Banks cannot Charge for this

Banks are allowed to charge up to 3 yrs of rent + charges of breaking the locker from customers. So they may ask you to create an FD, but this has to be of a small amount, not any exorbitant fees like what happens on ground level. This is just to make sure that banks are protected for a situation where the locker holder does not pay rent on time or is unreachable for some years.
So if locker rent is Rs 4,000, the FD - they can ask you shall be for Rs 12,000 + some more charges like Rs 500-1000. So in total, it shall surely not cross 4 times the rent in any situation.
If the bank official asks you to create an FD for 2-3 lacs or forces you to buy any kind of insurance policy, then please tell them you are aware of rules and you will complain to RBI on this.

@Aditya Narayan In case you are not using the locker for more than three years and not contactable as well then break breaks the locker in presence of lawyer and police officials / In case of deceased the locker gets break open in front of lawyer and policemen and nominee then the charge is taken from your FD only.

This surely works when i went to avail locker facility in Canara Bank same situation happened but i was asked 50000 as a FD while my rent was 4000 so i told the manager same thing and she declined so i showed her the article then she settled the F.D. at 12000 bruh I was amazed

TBH isme bank manager ya employee se zyada bank ke head branch ki galti hoti hai. Bank ke heads ne unko apni employee t&c mein zarur bola hoga ki jitna hamara profit karoge utna tumhe commission ya promotion milega. Agar vo seedhe seedhe penalty laga de for these wrong practices, the aisa kuch hoga hi nhi 🤔🤔

Tejas bhai, I would like to share something here- Even being an 20 year old customer I faced same issue with PNB asking 20k for same reason, I read RBI rules which state that NO DEPOSIT shall be taken from existing customer. When I gave them printed copy of this rules after that bank agreed to waive off the charges.

Even a government bank like Sbi asks for 30k fixed deposit, which is approx 10 times their yearly rent. These videos are good for entertainment, in real life unfortunately this does not work

Even as a Banker I appreciate what Tejas Joshi is doing. Spreading awareness is a nice gesture. However I doubt why his area is limited to banking services only. He should add police matters and lawyer matters as well, that is unless he is scared of doing so.

As an RBI guidelines no one can sleep in bank if someone break this rule we can charge them upto rs.9,000 so you sleep for one day so that must cost rs.1200 😂😂

This happened with me in Indian Bank. Branch manager told me to open a fd account for the locker. Gave a complaint email to nodal officer of the area(before going to ombudsman). Nodal officer asked clarification to branch manager and kept me into the copy with the mail. After many weeks, branch manager called and confirmed that there is no rule as such to open fd for locker facilities.
