I tend to prefer games that have a good in universe reason to work together, but that could be a downside for you?

I love this game, I've previously called this my favorite TTRPG. I really click with its touchstones like Black Company and Myth 2: Soulblighter I like your review overall but there is one thing I feel you missed: this game is more complex than Blades in the Dark. It adds 2 effect levels and this is absolutely a game you can lose. Thanks for the review, Lexi! Love your work

Sounds like this would be the perfect system for a Warhammer 40k imperial guard RPG along the lines of Gaunt's Ghosts

I feel that in game world motivations for player characters working together is great not only as it streamlines the reason why these potentially disparate group of individuals are together .

Hello, new to the channel! What great timing too, as I just received my copy of Band of Blades yesterday! I'm a big fan of the Black Company series and hope to run this solo. Have you played through the dozen or so built-in campaign missions, and/or have any plans to homebrew past that?

I think it's a neat idea. I'm not sure PbtA entirely fits the military narrative at a tactical level, but it would work really well for everything else. I think you've sold me on this one. Also, just email Evil Hat. What's the best that can happen? 😁 They've been really cool with me in the past, so I don't imagine I'm throwing you lions. Good luck! Just do it. 💛🤗

This seems more to my liking than Blades in the Dark (I don’t like Heist stories). I will check it out when I can.

I love this game. It's very much the Black Company with the numbers filed off. If you like that, you will like this. In terms of the game flow, it's got an arc. You are trying to get to a safe location to hold over for reinforcements. It's a lot like "The Empire Strikes Back" in that it's a really compelling "middle" of a story that can stand on its own. It starts with an ass whupping that took place just before you begin play and ends with a cliffhanger. Who knows what will happen after you reach the place you will winter over? It leaves you wanting more in the best way. Unlike many RPGs, this one has a set end point AND it has a scoring system. You can make different choices at set up and replay the game and hope for a better final score.

I've had the pdf for years, and have been dying to play the whole time. As a Black Company fan, it's such a cool take on the concept

Hey, I wrote a hack for FitD that uses the enneagram in place of the standard array of action rolls. I like your delivery style- are you putting out any Actual Plays?

Many of my favorite games all have a beginning, middle and an ending. This sounds like it fits the bill. I'd also recommend The Watch for folks who are interested in similar themes but with an added examination of toxic masculinity.

The game looks interesting but the lore sounds like an almost identical rip-off of Dark Souls
