Bought a Beocord 2000 from eBay for £60, set of belts also from eBay for £15, and thanks to this video, was able to fit them easily - it's now fully working and matches my existing Beomaster 2000 amp, which looks so cool. Thanks!

Don't know why but I could spend hours watching you repairing this beocord...I'm simply impressed...turning things working so so to working perfectly well....

Howdy, from across the pond. Thanks for the amazing how-to! I picked up a Beomaster 3000 set at an estate sale and, surprise! The Beocord 2000 is in dire need of new belts. (All the Beogram needed was a needle; think I got lucky.) Anyway, thank you for such a clear tutorial on what I will need to do to get the tape deck back to functional. Now to source the belts…

Hey there! Thanks. I think I ended up using belts just lying around in stock here that just 'fit'. I wish I'd kept this one! Those beogram cartridges and needles aren't cheap. I always wanted to 3d print some sort of adaptor to use something more traditional, because they do come up cheap for sale due to expensive and hard to find cartridges / stylus etc

Thanks for finding me the flap release button. Not got round to servicing mine yet but was curious how to open the thing besides direct force.

Thank you that's a great video I scored a beocenter 2200 from a church sale. They actually threw the speakers out and I found the unit and saved it. Brought it home taped out didn't work I ordered new belts, three of them install them it is working now but the rewind just seems to jiggle. Looks like it's supposed to have a belt on it but I'm guessing they're just interchangeable, from the manufacturing process. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks that's a great video you made!

If you record 3khz in this deck, and play it back to test if it is 3khz, it certainly will play back in 3khz. What you should do is rather, take a cassette with a sound track which has exact 30 min run time, play it on this deck with timer running. That way at end of track you must have 30 min on clock.

Cool restoration. Those keyholes in the back of the case looks like you might be able to mount this on a wall or at least some sort of inclined surface.

Try Elbow Grease Degreaser on rubber belt residue and it will off in seconds. Follow with IPA.

I'm editing this week's video now and I can appreciate how boring it can sometimes be. I really am cutting out a lot of chaff and trying to stick to relevance. I'm getting better I think!

@@pwrestoration I quite like the editing. It's rare to be able to focus on one thing at a time. But it takes sooo long. BTW great tip for removing old belts with cardboard, I'll try that. I would have been interested in seeing that in the video too.

Thanks for the heads up on that - I'll demo it next time I see some belt gunk! It really does make a 20 minute job done in a few minutes

That was great Thank you \. where do you get the belts from?
@pwrestoration

I think it was a case of just finding some in my stock that fit! I generally buy packs of belts by the 100 / various sizes and go from there. They're actually cheaper than buying one!

Digressing. Have you done a similar strip down on a Hitachi piano key deck of late ‘70s? I have issues with my D560 and need to delve into the tape mechanism but need guidance.
@pwrestoration
@pwrestoration 4 ай бұрын
I haven't but they're all very similar in the 70s silver front era, just get a screwdriver and get into it 👍

Good Job! Why you don't you use Din to Rca adapter instead of changing all the wires??
@pwrestoration

I guess it's a combination of preference, not having to have yet another adaptor, and I just wanted to have a bit of a play and install some RCA plugs 😄

Restoring my 2000 I have tried some looser belts but still will not turn with any belt applied, and spins freely with no belt. That probably leaves me at trying to identify a replacement motor if no other options. The MMI-6A2RK motor seems hard to source. Do you have any suggestions as far as a alternate replacement motor?
@pwrestoration
@pwrestoration Жыл бұрын
If you're confident it's the motor, any 12v clockwise cassette motor will do it!

I'm restoring the same B&O 2000 and I tried to get the same belt size you showed in the video at 22:48, but when I put it in place the motor won't turn anymore. If that is the right belt size per your belt size video, does this mean the motor is going bad and doesn't have the torque to turn it?
@pwrestoration
@pwrestoration Жыл бұрын
That's a difficult one, with the belt in place does it feel really tight? Can you take hold of the belt in between the pulleys and twist it 180 degrees?
@aluke000
@aluke000 Жыл бұрын
@@pwrestoration Thanks for betting back to me, it's snug but not super tight, so you can twist it with your fingers. I notice with the belt removed and the smaller bronze pulley would spin on its own too

Whats the best oil / grease to use on a cassette mech?
@pwrestoration
@pwrestoration Жыл бұрын
I like to use basically sewing machine oil. It's called Slug Slime and it's on eBay. For grease I use Molycote DX.

At 26:48, you've threaded the rubber belt incorrectly and opposite to what it needs to be. The 2 parts of the belt must be on the SOLENOID side of the Brass Pulley. Also R8 is a 4.7 Ohm resistor, NOT a 47 Ohm.

Did this company EVER make a direct drive deck? All this pretentious wank, but no stereo meters (usually a single line on LEDs and not two) and no direct drive? These guys are almost as bad as BOSE.
@pwrestoration
@pwrestoration Жыл бұрын
There's a lot to unpack there.. I don't think they made a direct drive deck. But that's also, IMO, not a pinnacle of cassette engineering. Technics made plenty, and although their looks were quite generic they were good. The B&O stuff is an odd one, but yes I think they were going fashion over function in some cases. The die hard recording fan wasn't their audience, probably just the average guy with a bit of cash and some tapes.
@jameslaidler2152
@jameslaidler2152 Жыл бұрын
@@pwrestoration I find that rather ironic considering they invented HX-Pro, which really was a game changer for tapes. I took your advice about Technics too, even some of their 2 head jobs were quartz lock direct drive. Who does that? Anyway, they're all in the UK and Europe, so shipping will be brutal, but I'll get there.
