After hearing TxSU in this battle, I think I’m even more interested in hearing them in the spring when Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band season starts. That’s when you can REALLY tell the level of musicianship a program has to offer. I’m expecting to be wowed if this is what they’re bringing! 💯

The director with the dreads for TxSU has always been a beast with the pen. He was like that when we marched together at JSU as well. Trent has always been an all-around musician and he does push you to be a beast on whatever horn you play.

I find it funny how Su folks is quick jump on TSU bandwagon and say Jackson lost to TSU, but will be in complete utter denial when people say they lost to TSU. If they want Jackson to admit to a L, hold SU to the same standard. If we're being honest Jackson sounded better against TSU than SU did against them, I won't take it away from The ocean, they had great song selections, amazing arrangements, and probably one of the more diverse books. Minus little kinks and execution issues they are pretty enjoyable to listen to. This battle is honestly a tie in my opinion,

All bands are going to be influenced by someone and/or have influences that come from a different program. Allow them to teach the kids to be great musicians. At the end of the day these kids are playing their butts off day in and day out. I understand rivalry and team loyalty but give credit and respect where it’s due. It takes confidence, nerve and talent to even attempt what these BD expect. Whether they brought the full band or not, they did underestimate TSU. TSU has something to prove and they do it daily. Salute to you Ocean 🌊 of Soul!

Another TSUnami- TSU win. Simmons exposed the playbook and his band showed out. These BD are literally not ready for him. He brought his high energy style and specifically went after Dr. Little's playbook. The first two 5th qtr selections were awesome, complex and layered (Jazz & Classical), and to me, meant to challenge Dr. Little's playbook. This is how deep Mr. Simmons is....Nov. 6th was National Saxophone Day and his band played an Award Winning Jazz song. Now, Dr. Little is savvy and smart knowing this was his first time playing against TSU in awhile, he kept it funky and familiar. The mashup was off the chain. Dr. Little is missing 1 or 2 band members which made them off a bit and probably why they didn't respond to the Jazz tune. The Sonic Boom made waves but not enough, again you can tell they are missing 1 or two members. We all know how the saying goes..... if you want to be the baddest you got to beat the baddest. If the other band plays a Spanish tune, then your band plays Carlos Santana Maria or anything from Carlos. if the other band plays Classical, like Simmons did, then your band plays Classical with some black music mashed up in it. TSU with the win hands down.

Def was a GOOD battle! Wish they had a Zero Quarter, maybe JSU got there late but man , this was long overdue . I think if they had more time they would have battled longer, I honestly think this was a close battle, song and arrangement wise. TXSU improving every week, JSU let us hear something this time around. Sounded good imo , although I don’t think they took TXSU as serious as they took SU. JSU edged this one but TXSU gave them a good lasting impression and their motion is on another level bruh tbh😅

Valiant effort on Lingus, but I think there's a reason symphonic songs are mostly shied away from in marching season because they are written intricately more for dynamics in an auditorium than a stadium where you need to project. Playing loud on symphonic songs leads to overplaying and bad notes. Not a fan of it. If you listen to any marching band in the spring you'll hear what TxSU was playing in their first two songs. I like the songs TxSU played against SU. Those songs were intricate but they were more marching tunes than symphonic

TxSU did not win the first round. Just playing a song you don't expect in the 5th does not get you a win. It was ok but not enough to win. TxSU lost round 2 for sure as well. Those first two songs they played were nice, but let's not act like that's what you're going to get 90% of the time. It seems like they just played them to prove they're not just trying to be SU. Round 3 certainly wasn't impressive for them at all. I'll call the 4th round a tie. We left the door open for them, and they didn't even take the opportunity. TxSU sounded like they were running out of gas in round 5. They sounded like a typical SU imitator. Song sounds like much of nothing, then they punch on a bunch of notes or do a cranking part. All the hype surrounding TxSU. I just don't see it. This was 4-0-1 at worst 4-1-0 or 3-1-1. I'm not surprised at all KB has it close. He kind of leans towards to the SU sound, and they played a song he really likes

jsu won this battle with ease. as u can see this is jsu travel band. jsu had no chip on its shoulder against su. botb was all jsu. txsu has arrangement that it can't execute. that sharky song wasn't clear at all. txsu got jsu and su on staff and still taken L. I will say txsu is consistently improving.
