The song "Put the Blame on Mame", written by Allan Roberts and Doris Fisher, was originally made popular by Rita Hayworth in "Gilda" in 1946 (sung by Anita Kert Ellis). In 1956, Barbara Hale (who started shooting the pilot of "Perry Mason" the same year, a TV show that would bring her an Emmy and everlasting fame) interpreted the song in one of her more unusual films, "The Houston Story", as platinum blond moll Zoe Crane.
The film was once available on VHS - do get it if you like what you see and are into noir. It's a worthwhile treat, especially if you're interested in the many screen faces of Barbara Hale before she became Raymond Burr's lovely Della Street or if you're fond of Gene Barry (who would, as only Hollywood can arrange it, later be represented by Perry Mason in "TCOT Lost Love" and thus reunite with his former co-star in 1987).
