "exaggerate" their personality in public but they don't actually put on a character like real maids in maid cafes do, the band's only gimmick is they wear maid outfits on stage while playing heavy rock music since it's unique and unexpected to fans of their genre. In saying that miku-po probably puts on her weird speech pattern to add to her naturally cute and playful personality but other than that they don't fake it.

Misa and saiki always look drunk or hung over in interviews lol, doesn't take away from their talent and sex appeal though. This interview though misa looks more sober than saiki which is usually the reverse lol.

Do any of you know why Miku always uses the -po sentence ending?
