Hi Guys,
This video was shot a while ago, but all this Baselworld stuff got in the way. I visited the Bremont factory in Henley in February this year. Then I visited the Bremont Town House in London a month later.
My feelings towards Bremont have changed. I really appreciate the journey they are on. They are at the start of their watch journey, compared with more established brands like Omega, Rolex, IWC etc.

I have had a Bremont MB2 Orange as my daily wearer for the past six years. I also own Rolex Subs, Sea dweller, moonwatch etc. The watch has been accurate, reliable, durable and bombproof. I recently had it serviced and what came back was a virtually new watch.Only the case back , movement , dial and winder were not changed. New crystal, orange case side, bezel, lugs, date wheel, hands etc all replaced. I know because they sent the old parts back. I paid £2800 six years ago, I could sell it to trade for £2200. Too much snobbery. All brands have to start somewhere.

I have an MBII, so why did I spend the money? I was in the RAF and everyone who had a posh watch, had a Breitling Aerospace zzzzz. I wanted to be different and I was offered a great deal from Bermont on a watch that included the aircraft I flew in the RAF as part of the design. Lastly, and you touched on this, I felt very proud to be able to buy a high quality watch from a British producer. When I wear it, it makes me feel special and that’s enough for me.

Every one going on about an “In house movements” is a relatively new thing, Valjoux, ETA and the others have been making movements for many of our favourite watches. Also, let’s not forget JLC and Zenith who made movements for so many Brand’s including Rolex. Bremont are cool.

I have owned Bremonts for a while now. I love the build, size and story. They were also a lot more reasonable when I started buying them! I have always avoided the events as I am unsure just what a gathering of watch types would be like but maybe I will try one of theirs based on this. At my peak I had 6 - 5 Chrono’s and a Supermarine S501, now it’s 4 including a lovely LE Blue dial Alt1-ZT they did for WOS and the Griffin. Basically they are bomb proof and yes, I’m ex RAF officer and they just resonate. I have avoided the expensive LE and stuck to used as they do depreciate a lot…

The moment I walked passed Bremont watches; dream was to have one on my wrist. I knew little about the movement and did wonder to why should I pay a price greater than a Rolex OP would cost for ALT1-C, but I could not walk away and bought it. Every time I turn my wrist to see the time, it's beautiful. In my opinion, Watches are not an investment, buy it cause you love it for whatever those factors might be. This video is good example of how our views can change but most of all, understanding that either you can wear a piece only because it is highly rated by others or follow your heart (and of course sense) with guidance from experts. Good video, thanks

I just recently went to their latest factory - The Wing - and it’s amazing. It would be great to get a new updated video on Bremont; they might even invite you to their new facility. The brothers are inspiring and the company is making so many strides forward. I personally think they are important to the watch industry and certainly the British watch making industry! I see them being huge in 100 years when they have the experience of the other big brands. As you say they’re on their journey, where a lot of watch brands have reached theirs.

After a lot of consideration I purchased a S2000 in red a few months back. Paid £2,700 in a sale instead of the hefty £4,150 rrp. Have to admit the quality is exceptional, comfortable to wear with rubber strap and looks great on the wrist being a larger 45mm case. Finish and detail is great. Would definitely recommend. Whilst Rolex, panerai, IWC and bretling are my favourites within my collection the bremont is a fine addition for the money it cost me.

@@RandallSlick . It’s not just about the movement. It tells the time exactly as my and anyone’s other watches. I am not a watch snob. I buy a watch for the look and the ascetics. I was so pleasantly surprised at the build quality of the Bremont and it’s equal to my other watches. In fact I would wear this over a Rolex most days. Would I have paid full price, absolutely not I would have bought another Panerai, but then again some people hate them too. It’s individual preference with everything and whilst I do agree some watches with 3rd party movements are way over priced let’s be honest even with in house these are ridiculously overpriced as well.

