I'm staying with my original contention that the shoot was made in the general vacinity of Trona, located 82-96 highway miles northeast of Mojave. The Mojave Desert, east of Lancaster and Palmdale, is largely featureless, rot-gut desert to the horizon, with it's only redeeming feature being the Joshua Trees (creosote bush and desert sage don't rate). The rock formations don't even begin to get interesting until you cut into the alluvial plain near Phelan, on the north face of the San Gabriel, then San Bernadino, mountains and approach Cajon Pass. On the other hand, if you head northeast out of Mojave, the land is fairly boring (albeit rockier) for many miles, until you get into the vacinity of Searles (the point where the company-owned Trona Railway connects with the Union Pacific's Jawbone Branch -- not even a town, really). As you continue towards the mining community of Trona, the rocks start to look much like those in the video, particularly from the area near The Pinnacles and into Trona itself. (Trona is the "big town" in the area; in the last census, it's poulation was listed as "8 residents". In at least two scenes of the BM video, in the very distant background, you see light reflecting off of what could be railroad cars on the Trona Railway (the distortion caused by use of the telephoto lens, and by atmospheric anomalies -- caused by rising heat waves -- make a definitive identification quite difficult).
