Mia Amor Mottley, Prime Minister, Minister for National Security and the Public Service, and Minister for Finance, Economic Affairs and Investment of Barbados, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations (New York, 20-26 September 2022).
Addressing the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the UN on Thursday (22 Sep), Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said, “a Security Council that retains the power of veto in the hands of a few will still lead us to war, as we have seen this year.”
Mottley stated, “It is just within our power, to be able to make that difference and that definable change, and we must decide whether we want to stand for peace, or whether we want to stand for love and whether we want to stand for prosperity, knowing that we choose to do so at the most difficult time and from the most difficult and deep place that we can do so, in a very, very long time.”
She said, “The century in which we live does not only demand of us the eradication of poverty, which remains a noble goal, but it demands of us equally, the protection of global public goods. All of us in here have suffered as a result of the weakest of us being unable to rise to the occasion for the protection of public health.”
Talking about climate change, Mottley also said that any attempt to deny that the climate crisis has manmade origins is “an attempt to delude ourselves and to admit that we want to be accomplices in the continued death and loss and damage that ensues to the people who are the victims of it.”
She stated, “We can't be lost in a conflict and lost in the climate crisis, and lost in the pandemic, and forget fundamentally what our mission is. I commend those who continue to remember that, but I ask for us to reach a global compact that Financing for Development cannot be short-term financing and that it needs to be at least 30-year money.”
She continued, “This is our world, and this is our time to make that defining difference. And many of the things that have put before us today don't require money, but they require a commitment, and they require political will.”
She concluded, “With the power of the pen, we can impose natural disaster and pandemic clauses in our debt. With the power of the pen, we can change the capital that is available to multilateral development banks, that will remove the barriers that currently exist for us to fight poverty. With those commitments, we can make a difference in today's world and let us do so recognizing that a world that reflects an imperialistic order and hypocrisy and lack of transparency will not achieve that mission.”

Her eloquence, wisdom , memory, intelligence, truthfulness, fearlessness, diplomacy, and above all, honesty has surpassed most leaders of the world, this is a class of its own, not even leaders from western countries can match this wonder of the world. I have watched the speech with passion and disbelief.

Sadly, we cann't expect too much good from this UNGA powwow dance of distraction. The only thing that really worries most of our hypocrite high-level representative is that the climate of faith may change away from tolerated global mobbing (blockades and sanctions) and looting (raw material ressources) towards a fair global cooperation demanded by the majority of peoples. But I definitely want to support the words of Barbados' PM Mottley: The rules of the UN Security Council and its quorum could still be modernized during the General Assembly too: Abolition of the right of veto for cross-border aggressors (eg Russia) and reduction of the yes quorum for peacekeeping missions to a 2/3 majority. After all, all UN Security Council states have already armies that could be sent within a frame of a short-term UN coordinated task force to ensure FAIR referendums in disputed areas (eg Donbas and Luhansk, Jammu and Kashmir, Tibet and Xinjiang...) Barbados together with Pakistan are one of those few remarkable countries which highlighted this essential topic. Most of our hypocrite high-level elites talk in disguise about oppressing their own people through Covid, controlling them with security laws, indoctrinating them with schools, seducing them with money funding, hiring suitable (company) minions, embezzling the intellectual property, addicting them with fertilizers, blackmailing them by food monopolies, plundering them by energy prices and decimating them with vaccines. For improvement, we urgently need to implement TRIPLE ASSESSMENT in all our govern-mental systems!

I am glad that she reminded the audience the very existence and essesnce of the so called " United Nations". And brought key points of its problems for decades specifically to some leaders under G 7, G 20, and its allies in abusing powers. Finally, she gave reminders, key solutions to the problems, and encouraged everybody to be united in resolving global undertakings for world peace and prosperty. I salute you Madam PM! This is the type of people you get when you have a system that allows only the very best to lead you. Not a corrupt, tribalistic and nepotistic system we have all over Africa. I pray Africa gets it right one day and lives up to her full glorious potential for all the world to see.

Mia is, as always, insightful and inspiring. One aspect that seem still beyond the UN's consideration is that the representation should be based on population, not wealth nor a representative for each nation - that is true democracy.

"We are the world" what a privilege we have to witness and listen to a prophetic human being of our lifetime who can vision world crises from its micro chromosome origins. She stops not but provides solutions to all she echoed. May our leaders take home her message and make drastic changes ASAP.

Suggesting a change to Bretton Woods agreements because they are outdated is addressing one of the "invisible elephants" in the world. THANK YOU! In addition, having a tangible vision for addressing major world issues as drafted by the best minds in her country is bold step. Having the courage to quote from the song "We Are the World" shows her deep respect for the power of the people. THANK YOU!