The watch community, by which I mean ‘enthusiasts’ and ‘reviewers’ appear to me to be gatekeepers who just want to hate on anyone who’s attempting to enter what they see to be their space. (And let’s not forget the all important clicks) Starting a new luxury product requires enormous financial outlay, and so they have to attempt to create their product and sell it at a high price point from the beginning. Not only do they have to do this to cover their costs, but they have to create the brand that they want to be from day 1. They do this only to be lambasted by gatekeepers who just need to hate on something new which doesn’t have the heritage of something like Rolex or Omega. It happens in all industries, not just watches. But it’s a shame that they have not only the struggle of creating a new brand, but the constant uphill struggle against these gatekeepers. A company should be judged on its product, not by its age.

Only just came across this video, following a link from about effing time, love your explanation for repositioning. Would be interested to know your thoughts four years later, given higher prices, opening of "The Wing", own movement manufacture etc.. I love Bremonts, I have the argument about the movement v the other technology with watch friends quite regularly, and I believe its worth the spend, which is really all that matters. I was in the Mayfair shop not so long ago, and despite looking like a scruffy, sweaty tourist (which I guess I actually was) I was treated to a very nice explanation of everything I looked at, whilst sipping on a free glass of wine, by a very friendly salesperson. Even though I said I wasn't buying on the day, I was still treated perfectly and I will definitely go back for more of the same, but with cash in pocket.

I would have a Bremont in a heartbeat, I don't see them as too expensive (still too much for me though) I would not think of a buying a Rolex, ever, even if I had the money. They are a new brand that are trying to re-invigorate the British watch industry and that can only be a good thing, we have C ward, Monroe, Elliot brown and others all trying to do the same we should celebrate this not find fault with everything British, if they were Swiss, we would be supporting them, Well done, good show, better luck next time, but NO, they are British, so let's kick them when they are down and not praise them when they do well

That was an excellent analysis on Bremont which I thought was fair. However, a couple of years ago when I visited them, they acted most unprofessionally by scorning my choice of an orange-faced Breitling Emergency watch. The arseholes should have asked why I chose it, and then I would have explained how this incredible timepiece saved my life twice, and I would have hoped they apologised, but no. I never bought their chronometer, estimated to be close to 4K. Instead I walked out without a goodbye and bought a Rolex GMT Master II, and been well pleased with it ever since.

That way if it doesn't stick, it will be easy to find it a new home with a small +/- on the purchase price. I'm really hope I like it as I'm finding less and less to love about the hype watches. I've bought and sold 2 Rolex in the past year as they just didn't win my over. Their customer service department were sluggish in detailing with my complaint, and when I supplied them with the watch serial number they refused to confirm that it had previously been registered with them. By way of an apology I was offered a tour of their factory so I could go and choose a replacement watch in person. I gladly accepted and eagerly awaited to be contacted. 15 months later I’m still waiting to be hear from Bremont about this. 🙄🤣 Real classy company to deal with 🤨

Bremont are Superb watches from every angle with a tried and tested movement. Perceived value is objective. As you point out, many more expensive brands use the same as it's pretty much bomb proof. Never a Bremont hater, but they've always been background noise for me. Having flown a few of the aircraft from their "military watch line" they've always been on the radar for organized squadron buys, yet I've always passed on them. That was until I held one in real life this week. Now I'm seriously considering purchasing one of their special programs watches. Honestly. Yes, it will have the same ETA 2893 based movement as my other GMT, it's not "inhouse", and the MSRP pricing is outside the value end. But, with special programs pricing and having held one now, it's a surprising sell that I hadn't expected.

The problem with them is when they started they said they had aviation heritage. Not that they made watches for pilots for years but the two founders used to fly antique planes. It would've been easier if they had just been upfront about being newcomers to the industry who want to make military themed watches. I do like their designs. I can admire a field or tool watch but I think that Bremont's emphasis on military association might polarize potential customers and limit their appeal. I think I could feel a bit of a 'Walt' wearing one. For a company that refers to its British heritage I don't understand why they decided on such a faux Swiss sounding brand name (I've read the back story about it on the website). I think that other recent entrants to the (lower) luxury watch market have been more astute with their marketing and branding and have ranges with a broader appeal and consequently have made more impact.

