People say that Sykes beat Roy Shaw twice in a matter of seconds. A total mismatch, as Roy was much the smaller man. Against McLean, again Sykes would have been far too good and it would have been stopped very quickly or McLean would have been knocked out in round 1 or 2 as Sykes was a very powerful man with decent technique. Fields would have faired a bit better, but as he was smashed up by Richard Dunne ( who was nothing special) again I'd have to go for Sykes because of his better technique, although Fields would definitely of had a puncher's chance! I agree with Shaunmufc58 though and a sober and fit Sykes beats them all, and that would have included John L Gardner.

Paul was riddled with problems , he was a Alcoholic and spent 26 Years behind Bars in his younger life , if Paul Skye’s had a different path in life he would have beaten the lot of you guys , he was a machine, Powerfull and a very good fighter , rip mr Skye’s , your troubled life if over !

Paul Sykes friend Clyde something said that Paul beat Roy 2 times, the 1st time paul won in 15 seconds and the 2nd fight Paul won in 20 seconds, so he'll I don't know what to believe Ray. I know a few people who knew paul sykes who was always bad with drink especially after he jacked in pro boxing. I could be wrong on this but i heard alex steen paid sykes half the money for the mclean fight up front and he ran off with the money and thats why alex steen didnt like him,as i say i could be wrong its only what iv heard. As far as who i think would win roy shaw was a middle weight so sykes vrs shaw would be an easy win for sykes who had already beaten shaw up once before,in the nick i think. Mclean vrs sykes i would say sykes because of the difference in level which they had fought and if you watch mclean vrs shaw he hit shaw about 20 times and shaw was still up,paul sykes had a much harder punch than mclean. I cant comment on anything about cliff fields as i dont know much about him. Just my oppinion. Paul sykes did sparring with top level heavyweights of that time, joe fraisier,leon spinx,larry holmes and not a lot of people know george foreman absolutely battered him, if you take those names into account and look at mclean he fought a dusbin man mountainman york which is on youtbe, if you compare them names its a commical comparison. One thing i do remember about cliff fields was a mate of mine was looking after a building sight in dunstable and there was a big drunk who i think he said was living rough or he lived near him or something and that was cliff fields,my mate took pity on him and would give him food ect,he did say he was a tall bloke wiv one eye a shadow of his former self. Paul sykes ended up with kids hitting him so they could say they had beat him,cowards but all this happened because of the demon drink😢 i also know people who wont even talk about sykes because of the evil things that he did..

Shaw, Mclean and the rest were atrocious boxers, lumbering savages and street thugs without the technique, nous, guile or fitness. Any decent pro (including Sykes) would have absolutely destroyed them in the ring. (McLean would have failed the drugs test as well). PS Shaw could have been a serious middlewieght, but the fool spent his best years in the nick instead.

Sykes chinned every one went to America so he was class… no disrespect to you Ray but there’s no video footage of you apart from a split second in box on… he fought for a British title after a few fights… and he was a enforcer to boot so you can’t knock him… he didn’t fight McLean cos he was nicked for chinning a few bouncers while he was in training camp… I know him as much as you Ray and I’m no one he was a bully he was banged up with the old school boys and they wouldn’t of let him be around them if he bummed geezers… you have said yourself about blokes you was with in Albany who liked to bum a boy or two