If you have the money and want to buy one then do. They're not my cup of tea except for the MB range but it's a consumer product & many of us have multiple watches. We can afford something different and Bremont offers that. Most of the Bremont range are in the luxury mid tier category. They're not asking for Patek, AP or Vacheron money. It's a decent product in terms of design and they now have a state of the art manufacturing facility in the UK . I'd probably get an Omega instead but some people want a British made product. They don't pretend to be a venerable old watch manufacturer and they're trading on history but that's the same for most of the watch industry. There are so many revival brands out there which are being marketed by Richemont, Swatch, LVMH etc. Even Lange, amazing as they are, is a revival brand. If you want great watchmaking history buy a JLC. Otherwise there's little shame in buying a Bremont.

I don't agree with having to pay £4000+ for an ETA movement to help fund their future plans to create their own in-house movement. Christopher Ward, like them or not, managed to make a very impressive SH21 in-house movement which could be picked up around £1000 or less.

I totally agree with you. Bremont watches are not cheap and their designs aren't that remarkable compared to other makes in that price range. CW don't hide that the watches are Swiss made in Bienne - Bremont aren't very clear on the origine of their calibers.

I own a Bremont--the U-2/51Jet. I did not know of Bremont before purchasing it. I was shopping for an Oris Big Crown ProPilot and the jeweler showed it to me as an option. He also told me the story of the origin of the company and of the brothers' love of aviation. I decided to purchase both the Oris and the Bremont. After a few weeks of wearing the Oris, I switched the Bremont over to the rubber strap and began wearing it. It has since become my go-to timepiece. It's a comfortable watch for me. It is heavy but not obnoxiously so. A couple of months after buying it, I received the COSC certificate in the mail. I love my Bremont and I don't care what the haters think.

Meh ... So you buy ETA for 4K to get them to where they want to be ... Shareholder without shares. that's a great business model if you can get away with it ... As an American of English/German descent, I wanted a representative watch from each country. I first purchased a Muhle Glaschutte SAR Rescue Timer (ETA), which at my price point was the best representation of German design and mindset I could find. Then, turning to England, there was no better option than the Bremont MBII, also ETA. Mine has the white dial and orange case band, a beautiful bit of English design with a very British story (or marketing, for those of you who don’t like the brand) behind it. A couple years in, they both make me happy, and that’s what counts.

Excellent commentary about Bremont. Way too many folks think that an in-house movement is always superior to an ETA and this is simply not true. There are good in-house and bad in-house movements and not all are created equal. In addition, way to many people judge a watch company without any real knowledge of their operations or their product for that matter. This video is a great example of not to judge a book by its cover. Thank you for making it.

Interesting to see the change in opinion over so many things once you have met Nick, and seen the back of house setup, i was in there at the start and could see Giles and Nick were very different to any other company directors, we sold the first watch the day we launched them in 2007 which coincided with the opening of the biggest watch location in London at the time and the difference was stark and obvious, every other team from every other watch company came in with an entourage and acted like dignitaries, Giles and Nick on the other hand were chatting directly to customers, acting as waiters to get customers drinks, explaining their ideas and products one to one and the passion was obvious, things like offering to sign the warranty and talking about production numbers, of the 35 pieces we had the serial numbers were all in the first 100-200 some lower, that spirit, ethos and commitment has not changed! Good video and glad you can see some reasons for the pricing, and as to the Concorde well when they launched the EP120 in 2009 nobody was doing anything like the authentic use of parts or proper limited edition pieces in the same vein, they were £6495 and we sold around 10% of the total production, they now sell for £14-17k depending on condition! The Concorde might be expensive to you but it’s got kudos beyond the basic elements

If Bremont gets the sizing down to a more wearable 38-41mm and lowers the price point to the $2-3k range, I think they could be a serious player. They’re competing in Rolex/Tudor/Omega territory at their current prices, that just doesn’t make sense. But the $2-3k price bracket is wide open for someone to come along and take over. I do hope they reconsider their pricing. It’s a company I’d like to see succeed.

I like your take on them, Adrian. I had no idea that they use ETA's still (my thoughts were that they were beyond that point by now) But for the price, they look SO plain on the outset. It's a shame really because I admire what they're doing with the military and the RnD. But now they need to show us. These pieces look poorly proportioned, thick and bulky (more along the lines of a microbrand) and for the prices they're asking...it looks like they'll be catering for a very select audience for years to come...
